After completing what is written on the official Microsoft tutorial, you get a site with great functionality. The Microsoft tutorial initially tries to discipline the developer to use intelligently object-oriented programming, interfaces, Linq, EF, lambda expressions. These technologies are actively used in medium and large projects. If you master them, you can program more efficiently. If you try to understand the code from the tutorial and write explanatory comments, you will greatly increase your understanding of not only ASP.net Razor, but also the previously listed technologies. Therefore, I disagree with you that the Microsoft tutorial is worse than the video from Tim. It is more capacious and informative, but Tim's video is more suitable for understanding the overall logic of Asp.net Razor, but for a deeper study, I recommend following this tutorial: docs.microsoft.com/en-us/aspnet/core/data/ef-rp/intro?view=aspnetcore-3.1&tabs=visual-studio Of course, you will spend more time and in some places it can be difficult to understand what is happening, but it's worth it.

After checking the documentation and trying to check up some written tutorials through google, I found this video, which is way more clear and concise than anything else out there. Direct to the point, well structured, and explains the WHY behind each line of code instead of "Just copy and paste this here and magic happens". Thank you.

I started programming about 7 months ago and settled on C#, and ASP.NET Core is something I've been trying to get my head around for a while. Normally, Microsoft have great tutorials and docs but on there while you could follow along and build a website, I didn't really get why things worked the way they did, having only really built console apps up until now. I stumbled across this video and now a lot of things have clicked and I feel like I'm becoming more productive again! Thanks - Subscribed!

Thank you for another excellent video Mr. Corey! I used to LOVE Bootstrap, used it for years, until CSS Grid came along and showed me how clunky and restrictive having to add all of those extra classes and nested containers can be. Separating design, layout AND HTML structure from the backend code and business logic without concern of even the display order of items is an evolutionary quantum leap and it will be very interesting to see how Grid matures and becomes more widely adapted in web and general software development.
@IAmTimCorey4 жыл бұрын
That is a nice tool, although it only covers a small portion of what Bootstrap covers, so I don't see it replacing Bootstrap at any point. Bootstrap may adopt some of the ideas, though.

Tim... When I create a new razor page (like AddAddress), the Razor Page Scaffold Item id is just RazorPageScaffolder. But your example at 34:55 comes from WebTools.Scaffolding.Core. My page that was generated is missing elements that yours contains. What's the difference in the two generation templates? Do I need the template you're using? Great Video, you can get up fast with your methodology. I got a chuckle when you talked about Web Forms. You are right about the comparison. I made a living and a company off of them. Still support plenty, which is reason I am now getting up to speed on Razor. I had so much work in web forms. Oh and they did have web forms in asp.net 1.0 that was initial release, but C# was a new programming language and most developers started off with VB.net because they migrated from VB6

Hey Tim, I really like your show. You seem like you are open to feedback and I really think your great show could be better if you stay on topic. This video is a perfect example..You said you wanted to talk about Razor pages, but you instead talked about Bootstrap, Kestrel, and (OK, I have only made it 15 mins in). These are great additional topics for other videos. Please save them for that.
@IAmTimCorey5 жыл бұрын
I try to explain that at the beginning - I am on topic. Trying to learn one specific item in a vacuum is not a good way to learn. It does not prepare you for the real world. You need to know how it fits into the overall ecosystem. Razor pages use Bootstrap. Not discussing Bootstrap at all, how it is configured, how to upgrade it (and why not to), etc. would mean that you would have a gap in your knowledge when you tried to put your understanding of Razor pages into use. The same with Kestrel. Knowing why it is there and how to use it will make you better at understanding Razor pages. This channel is all about the real world. There are tons of sites out there that will give you the five minute video on a topic. That's not what I do.
