Intro to Bitcoin - Part 2 - The Future: Investing & Altcoins

What is the future of cryptos? Should you invest? Why are there different kinds of coins? This is a follow-up video to Part 1, which describes the historical context of Bitcoin as the first major example of triple-entry accounting. In this Part 2, I'll describe the differences between different kinds of cryptocurrencies, or altcoins.
We can look at the beginning of the Internet in the 1990's as an analogy for what may be happening with cryptocurrencies now.

Nice video! Nano will really be the future, calling the transaction speed "fast" is an understatement. It's instant! Every transaction has it's own block, and are fully confirmed in less than a second. It won't be long before people start realizing how Nano is decentralized currency that can be used in daily life and can replace money.

@@babaloo3055 Because Nano has all the metrics - except adoption yet - better than Bitcoin: transactions are fee-less, friction-less and instant. And it has a bonus: the whole network can be powered by a single wind turbine. Bitcoin is trying to do that on Layer 2 because by design, Bitcoin can’t do that on Layer 1. Nano already does it all on Layer 1. It is not yet battery tested like Bitcoin but the upcoming years will make Nano more mature. And I can easily put $4 for 1 Nano than $40000 for 1 Bitcoin anyday. Moreover, at these prices, the better opportunity for higher ROI is on Nano, not Bitcoin.

I can see both sides. It's definitely less risky to invest in the top coins. But Nano could have good ROI, especially once it catches on. But that might not be until the next bull run in 2024/25. A good strategy could be to diversify: have some BTC, some ETH, some NANO. In the video, my main point was that I *hope* Nano becomes popular. Not just because I have a bag of Nano, but because it's the right answer, the right way to do person-to-person payments and payments in grocery store.

I've never heard of CSC. But it doesn't look like a good investment now. It has its peak in December 2017, up to 52+ cents. Now it's only worth $0.00345. For some coins, you can run a "master node" by running a server 24/7 that helps support the network of that coin. And for some coins, if you agree to lock up a certain number of coins, you'll be rewarded with a certain amount of interest. That's sort of what "staking" is.

For most people, using custodial institutions like Coinbase, Paypal, or Robinhood will suffice. However, if you want to be a true "crypto-libertarian-whatever," then a hardware wallet might make sense - then you can "be your own bank." Of course, it's possible to completely lose all your money if you lose the private key. But that's the most secure way to keep your crypto. If you want to do that, I'd recommend the standard hardware wallets: Trezor or Ledger.

Personally, I don't hold much crypto, so I just use a smartphone wallet. My recommendations are Breez for Bitcoin/BTC, Electron Cash for Bitcoin Cash/BCH, and Monerujo for Monero/XMR.

Nothing. Being used as money is the only purpose of Bitcoin. A medium of exchange doesn't need to have other uses, all it needs is wide acceptance. Other properties of what economists call "money" include scarcity and fungibility. Bitcoin satisfies all of these properties, but fiat currency like the US dollar is not scarce.
