Less than two years after NewJeans' record-breaking debut under ADOR, NewJeans' CEO and producer referred to the sister group ILLIT as a "fake NewJeans," bringing other names like BTS along the way. While the parent company, HYBE, is threatening to fire CEO Min Hee Jin, alleging that she has gone rogue and planned a coup d’état.
This could get really messy.

What's the point of having sub-label with everyone debuting same concept and also during their new active years? You don't dee LSF and NJ doing the same concept unlike Illit. I am not sure why international fans have such a different reaction to the situation. Maybe the translation for MHJ conference wasn’t poor and too short (2 min vs like 2 hours). Yes, the mere act of showing text messages and sometimes crying can imply immaturity but if you actually watch the entire conference and closely listen , then you can understand why the public in Korea is siding with MHJ. Also, things get lost in translation. There are nuances in some of the text messages which did not seem to come across in English. It’s not that Korea is being swayed by some emotional conference… Koreans are not any dumber / smarter than people of other countries…if you had watched the 2 hour conference and fully understood the context, you would’ve had a similar reaction.

It’s not the translation. We see this is what a corporation does. They haven’t done anything outside of normal business operations that we see. She however is begging for people to disregard facts and contracts and play on the fact she’s a woman and mistreated. If there is a legal problem then HYBE has to report that to the authorities, start an investigation, let the law run its course. That's not what HYBE did. Whereas NJ was created by Min Heejin and I'll-it by Bang PD. Ador is a separate entity from Belift. Yes they're under Hybe but they're totally different labels. So PD copying her is more problematic. And tbh there's not only hair.. the pictures, the music even up to the voices and visuals of the group looks like NJ. It's not the girls fault it's all those producers fault. Im a Korean living in Korea but I grew up abroad for a while so Im kind of different from average knetizen..? What Ive observed from this whole case is that international fans are much more misinformed/less informed than Knetizens because alot of the press they encountered were released from Hybe's part claiming Mhj tried to do some illegal activities regarding company take over. I see unnecessary hate toward mhj because international fans are mostly kpop GROUP fans who are making this about BTS(or other groups) vs Mhj while Knetizens view this as Hybe vs Mhj. There's a whole difference there. The whole cult thing can sound far fetched but I also see alot of eery evidences that align with each other too well, and these evidences are gathered mostly by Koreans from yeaaars back to now, so international fans haven't been able to read about the 'evidences'. People in Korea also know how much cult influence is prominent everywhere in Korea especially within higher power people. And I also have personal experiences of almost getting lured into a major cult, and yes they use stuffs like yoga, meditation, breathing practice, psychological counseling etc. So before you call Korean people absolutely delusional and unintelligent, I really hope you gain the awareness that there are cultural differences in countries where your perception of something isn't always accurate because you might be oblivious about certain elements that exists in the culture unless you grew up there. And the thing is, cults like this isn't all about religious beliefs especially in Korea. Its a major device to gain control and power because people who are recruited into cult are easily manipulated and exploited. So it can seem very 'mild' almost like a hobby group or something because all they are doing openly/publicly is trying to gain more more members. The bigger the cult, the bigger the power in terms of their financial power and influence. This is why alot of companies, politicians can be involved in a cult even though they're not 'religious' because using cult's influence can be beneficial to gaining their own power and needed assets. So even though I still lie on the middle ground about the allegation of Hybe being the cult or is created by the cult, at this point I wouldn't be surprised if Hybe ended up being something like business partners with the cult for financial investment or whatever. You can continue to call Knetizens delusional and manipulated, but initially they were all against Mhj before the press conference and the whole other news thats coming out. I can see that knetizens can be very polarized and toxic, but alot of them are actually pretty logical about alot of things so for them to be very united in making this allegation toward Hybe, its sort of unusual and Im shocked by it. Im also quite shocked at the fact that Im gearing toward believing the cult allegation. But I can't help but to notice there's some shady things going on but I hope its not true... Korea in general has alot of bazaar things going on and much of their politics has been very much tainted with dirty power. I see so much people villianizing mhj especially regarding her being a 'pedo' but as an artist myself, I see her mostly drawing inspiration from many art pieces but definitely not being a predator against minor. Idk if its just me but it doesn't seem logical or moral to me to treat someone like a criminal when they have not done something illegal or openly criminal. You can even see alot of those inspirations being used in her art works but not in a sexual way. If you call her artworks sexual, then so much of our current artists in any cultures must be potential criminals all sick in the head. I just hope you make the distinction that most Koreans netizens reacting to this case aren't all fans of a kpop group(Im also not a fan of anybody). But ya'll are and Im not blaming you for that. Thanks for sharing. we heard cults are huge in SK and it’s everywhere, from small scale to big ones, we’re keeping an eye how this rolls out. Good point abt limitation of exposure that int’ fans have, after all, not everyone can read korean, That’s why we try to cover from both side and open the discussion so we can all rationally discuss abt this matter. And I also think Mhj isnt completely clean as anyone is flawed especially in these business industries. If all of this is true, it seems almost dangerous for the NJ girls to be involved in this and I wonder if their parents know everything. That pedo allegations came up when she posted in her sns of her art interests and inspirations which included scenes from movie(like lolita) and concept photos/photoshoots of Hollywood actors when they were teenagers. It can just be for the aesthetic(and her artworks that uses those elements aren't even remotely considered sexual compared to so many other sexualization of young kpop idols from years back to now). Also for example, people who like gore or violent movies arent all potential criminals about to be school shooters. I used to have an interest for greek or roman mythologies but does that mean I support the rape/kidsnapping/adultery that happens in the story? No I dont. Also although pedos are everywhere, Korea is still different from western countries with the level of intensity pedophilia happens. Its very unlikely for a woman(in her position) to be pedo and to think she openly expressed that in their own sns is what a dumb criminal would do so why would she post stuffs like that if she knew it was controversial... because she didnt even regard the fact that it could be deemed as pedophilia because thats a crazy speculation. This also goes for literature in general as well. To criminalize and villianize a whole person just because they show interest in certain works of art seems like a very radical mindset to me. I just read up some articles and now understood why MHJ did that in her presscon. If what hybe said was correct then her plan in getting ador is thwarted. So now, she's painting as if she and NJ are being exploited by hybe. Then she could file for a provisional injunction for ador to stop their exclusive contract and that's why she's releasing all this negative news for hybe. It will take a long time for them to win if that's the case. Especially, now that hybe tried contacting their parents and they're not able to. It's 50.50 all over again. If they would decide to separate from hybe now with all this happening, their reputation would plummet down faster than you could blink.

