I only have one tip. DO EXERCISE . It's not that hard and once you do it, the rest of the things that require your discipline will seem way easier. Even my mood is remarkably better during periods when I train compared to "sedentary" periods.

INTP here. I struggled constantly in school despite my intellect, for the same reasons Chase describes above. When I was finally forced to figure out how to get through my engineering degree because of impending fatherhood, two things came out of the wash. Firstly, I conditioned myself to develop an addiction to crushing exams. When I received 117% on a test in component design with the average being a 65%, it was an unbelievable high. Secondly, because I was the best in my graduating class with the math and the concepts, people learned to rely on me as a source of knowledge. I would do my homework by helping other people with their assignments, and then just writing down the answers once I'd helped ten people with theirs. If I was alone, you wouldn't catch me doing anything other than Sudoku or reading.

That is SO true. For exams during my bachelor degree in Mathematics, I couldn't study in my room. I just COULDN'T bring myself to it. Always delayed and ended up playing video games. Had to force myself to the university library which was 1 hour away, go there without anything other than study material + pen and paper and sat there then for a few hours. Which actually worked, I managed to study without problems for a few hours as I had to rationalize wasting 2 hours travel trip lol

I think the distinction between "study" and "produce" becomes important when it comes to music for an INTP. Wordless music can help create flow for the purposes of enabling ideas to get from the mind onto the word doc, not so much for memorization.

@@tink6225 The random thoughts could be a byproduct of the overstimulation that comes with dopamine. I have the same issue, which is why meditation or time alone in the woods, etc. might be more useful for INTP's (especially today when we have smartphones and therefore constant access to cheap dopamine) otherwise we'll never study properly and thus fail to get anything of real substance achieved.

Embrace the anxiety of failure as motivation. Don’t postpone things you can do right away. If asked by a teacher/ parent/ supervisor to do something, start it within 30 seconds. If you’re already busy, start it as soon as you can. Save relaxation for when you’ve finished.

1. very good explanation. especially the part about school and university, why the motivation was missing 2. music can be partly helpful when it's not about memorizing. when i studied for my university math exams very intensively, i listened to intense technoid or psychedelic music on the side and that pushed me a lot 3. albert einstein did not fail math, the swiss grading system is reversed, hence the error on the internet 4. thats why a good solution could be with some life experience to become a freelancer, so you have to move your ass for your own sake day by day

I've found that structure is one of the best things for my study (sucks, but you gotta do it). I wake up at 4am (my brain is foggy at night; clearer in the morning), go to my study, and then work in increments. 52 minutes work, 17 minutes rest. Yes it's weird that they aren't even numbers, but I've found it to be best personally. Anyway, two small tips: Leave your phone in another room and keep the notifications off. Don't study in your bedroom. That's most associated with sleep and relaxation, so if you study there (guess what?), you'll start feeling sleepy and relaxed. - INTP (I think) student with 6 classes per 8-week term

Agree with this. The best way I've been able to study is to wake up early (or really late at night), grab a coffee, and isolate in some area with chair and table. Campus living made this a lot easier since I could just leave everything and walk out to a study area. Music is iffy. Mostly use it to block out other sounds.

so much truth. i remember not knowing how to read when i was almost 8 years old, and my aunt was tired of trying to teach me and must have been suspecting that i already knew how to, to some degree. so she shut me in an empty room with a book about chimpanzees and said not to come out until i could read her the whole thing. i was out in about 45 minutes and havent struggled with reading ever since.

I totally agree with this. I just finished my degree, and I was always at my best when I ran out of distractions (like cleaning or meal prep, all less difficult things). Suddenly, when I was tired and uncomfortable in my computer chair everything would just click and I would knock out my assignments. It always came to outlasting my own distractions. As Chase said, since I was pursuing something that I wanted for my career, that was motivation to succeed as well.

I realized It's literally destroying my life and my overall health. I'm on the internet all day watching something instead of paying attention to my friends and my family and texting them back, or getting enough sleep. Yeah this confirms my experiment I did a month or so ago where I was just so fatigued, sleeping 14ish hours a day, couldn't even read one paragrapg of my maths textbook. Decided to take a week off from studying, not even thinking about it. By day 2, especially 3 I was almost begging to get back to study. Held off for the week though then I was way more efficient. The dopamine thing is interesting too, I know if I don't start studying as soon as I turn on the PC it's not likely I will do it. Maybe towards the end of the day when I haven nothing else to do and get a second burst of energy. As a newly discovered INTP though I am pleased to hear there was actually a reason I did not agree with school where I know I am capable in other areas, and that if I can get self-discipline down there's almost no roof to stop me. Really motivating actually.

You are absolutely correct in pointing out that Si child ruins our potential especially academic potential. And the only way to grow is to isolate or discharge from all distractions and just focus. But tbf forcing people, or let alone forcing children this way would create pressure that may create a mental imbalance in the child. I'm not saying it's bound to, but forcing and then the intp resenting the force would bring Fi demon out. Maybe co-operative methods by engaging with their Fe could work.

That may be true for some, yet not all. One of my great loves is studying. If I don't study something daily, I don't feel like I've had a complete day. I'm a really strong INTP and have lived with it for 81 years. I would say that I you interest an INTP in studying something to prove a point, it's hard to get them to stop studying. Although, if it is necessary to study something they are not interested in, I agree with you it is VERY difficult to maintain any kind of interest in studying at all. So, IMHO as an INTP, the best way to study as an INTP is to create a challenge rather than use force whether that is an inner or outer force.

