You can contact me at mbti2679@gmail.com for any business inquiries, questions, or stories! You may be featured in a video sometime in the future!
Today I discuss what I believe is an important topic for INTPs, and that is our Si child function and why it can hold us back from reaching our potential.
Topics include:
How to solve problems in your life by using Ti and Ne
What Si is exactly
The Ti-Si loop of death that INTPs can struggle with, and why this is a problem
How to get out of this loop as an INTP with specific examples.
Hope this video is helpful. Thanks for watching!

Us INTP's need to realise that being smarter than everyone doesn't mean shit if we don't get anything done. We work hard on our intellect but that generally doesn't give us anything in the real world. No one can see our accomplishments, no one can read our minds. All we do is dream. of ideas, of what we can become. Our lives are like the feeling of waking up from a dream and wanting to go back. We get stuck in those dreams. We are scared of waking up.

You can work your way out of this! We are problem solvers, and once we realize how a problem is impacting us finding the solution is inevitable. It becomes impossible to keep avoiding it like we could before. I went through this for years, and once I found a support group I could get comfortable in, sleep became less attractive. So much good insight in this video - things I have been doing that have worked, and new ideas to try out. You're not alone.

1 thing that may also be helpful to INTPs is to build systems instead plans. Since INTPs are more likely not to follow through on their plans it is intuitive to just do things out of habit. Try it. Start small like forcing yourself to sleep at a certain time everyday. Eat breakfast at a certain time every day and so on...

I'm a single mom and found out the hard way years ago what damage this can do. Luckily I hated being an immature p.o.s. My thoughts as an INTP mom: INTP women...don't have children unless you're ready to put your comfort on the back burner 95% of the time. Kids need a lot of love and time. It's your duty to provide that. Prepare for never sleeping, never being alone, having people constantly invade your personal space and interrupt your thoughts and research, never having organized thoughts, saying goodbye to feelings of accomplishment and dignity, say goodbye to your creativity and any outlet you may have for a while... You will make a terrible and selfish parent of you're not mature and can't get Si under control. Just a fact. If you find yourself with children and are resentful of them it's your fault for not working on yourself. Grow up or your kids will suffer.

I don't know if this is going to be true for everyone but, from what I've found, the biggest cause of the TI-SI loop is habit. As you said, doing the same thing every day does this. Sometimes dramatic change is necessary undo or deal with this, but it could be as simple as only changing your routine slightly. For instance: if you wake up and look at social media or news, change that to later in the day, if at all. I find myself changing habits only slightly can help. For example: waking up and looking at news and social media changes to waking up and making breakfast without doing the usual habit, if only for a time. Also, I find that when I stay on my phone or on the internet to long, i fall into this loop, but putting down the phone for just 5 minutes can clear my head. This loop seems to create a fog that makes it hard to think properly and much of it is linked to me using my phone to much. Also, for someone who cannot see like myself, making eye contact would be difficult to impossible for obvious reasons lol.

I remember in my late teens I came across a study saying whatever social "role" you get in your early years, is the one you'll keep throughout your life. Say, if you're an outcast in school, no matter which situation you find yourself in later, with people youve never met before, you will automatically take the part of the outcast cause that's where you "belong". When I heard about this it made me think about how our "place" is determined by how perception is reflected in a never ending loop and if I were to change how I present myself, the reflection would change and with that my place in social situations... I embraced the doctrine "fake it 'til you make it" and went out into the world as if I was wanted and not socially awkward and after some time, lo and behold, I was no longer an outcast! I'm not talking about adapting who you are to fit the acceptable norm, I'm talking about daring to put yourself out there and go where you for some reason believe you dont fit. Yes, as an INTP I do still prefer to spend most of my time alone, but that said, when in a social environment I'm no longer feeling left out. Actually I kinda feel like people even enjoy having me there. Now I just gotta escape the Ti-Si loop... This pandemic really hasnt been good for getting out of the comfort zone... 😅

I'm in a Ti-Si loop now. Reading the comments I remember how I broke up with one due to my circumstances. I was part of a group in my church and I was part of the leaders, when new young people arrived I thought it was important to welcome them, but nobody did. As a leader I was forced to do it, to smile at them, to ask their name, to shake their hands, it started more from my mind than from my empathy. I felt like an impostor but I endured it because I thought my group was part of something bigger (my function Fe). I think that made me exercise social skills without wanting to, although I know it is not natural, but I remember that I have overcome one of those loop.

