I’m an INTP, mistyped as an INFP for a while (but always had very little emotional intelligence) and it’s so relieving to hear my own experiences reflected in someone else’s narrative!! Her comment about being a woman that “just didn’t get the memo”: I have never related to something more!! 😭😭😭

So much of this sounds like the experience people with autism have. I've heard so many times that autistic women learn to mask by studying other women. This just further validates my conclusion that the INTP personality type (among others) is a manifestation of autism. I'm a male INTP, and I've been exploring material related to Autistic Spectrum Disorder, and I highly suspect that I'm autistic. There's a lot of overlap between the experiences and the descriptions of both terms.

Don't autistic people love routine? I don't think that's characteristic of into.

I would offer as a Christian INTP, there doesn't seem to be a struggle with faith and Ne. In fact, I think Ne actually helps me understand there are things I don't understand and to be able to be delighted with exploring what the Lord has done. There are some churches that are resistant to deep theology but that is often because those churches practice churchianity not Christianity. Also I think that some of our brethren are diligent to want to keep us all out of the ditches and have seen how sometimes "different" became "against the Word and heretical". Tradition is sometimes valuable. I digress. The point is that we can't out think God, so Ne gets to play and explore.

Trial and error of life. Constantly testing systems to find most efficient, balancing these outcomes in my mind. It can be exhausting. Appreciate this relatable interview.

Being a mom intp has forced me to improve the four top functions. If I weren't a mom, oh dear. Fave part of intp mom is I get to watch two people develope their natures over their life time. I've got an enfp and and istj to watch, analyse, learn from. fun!

15 minutes in I was just like yes, yes, and yes. I completely forgot I had those make up the nerd moments from my youth. People sometimes try it on me today with the whole "you should take off your glasses" The differential between being authentically you and being a pick me is also a new phenomenon in the past couple of years that caused me to seek out the reasons and validity of the stereotypical female experience (with emotions as the priority). It took many personal experience and wisdom for me to realize I "didn't get the memo".

This was really relatable. Until I dived into studying cognitive functions, I was aware of emotions that were clearly Fe type, but my point of view was that there aren't my emotions, that's something external. I saw Fe (and often Si) as black passengers and external influence that is not "my true self", not as rightful inhabitants of the second row of seats in car model.

Fe would be kind of alien to you as an INTP. But, please avoid conflating emotion with the MBTI feeling functions. I have observed thinking type displaying all kinds of emotions. Fe does indeed have a pleasant harmonizing element to it, but Fe is a rational decision-making function and Fe decisions can be made in a very detached, emotionless manner.

I could not relate more to the challenges of being an INTP mom. I quit my job in another very academic setting to become a SAHM for the first 3 years. Now I have a business I run from home so I can prioritize being with my daughters…but it does not come naturally!

Male INTP... Healthy Emotional care is prayer/music/creating poetry. When I get into my feels I tend to be in a Melancholic state. In fact, melancholy is a good place for me. Negative care is escapism. Video games, or fiction books etc... The former things help me connect and grow. The latter generally leads me to feel disconnected and adrift. When I was younger (I'm 42 now) I could play sports, that helped too.

All are due to a very hard, sad childhood, main carers didn’t give enough love, hash environment to grow up (very tender age, even several months) lack of emotional support, been neglected or even abused

Women's brains are different from male brains in all types. In male brains there is a bigger firewall between feelings and thoughts. And females have more emotional receivers throughout the body.

I'm trying to unpack what is meant when Kristen said that she was often the one who was mansplaining. I think of the term "mansplain" meaning to state purported facts with an unearned confidence, even though the other person may objectively have a better perspective on the subject. Although some women are perfectly capable of doing this, I don't think of INTPs as being prone to do this. Can anyone help me understand this?
