Madden is not great for strategy. Certain plays like screen or some run plays work everytime. Try 2k5 or 6. More tactical

@@DrRoidberg - I have added this video and others to a playlist I created to help players improve at Madden. I love 2k5 and APF2k8, but those games are less tactical than a game like Madden 25. the 2k games, for example don't represent the zone run at all, and do a terrible job with targeting defensive players in power run plays. The FB and pulling guards will just run by linebackers and aim for a safety, or worse go block the goal post. Similarly, the passing game is bland and lacks the most important and common passing concepts of the last 40+ years: Stick, Spacing, Levels, Flood, Texas, Dig, Mills, Sail, Drag, Mesh, Curl Flat, and more. 2k8 has Scissors, Double outs with a post, and a version of Smash along with several garbage plays where two receiving threats are literally within 3 yards of one another when you hit your drop back and should be throwing causing unnecessary congestion and not even creating pick plays. 2k, passing game is broken down into - essentially - money play or garbage. A lot of Madden's problems come down to users who don't understand enough about defensive football to stop "money plays" and that online quick matches use the default all-pro settings. Playing a friend on the couch or starting an online franchise where you can adjust and import custom settings fixes a lot of problems with the madden experience. Setting defensive coverage sliders somewhere between 75-100 has a dramatic improvement and forces you to use real tactics to get guys open. Setting offensive blocking to zero is also important. Pass rushers no longer get locked up playing patty cake for 5+ seconds and giving the QB all day to throw, and in the run game you have to create double teams and use the leverage of your pulling or trapping blockers to decisively hit holes. While dedicated pass rushers can be dominated up front, no longer will run stopping defensive linemen get sucked into a blocking animations while the HB runs by them.

You really cannot forget that it is a rule that you must have 7 bodies "on the line of scrimmage" otherwise the formation is not legal. Your illustrations were a little deceptive there, especially when you first brought up I formation. In I formation, the wide receiver on the same side as the tight end has to be off the line of scrimmage. If he is on the line of scrimmage and the tight end is as well, then the tight end becomes ineligible for recieving a pass. We call this "covering up the end."

That trips formation really called quads because of 4 eligible receivers and you have to have 7 players on the line of scrimmage too. You'll notice that some TE's and WR's are always lined up a step behind the line of scrimmage. This is because any player in the backfield is eligible. If he lined up on the line then TE is ineligible.

One thing I'm struggling with is the names of things. It is hard to remember or understand what is going on without the etymology. Is there a video about what all this stuff means or how the names evolved? For instance, why is it called a "slot" formation etc.?
@yurismir110 жыл бұрын
You can always use Google for things like that. I think the term slot formation probably comes from the fact that there is a receiver in the "slot" between the offensive line and the outside wide receiver. "Trips" probably comes from the word triple, because of the three wide receivers on one side.

Technically, in your empty trips and shotgun trips examples, the inside receiver in the bunch is ineligible. He's "covered up" by the outside receiver in the bunch. Can anyone help an Aussie who doesn't watch NFL, but plays the game? When I see others play NFL, they choose Offensive plays by choosing a formation first, and then a play. Why do people choose certain offensive formations? Do they already know exactly what play they want to choose, or do they choose a formation, then decide on an available play?
@coachanderson27045 жыл бұрын
Yes the next play Call would be called after what happened during that play, and always tying to get a first down or a touchdown. The Play call would be this, called like this: Formation - Play Call or Pass Concept - Lineman Call - Snap Count, Ready Break.....

i dont like your bunched trips formation witht he Te instead of a back... whats the point of a screen if theres no back to run the ball? unless you throwing a bullet to the off reciver.. but thats too predictable (especially because every team in america will contest that with cover 3 and the SS who has hook to curl will ditch their assignment and come down hill blazing along with that outside backer who has the force). the back can block in the TE slot after the snap. your trips is a quad since you got 4 recievers on one side, but since you also have a reciver on the weak side its a empty set. when reading formations WR and TE is the same thing

What about weak formation
@timgraf63202 жыл бұрын
The strong side is the side with the tight end (in a formation with only 1 tight end). If your tight end lines up on the right side of the offensive line, the right side is the strong side and the left side is the weak side. For the defense, the strong safety typically lines up on the strong side and covers the tight end in pass coverage. The free safety is usually a bit faster than the strong safety but not as fast as the cornerbacks, and his job is typically to cover the center of the field. On a deep pass, the free safety can run to either sideline to provide help to the cornerback.

This is wrong on so many levels. Starting with an illegal formation. Looks like the illustration only shows 6 men on the line in the beginning. Then when you show the Bunch set, one of the receivers is covered making him ineligible. Rules are that there MUST be 7 men on the line of scrimmage or the formation is illegal. The first man on the Line of scrimmage with a legal number is an eligible receiver, the next man on the line of scrimmage is an illegal receiver. I hope this helps…
@JordanConley8086 ай бұрын
Your Z needs to be on the line.
@sphtpfhorbrains35923 жыл бұрын
Some of your formations are illegal, e.g. the trips formation. The left tackle is not covered by the WR/split end on the left, aka X.
@buck_sweep11 жыл бұрын
The formations you show are all illegal formations, since there aren't 7 men on the line of scrimmage. Your "trips" formation is actually an unbalanced quads bunch. The times there are 7 men on the line, a receiver is covered up, making him an ineligible receiver which, as I said, makes it an unbalanced formation.
@TheOnDeckCircle11 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you're correct. It's really just intended for a very quick and rough intro to what things would generally look like.
@buck_sweep11 жыл бұрын
I understand. And a lot of it is the terminology other people were taught. The biggest part for me was pointing out that it was technically an unbalanced formation. The concept is all there though.

Little history lesson, the word "soccer" was coined by a british man. Back in the days, there was Rugby Football (yes football, rugby was also called football too) and Soccer (Association - Assoccer) Football. The term soccer is much older than the term football. Americans actually adopted soccer later on, after british. Do you history and stop spouting nonsense. Football was used to differentiate between sports played on horseback and football. Rugby is played by hands, but british people still called it football too.