This is a great guide for INTPs that are starting to delve more deeply into understanding themselves through the perspective of typology. My own experience is consistent with what you say here, except like any INTP I have to have my own interpretation of my experience with it. Personally, my Ti-Si loop starts when I can't make reliable predictions about the outcome of a goal or aspiration I am pursuing. Because I can't make predictions, I can't anticipate problems, and fall into the thinking that if I just give it some more time, something will eventually come to me and I can avoid a mistake. When in reality what I should be doing is what Da Vinci suggested, "if you want to get better at one thing, get better at something else." I am using that loosely to mean that the answer hasn't come to me yet because I haven't exposed myself to it; i.e. (in the case of any INTP) Go use your Ne, out in the world, take action and you will stumble on an answer. The great part about taking action is that you continue to get things done, while exposing yourself to new patterns and potential answers. Something that reinforces this for me is that Einstein was supposedly walking through a forest when he had the revelation that led to his theory of general relativity.

Great comment. I like to think of myself as preparing for future bad outcomes that I have NO IDEA what are going to be. So I need to strengthen myself for that today. How do I do that? Not sure. But being in good physical shape from exercising is something that can help, maybe being a little more financially secure. However because I know that I cannot predict future chaos, I choose not to worry about it. I used to worry about losing my job, my house being in bad shape, etc. But now I realize that I will just need to adapt when the situation finally comes up. Thanks for watching!

Soo I watched the video, debated with myself for an hour and here I am with what I concluded. I was hesitant about sharing but screw it. My issue was that I kept on trying to get out of my comfort zone, push myself too much and then lose balance because in my head I truly believe that there can be multiple solutions to any given problem. So, I feel that kinda made me think inwardly that spending time ingesting dopmamine from quick sources was the same as going for it long term by putting in work. So I set about today trying to come up with a truly Absolute answer to things- something I can base my beliefs off as an anchor. After debating for quite a while through various jumps in logic which I've forgotten, I managed to see the whole thing from an even more objective perspective than before and this is it. People are everchanging. Like, you cannot at all be absolute in any sense whatsoever, and THAT is Absolute (ironically enough). You're always changing. Even the most miniscule things cause a change, and if you realize that you need to go with the flow of change while being aware that you are indeed changing at every point in time it changes everything. That is, Discipline is an Illusion. And you're not really stuck in a loop of Ti-Si. We are constantly changing and while most of us know this (since we may have at some point realized it already [yes, I'm generalizing INTPs :P ]), we need to be aware of it as well by like, TRULY accepting it- not just saying it in our mind multiple times to convince ourselves that we know. So we're not stuck in a RING of Ti-Si where even after time passes, we find ourselves unchanged. We are instead stuck in a SPRING of Ti-Si, a coil so to speak, and if we do keep on changing and accepting that we are changing, we'll eventually come out of this spring. Ofc how this will change the way I think is something I haven't yet spent enough time formulating, it somehow makes me really excited to think of it. Dunno if it will make sense since we are after all in different journeys, I hope it helps anyways... ^^

INTPs need days to reflect and be comfortable. But I think when we start doing it too much, that can lead to a feeling of dread that is terrible. Things are always changing (as I discuss in my growth mindset video). These changes can be good or bad depending on how we react. Thank you for the insight!

I really like the way these videos address the practical aspects of living as an INTP as opposed to simply throwing out abstract concepts. I'll also suggest that when the poster says "clean the house" he really means to neaten up. I can't imagine he's dusting and vacuuming every day--that's OCD and another personality type. I have tried and succeeded at most of the suggestions made in this video, and those have made me a happier and more well-rounded individual. But at 65, I am the perfect example of an INTP who, based on society's standards, has not been successful--at least not financially, especially compared to others in my field. I am deep in debt from credit cards and this is not from extravagance, by any means. I drive a 22-year-old Camry. I wear rags. No jewelry except for a $20 Casio watch (which are excellent, BTW, and much more accurate than fancy ones). I live not beyond my means, but beyond my ambition. If my life was boring, hum-drum, same-old, I could certainly use Ti/Ne to climb out of that rut. I have tried it to mixed levels of success over the years. But life keeps throwing me curve balls, and these are what derail you and end up sucking up all your energy and focus. If you are in a pit to begin with and are trying to climb out and someone keeps pulling you back in, I don't know how you get out of that.

