My mom had aneurysm which broke and cause a huge hematoma between her brain and skull. She was barely saved by two doctors which came from their vacation to perform two surgeries on her. They are the only reason she is alive and I am forever thankful to them.

one important difference between epidural and subdural haemorrhage is that, for epidural haemorrhage, patients usually manifest short period of loss of consciousness, and then the patient will wake up for a brief moment before passing out again. This is because epidural haemorrhage is an arterial haemorrhage as the video suggested, the initial haemorrhage was rapid, but shortly after the brain will adjust but then lossing too much blood will bring unconsciousness again.

Just to clarify: EXTRADURAL/EPIDURAL causes LUCID INTERVAL. NOT Subdural
@blackout39853 жыл бұрын
subdural can have lucid interval as well
@zekoreko27507 жыл бұрын
a lucid interval is a temporary improvement in a patient's condition after a traumatic brain injury, after which the condition deteriorates. A lucid interval is especially indicative of an epidural hematoma.
@veronicaal943 жыл бұрын
Lucid intervals are ONLY found in epidural or extradural bleeds. Never subdural. Also, while it's correct that epidural bleeds are caused by trauma and skull fractures that injure the middle cerebral artery, subdural bleeds do NOT have the same causes. Subdural bleeds are chronic bleeds that occur in the bridging veins over periods of hours or days, even weeks; usually in elderly and often in alcoholics, presentig with progressively worsening confusion.
@Thesakeable2 жыл бұрын
Subdural bleeding can definitely be acute as well due to trauma, it's not always a chronic process!

My niece recently died of a brain hemorrhage. Her mom and I were with her. She said she was getting a headache just before we were getting in the car for about an hour ride. She took an advil, walked to the car and got in. About 5 minutes down the road, she said the headache had gotten worse. But she leaned back in her seat, closed her eyes and tried to get comfortable. Next time I looked back she was snoring. I thought nothing of it, she was 30 years old and had a headache. When we got to where we were going, we couldn't wake her up. We patted her cheeks, and her hand would brush her face and rub her cheek. The EMTs arrived and her vitals were fine and her eyes reacted they said. They loaded her up and took her to the hospital, which was only about a 3 to 5 minute trip. We followed, still not really alarmed yet, thinking this was some kind of seizure or episode. Once there they did a cat scan and nearly immediately told us she was critical with a brain hemorrhage. They called a neurosurgeon in, but it took about 2 or 3 hours. By that time, they told us surgery was unlikely to be successful. Her brain had been pushed across the mid line, and she'd shortly be declared brain dead. They said it was a bridging vein tear, but found no evidence of trauma. We haven't gotten the autopsy back yet, but we've lived every day of the last month wondering if we missed the signs, other then headache, and if we could have done things differently. We feel so bad having been in the car with her, knowing later she was in distress, and us just thinking she was napping. What 30 year old dies from a headache??? We had plenty of doctors tell us there was nothing we could have done, even as soon as we got in the car. But that feeling will never ever go away for my sister and I. Never.

Both Epidural and Subdural are characterised by a lucid interval. The lucid interval for Subdural will be longer because the haemorrhage is from a venous source (lower pressure).

It is also possible for multiple haemorrhages to occur both outside and within the brain tissue in cases of severe head trauma and it’s also one of the main factors behind the deaths of victims who have suffered one punch attacks as multiple haemorrhages occurring simultaneously will mostly result in critical neurological damage or complete brain death. The brain crashing into the skull as a result of severe head trauma can not only cause brushing but can also result in haemorrhages occurring within the brain tissue near the point of impact with the skull internally.

@purpleowl20758 ай бұрын
Another haemorrhage that causes intraventricular haemorrhages (IVH) is a germinal matrix haemorrhage, which if then the bleeding extends into the ventricles becomes an intraventricular haemorrhage. This happening is known collectively as a germinal matrix-intraventricular haemorrhage (GM-IVH).

I hate having stress and its being around toxic people in Northern VA and this area stresses me out and I need to be some place else. I really hope I die soon from a brain stroke very soon. Why are medical english terms so different from common english language ? You get many mute letters, it sounds latin/greek without any adaptation to modern language and sounds very precious I'm genuinely interested
@MissEviscerator6 жыл бұрын
Tranks Danlghetto maybe I don't understand you're question but it sounds Latin and Greek because it is. Most of it hasn't been 'adapted to modern language', though there are certain phrases where medical terminology is used less frequently. Using Latin and Greek makes it much easier to understand pathology, as the clue will be in the name and it isn't as long winded. Just like how there I said 'pathology' rather than 'the study of disease'. You can also apply these translations to many words. Anaemia = without blood, but if you know 'an' is 'without' and 'aemia' is 'blood' you will know these references regarding other things in a nice condensed word. Hypovolaemia, bacteriaemia or anorexia, anoxia. Additionally, these words are largely preserved across many European languages which makes things a little easier.

What is the supply of the blood for intracerebral haemorrhage? Is it also the cerebral arteries? If so how does that mean the difference between a subarachnoid and intracerebral haemorrhage is simply the location of the rupture and not the source of blood?
@2timebrainsurgsurvivorrare116 жыл бұрын
There’s also ventricular hemorrhage thaat doesn’t have to be secondary. There’s patients with hydrocephalus and pseudo tumor cerebri (like me) who have VP shunts that can cause random bleeding or shift and cause bleeding. Or ones that have a tumor and it compresses the ventricle and bleeding can occur. Not all cases are put in articles or studies or journals etc. I have had 7 LP shunts now a VP Shunt and also Chiari Decompression surgery and Spinal Cord Decompression.
