I enjoyed your responses to the prompts for this tag. I had a good time with this tag too. I was interested to see your inclusion of The Story of Art Without Men. I had read and reviewed that one back in the first round of the Book Tube Prize judging this year. My reaction to the book was similar to yours.

Pat, I am so very pleased that you had the same reaction to "The Story of Art without Men" because it's had enormous uncritical positive publicity. The subject matter - looking seriously at women artists is obviously a good thing so everyone was busy praising it - but the standard of writing is woeful. The subject has been much much better written about quietly- for decades - just without the same publicity. I cherish my copy of Nancy G Heller's "Women Artists: an illustrated history" - (3rd edition 1987)

@@heathergregg9975 Absolutely. This was my reaction to it as well. I put it in 5th place out of the six books I read in my judging of the Octofinals Round of the BookTube judging. I don't think I can link it in your comments, but you might enjoy seeing my video. I get into The Story of Art about 3 minutes into my video. I am not well read in art history, and I know you are, but it just seemed obvious to me that in trying to rectify a problem, Hessel commits the same offense in reverse.

@@BookChatWithPat8668 very logical reasoning on your part.

@@BookChatWithPat8668 Pat, I rushed over to view your video review and thought you were very fair. The publishers have produced a beautiful book and marketed it very smartly.

@@heathergregg9975 It is a beautiful book. I didn't think the writing was exceptional, but it's a beautiful book to look at. I just had a problem with the entire premise. I tried very hard with each of these books to be fair. I'm not sure that I have the constitution for judging for prizes! I found the whole process--and I did two rounds--to be really difficult.