Also since then I've come to the realization that while these self-improvement videos can shed light on one's personalities shortcomings, we are wired from birth, and trying to fight one's cognitive functions can backfire. Everything's a tradeoff. Si can be holding you back, but with blind Se, how much progress can one really make? @@MrTrashcan1First of all, I hope you’re doing well. I’m only 19 so I might not have the experience to know, but is a “blind” Se really that bad? I know I’ve cursed my seeming general lack of awareness many times even before learning what mbti was, but Ne in tandem with Ti can be a pretty good replacement, can it not? I feel-or more accurately I’m hoping-that maturation of the Si through building effective mental systems for external action is the key to getting what you want out of life as an intp. I’m trying to focus on fulfilling personal relationships with others, as well as using the prospect of actually achieving personal dreams as a motivator to develop myself. At any rate, I’m interested to hear your thoughts as an older intp? I don’t mean to offend but your current circumstances sound exactly how i’ve always feared yet expected my life to end up.
@MrTrashcan1
@MrTrashcan1 10 ай бұрын
@@samtii777 Hi, since originally watching this video when I first got into personality typing, my thinking has changed. I have come to realize that we are born with 4 cognitive functions that are wired in and unchangeable. These functions direct our behavior through inclination. This video starts okay with the idea of Si being comfort, but then just reverts back into stock definitions and accepted mainstream dogma. So first, there are no shadow functions, hence no blind Se. The INTP has no Se. Child Si has to do with the personal physical domain. Ti-Ne focuses on problem solving in the practical world. So that you'll develop systems to keep your life in order--I'll give you my examples: Foot-shaped shoes; shoelace systems; ergonomic aspects to your automobile; back scratchers in every location. You get the idea. Se/Ni are the functions responsible for solving the world's problems and for self improvement. People who put out videos like this a) do not understand how cognitive functions work (they are not analytical and understand the world only as the mainstream status quo) and b) are themselves Se types who cannot conceive of the idea that one could not achieve anything he puts his mind to. But true Si types know that it's not possible--at least not for long--because it means fighting one's cognitive functions--which is a losing battle. You wrote this: "I’m trying to focus on fulfilling personal relationships with others, as well as using the prospect of actually achieving personal dreams as a motivator to develop myself." INTPs will never do either of those things. Personal relationships are not on an INTP's radar--they happen or they don't. INTPs live life one day at a time and struggle just to survive each day. Think of an INTPs life as being pulled by a sled though the woods with branches hitting them in the face. That's what Si is all about. You are likely an INTJ, which is exactly what this video is all about, even though the poster doesn't know it.

Hey there! I just want to say thank you so so much for making this. This was such an eye opening moment for me to have. I’m 17, and for about 2 and a half years, since the start of 2020, I have really been working on creating habits in order to better myself and get out of the Ti-Si loop. I have tried so many different things, and in fact, a huge amount of them worked, but then a shift in my life would occur and I would temporarily abandon them. I recently just finished exams, and going from spending every day obsessively revising, to having nothing to do has really shaken me up, and I haven’t known what to do with myself for about a month now. I typed myself as an INTP when I was 12, but have been unsure ever since, as I grew up and really started to broaden my horizons in life. This time around, I have managed to find so many sources on cognitive functions, and wow, everything makes sense!!! Even more so, it makes sense why others struggle with things that have really helped me- everytime I want to achieve something, I have to create a system of habits in order to achieve it, or else the Si goes wild, and most people that I tell that to just have no clue how or why to go about that. Huh. But yeah, I have been stuck in a massive loop recently, and this has given me a lot of clarity. My least favourite part honestly is how I just completely disregard the Fe, I can’t respond to messages, etc. But I’ll work on it. Thank you so much for the advice about using Ne to get out of the loop. It’s a commmon idea, of course, but you have explained it so much better than any other source I’ve found has. Thank you so much!

I love this channel. I can see you have only just begun, but the information is targeted to INTP success and it is going to change my life. I hope that means something to you. It is everything to me. By the way, a great book that gave me my first slight doubt that I might not be an INFP is The Magic Diamond by Dario Nardi. It's an amazing self-development book that marries MBTI with other typing strategies such as Carl Jung's type method that Isabell Myers Briggs made MBTI from and others. Also, have you found that learning Type has helped you socially because in theory if you know every type you will know exactly how they work and be able to work out how to appeal to them? That's the thing I don't understand, if I'm naturally this great problem solver why do I not fix problems quickly and become successful in life? I used to game all the time but I stopped that and have been focusing on writing craft and money-making strategies but I find it hard to force myself to implement what I learn is that what it is? I can FIND solutions I just don't do them? I think this channel can be more than just a survival guide, we've been just surviving. This can be our success guide. You are doing important work.