I do think I thrive best when in a structure that hits the sweet spot between rigid and flexible. On an unrelated note, I loved studying the woke stuff (sorry csjoseph lol) I felt it set my soul on fire? I felt my Ti hero couple with my Ne and just go nuts with it. I have always intuitively felt that I need to remove all sources of distraction and be in dead silence in order to work. And I might be able to do that if I just have a book and piece of paper. But how can I do that when learning to code? Computers have a gui with programs, and tabs, and things you need to click on, and things you need to look up. And you basically cant be a programmer unless you do all these things. Unless I can get myself to just sit there staring at my text editor. But I feel like it’s inevitable that I will need to leave my text editor. And I might have some excuse like “oh i need to look up this thing in order to build my program”… so lets leave my text editor and open google chrome. And then I spiral into distraction.

My way of doing things was to be a total not social nerd (that I was anyway), sit in the front row in the face of the teacher and understand everything in class. Then for things not covered in class I would logic my way out of things, as in challenge the whatever was written in the textbook without having seen it. I grew up in a poor home, we were 3-4 people in the same room always, so no privacy, no silence. I also loathed the kids that memorised stuff, I kind of called them stupid lol. It just felt so wrong (the memorising). Later in life indeed I have seen that my main blocker in getting results is the constant shiny object syndrome, I literally depend on absorbing information so much that it is a jumping all around exercise. Never played video games, rarely watch movies or other classic dopamine fixers, mine is trickier 😅

Man, for me, I have to see a practical application of a concept, even if that is limited in scope compared to the full capabilities of the concept. Then once I have that seed then I can begin to expand into the more theoretical and dynamic uses of the concept. If I try to begin with the un-established concept too much information gets swept aside as background noise. Much like water vapor needs a nucleation point to begin condensation. For me to begin absorbing information I need a nucleation point for the information to begin adhering.
@Hawkido
@Hawkido 2 жыл бұрын
Seeing a practical application makes my mind go "Hey! It's a tool, I can use this!" then once I learn how to use it for that purpose, even if it is a purpose I would never use it for it still goes in the junk box that is my brain. Then my brain will go "How else can I use this, that others might not have thought of as a use for this concept." It will probably become part of a Rube Goldberg solution to a simple problem. Just because I hate to solve a problem that someone else has already solved in the exact same way.

This too. When I know what practical purpose something has and the potential for knowing that opens up, I naturally get very excited to learn about the thing. But folks rarely tell you why knowing something is important, just that it is. This has been the biggest problem for me growing up.

@@TheSkaterjoe123 Tbh to me studying efficiently is all about finding your own way to do things, pl can teach u online, but the best method is one that u can come up with yourself, the methods they teach online is super generalise, the praticality is more for the isfj, you should come up with something that you yourself can stick up with and not slack off.

@@pleboslavski1566 thanks for the advise, I believe I have my own method of studying, it’s sort of chaotic and very flexible, but I still manage to get things done in a timely manner and manage to understand the concepts I am learning pretty well… i guess it’s more just my desire to learn new things and look for more efficient ways to do things that lead me to trying to experiment with different study methods. Perhaps I should just stick to what works already, and aim to improve that system haha. To me, nothing is really perfect, there are always things you can do to improve a system 👏🏽

I’m an INTP struggling in college- even considering dropping out over my inability to do the work. Would our type benefit from adderall to help us get tasks done? I’ve been diagnosed with ADD inattentive and used to take it, kinda helped but I didn’t love all the side effects

or should we just develop the discipline from within, or both
@CSJoseph

I maintain there is an overlap between diagnosing criteria and type that biases against types that are rare. Despite that, I can't assert that it doesn't exist and do have to defer to medical professionals when it comes to the treatment aspect.

@@CSJoseph fair response. I don’t doubt that rarer types are more likely to be diagnosed with disorders.

Use your face in the thumbnails, don’t bother making these thumbnails with random people in it. You don’t even have to make thumbnails at all. People watch your content for your personality and charisma probably even more than for the content itself. Utilise that, stop trying to look professional, it’s doing more harm than good.

if masculine men and feminine women are supposed to be okay then surely so is the opposite. not everybody is the same. really bothers me as somebody born transgender people cant realize that some people arent gonan fit in your little boxes, some people, because people thought i was supposed to be a masculine male person and trying to force that ruined my entire life

What's the percentage of a person being born as transgender? When people talk about masculine and feminine usually they're talking in generalization.
@CSJoseph
@CSJoseph 2 жыл бұрын
In that scenario, it depends on what a person chooses. With relationhips like that I've coached, someone winds up adopting a more masculine role and someone winds up adopting a more feminine role.

Now that I'm almost halfway through this video. Your answer is the same as my conclusion of what I just get done. Removing myself of all the dopamine filled activities around me for some time. At home I get caught up in games and stuff that limit me from focusing on my studies. Usually at work where I can't use my phone, I'm the most productive person there. I know what I must do but the pull is strong

i want to be offended by the addictive and dopamine points…. hmm. well most of my information knowledge comes from audio/visual media or at min audio. i can retain info and learn language for example this way. I could physiologically feel like i couldn’t breathe when you suggested putting in a room with nothing else in a force attempt to get the intp to study…. that’s torture. If your child is intp he’s probably going to be best suited to do something outside the box, school is made for ‘sj’s

Yes. While it might come less naturally to INTJs, they’re still really capable. Think of logicians/mathematicians such as Alfred Tarski, David Hilbert, etc. All INTJs.

For future Lawyers they have the so-called BAR examination for the purpose that I don't actually know I don't know how Education System works there in America so... it might be complicated