Thank you for the kind words. I will definitely check out this book when I have time. I think the first step is realizing you have this God-like problem solving ability and get some confidence in your thinking. I talk about in my videos what holds INTPs back and ways you can start to fix them. It is not an overnight fix it is doing the small things everyday to build up to where you want to be.

After watching many videos on the differences between INFP and INTP I have determined I am actually an INFP that has just learned to structure what I do a bit more than a typical INFP because I was diagnosed with ADD and it made me implement a bit of structure to deal with it and made me think I was an INTP. I would highly recommend anyone reading to be absolutely sure of your type before you go trying to change yourself for the better. Make sure you are doing what your type needs. I wish your channel every success though.

Because, I've used the time to get clear on my purpose and take steps towards it. Here is a great way to find it. It's called the 7 levels deep method. It is a great tool to find your why. You start out by asking yourself "What do you want to do?" Write that down. Then ask yourself "Why is that important to you?" 7 times answering from the previous statement you made. It is genius. 1.What do you want to do? Become a great storyteller and express it through the design and development of successful games. I also want to create a platform for people like me to be able to follow their bliss and make their dreams a reality without the need for ridiculous amounts of money or somebody else's approval. 2. Why is that important to you? For creative expression and to stop other people from having to go through what I go through. I know I can create great games but I need the money to pay people with skills I do not possess to come together to create these games. I dislike the very concept of money because it creates a barrier to entry on people's desires. I don't believe another person has the right to decide what you can and can't do. 3. Why is that important to you? Because expressing my creativity is my passion in life. I like to help other people if I can. I want to leave a legacy of great stories I contributed to the world that may inspire others to express their own creativity as Final Fantasy VII did for me. I want to create something new for the world that wasn't here for me when I needed it. I dislike obstacles that limit the freedom to express oneself. 4. Why is that important to you? Because I only feel free when I am expressing my creativity. Because helping others makes me feel good about myself and helps them feel good about themselves and creates more good in the world. To leave a mark that I was here and did something with my life when I am gone. For someone else to then take what I have done and expand upon it and possibly make it better. Because I believe in the evolution of everything. If I can fill a need that heals a pain point in the world I will do it, because it's only right. Because Freedom is the most important thing to me. 5. Why is that important to you? Because feeling free is everything to me. Because I want everyone in the world to feel good. To be remembered as a positive change in our world. Because I want to heal the world. Because I believe in right actions. Because freedom is everything to me. 6. Why is that important to you? Because feeling free makes me happy. Because I want the world to be happy. Because I believe a change is needed in the world. Because if there are more right actions in the world humanity will heal itself. Because I want humanity to be free. 7. Why is that important to you? Because I like to feel happy. Because if the world is happy there will be no more conflict. Because I want humanity to be happy.

Hm, I don't think I've figured out a way to convince Ti that the Ti-Si loop is bad for me. I think I've only been able to do it by trying very hard to think like an NTJ, and then memorizing (Si) how NTJs would think, and thus, what they would probably do. But you reminded me to always take things slow with Si, because it's so big on comfort. Thanks! -edit: my trying to get out of the Ti-Si loop was probably triggered by Fe, because I wanted to become one of the "cool" kids and actually achieve something. Only then did I start trying very hard to think like an NTJ.

I felt the same when I was in a very suffocating environment, I had no desire to even see my Ti-Si loop as a problem because engaging with it was the happiest situation I could put myself in. I’ve only started to truly desire a change after living a genuinely new life with new people for the first time, engaging my Ne in a way I never have before, and then ending up back in my old life ironically due to ending up back in a loop😅. I like your idea of memorizing how an NTJ would act, a very interesting way of using Si for good. I think there’s honestly not a great way to convince your Ti that the loop is bad for you, given that it’s part of the loop😂. Using your Ne, is really the way to get past the loop, it’s the strongest of our external functions. When it’s been stimulated, and then deprived again, you really very viscerally FEEL this dissatisfaction with the Ti-Si loop, in a way that intps don’t typically really feel otherwise.

If you manage to break your Ti-Si loop with Ne like me, you learn how to use Ti-Si correctly. For me, my pattern is quite chaotic. So what I do is, every day, I switch between having productive times (doing any type of work, socializing with people etc.) vs. having non-productive times (either intellectual or trash pleasure). This feels like a healthy mental schedule to me. Correct me if you think I am wrong. Aaah and he says 13:22 : I don't say go to a country you don't know on your own. Welp. That was what I did exactly to break the Ti-Si loop. I admit, changing it way too drastically shakes your life. In my first 4-5 months here, I was even worse than when I was back home mentally. But sometimes, you feel that you need the big change in your life.

I don't believe we can't change. At least I don't believe that something like personality is set in stone, it's fluid. We INTPs don't like things set in stone anyway, that's why we hate schedule. We are more than capable of achieving things. It's not about society told us you can be anything, but more like having a growth mindset that we have room for growth in any areas we desire. But the thing is, something like change can only be done by getting out of your comfort zones, to get new reference points for our database. Which can be hard for us, since we tend to like simulating everything in our mind than to implement it in reality. But we can make a system that only work for us that encourage our growth.

I rarely comment underneath videos on KZbin, but this time i have to! First of all excuse me for my ( probably) wrong English, it isn’t my native language. I really relate to this video, I recently ( 1 month more or less) discovered all of this mbti stuff and I totally relate to the Intp personality type, I started reading and watching KZbin videos almost everyday because I felt so understood. You said very true things in your video but I wanna ask you one thing, what would you suggest to me if I tell you that I won’t apply all the tips in this video to improve my life because I’m not interested in living this life ? I truly feel like it’s pointless living this life. I don’t wanna talk about the “sense of life” because the only sense of life is its non-sense, I would rather talk about all the concrete things every human experience in our life. What's the point of living if once we die we will be forgotten?? What’s the point of suffering to improve ourselves? Why Should I spend all my life looking for happiness ? I could list much more stuff supporting my theory. As you could understand, for me living life is pointless, I didn’t want to born and honestly I would die right now if it was for me, but I don’t wanna bring pain to the people that loves me. ( not saying this in a dramatic mood, it’s just what I honestly think) The question is: what would you suggest to me to start enjoy this crazy bullshit we call life? Because if I lack of interest and motivation and I don’t wanna live, how could I even try? I simply don’t want to. I don’t have the energy or the motivation. I think I suffer from depression or I’m in an existential crisis since I was born... ( note that I am 20yrs and I had a difficult childhood, tbh all my life till now was difficult 😅) I started some psychotherapy sessions but I had to stop them because they were too expensive, I felt a bit better for a while and I also started meditating ( nichiren Buddhism) but now I fell again inside this black hole. Hope you could answer me, sorry for the poem I really needed to say all of this stuff to someone who would understand me better than the majority of people. Thanks dear ❤️

Honestly the best thing that I´ve done to stop feeling miserable is find a job and stick to it even if I kind of hate it. Forcing myself to go everyday and going through the day, week, month, year, makes me feel like I´m achieving something. This sense of achievement also kind of feeds my creativity so I started painting and now I do yoga which also helps. I hope you can find something that can help you.

@@stelleldir I worked the whole summer as bartender, i tought that being employed would give a me a sprint or a boost but nah, nothing. Don’t really know what to do, maybe I’ll see a different therapist and see if there is any kind of chemical imbalance, that’s the only thing that could give any sense to my condition.

@@kristeyaion1866 Well tbh bartender might be too stressful. I'm a chef and sometimes it feels like too much but also kind of helps. Therapy also helped when I was in my early twenties but you not all therapists will be the right fit. If you ever need someone to talk to, I'm here.

Do INTPs play sports? I used to enjoy watching wrestlin, even tried to do boxing with my friends. I also had another friend who liked this. Are we both INTPs? I'm asking these cuz ENxJs love these. I like helping others but that friend thought it's stupid to help others for free. She didn't play with me and my ENTP friend but she said she liked watching wrestlings and such sports and sometimes even tried at home.

Don't jump until you are ready. But you can start small and slowly bring yourself out. Good luck!

I like your overall message. But... getting out and socializing doesn't at all equate to reaching your potential. I've traveled to different continents alone, I talk to strangers easily, I spent the last several years going out dancing most nights, I have good eye contact, I've been working out for years. I don't consider any of it to have increased my potential.