It would definitely be a good idea to stay in HYBE, even if a lot of people say that hybe just thinks about money, 😅 I don't know in what world would a corporation not think about that. If their concern is their identity, then they can copy the old generation groups by proving themselves to be an asset that the company would listen to their every demand. That's why they don't have any voice right now with the issue since hybe is thinking they have a lot of groups more popular than them or if not has more potential right now. They don't have any leverage at the moment. Even if they're big but not bts, blackpink, twice, red velvet big where they're like the image of the company now. However, looking at her two-hour press conference, Bang Si-hyuk, the head of HYBE, wanted a "Billie Eilish-style girl group"(He directly asked Min Hee-jin in "Billie Eilish style".), so he recruited Min Hee-jin, but Min Hee-jin wanted the current New Jeans style, and there was interpersonal friction with Bang Si-hyuk there. That is the incident that led to the current conflict. Bang Si-hyuk did not think that New Jeans would do well, so he recruited Kim Chae-won and Sakura and debuted LE SSERAFIM, a Billie Eilish style. After that, even though her New Jeans was successful and went on the Billboard, he sarcastically asked her through her messenger, asking "Are you having fun?^^"(in Korean "즐거우세요?ㅎ") that her New Jeans was successful. This isn't just about money. I think Bang Si-hyuk is not able to read trends and is stubborn, showing off his pride to his subordinates who are doing a good job. Korean public opinion says it is related to a cult, but I think it is a conspiracy theory.

The idea of Y2K girl group can't be trademarked, so any company can come up with 16-20 year old girls acting cute and tech savvy with popular stylish concepts!!! Let's be realistic here though .... To some degree all girl groups are "copies" of the others, because there are only so many 100% completely original ideas, and once those have been done then new groups end up just doing variations on what we already know. It's the same for boy groups as well. I can't even count how many groups, boys or girls, have use the school uniform in a music video -- and to stay relatively true to life, there are only so many variations on the Korean school uniform that can be used. Does this mean that groups are copying each other, or that they're redesigning what already exists? As for the music itself, there are only 12 notes on a musical scale - while there are many combinations of these notes, it's not absolutely infinite. Which means that no matter how unique you try to be there is still a possibility of sounding like someone else, even more so when you live in a similar geographic area and have access to similar musical backgrounds. And let's not even get into the possible of one group sounding similar to another because they are using the same musical writers or producers. Kpop in and of itself is a much varied genre, but there are still certain sounds that are more prevalent than others. I don't see how it's possible to have a genre go on for 37 years without multiple similarities between groups that fall into same or similar sub-genres within the larger kpop umbrella. I do not know the specifics regarding who has done all the choreography for all the groups, but if HYBE is the parent group and Belift and Ador are sub-companies within the HYBE umbrella, then I can only imagine the same choreographers, set designers, clothing stylists, makeup artists and others are all working with many groups under the HYBE umbrella -- and it would only make sense if some of them appeared similar to each other because they had the same people working on them. Taking all of that into consideration, I don't think MJH has a leg to stand on, especially with the leaked proof of her Project 1945. Furthermore, as another poster said before me, "HYBE has a track record of bringing the receipts" and I doubt this will be any different. I haven't really seen HYBE, or previously BigHit Entertainment, willing to speak up and go to court unless they had the proof in hand. They might issue notices, apologies or updates -- but they rarely get fired up for court unless they have the needed proof to set things straight. I guess we will just have to wait and see where this all goes in the future. However, what I really hate seeing is how other groups have been dragged through the mud and into this mess just for existing. Even other groups who aren't even girl groups. It's has just gotten petty and ridiculous.

Let us all calm down and take a deep breathe. South Korea is full of different Kpop groups that every group is trying to just be known and be on top. One company can have up to 10 or maybe more groups under their wing. That’s why whenever there is a new group that comes into their house becomes the scapegoat like Illit. Bang Si Hyuk, the founder of Hybe is playing dirty by framing MHJ trying to betray Hybe. In fact, he is the one who discriminate Newjeans. He strongly opposed MHJ’s NJ concept in term of selection of members & debut songs (Attention, Ditto). He also once forced MHJ to take Sakura & Chaewon into her first Hybe girl group when MHJ first entered Hybe, but was denied by MHJ. (Sakura & Chaewon didn’t match the vibes MHJ wanted for her girl group project). Bang took this personally and hated MHJ eversince. He never took group photo with NJ members, neither congratulate them despite of their oustanding perfomance worldwide. Considering that Belift Labs and ADOR are both under the HYBE umbrella, I think it's highly likely they are using the same, if not at least from the same companies, costume designers, makeup artists, choreographers, etc -- I would be shocked if there were absolutely NO similarities since people tend to stick with that they're best at -- and that would include those people choosing their outfits, doing their hair, doing their makeup, creating their dances, etc. lol

I am a bigger fan of Gen3 and older groups, so I'm extremely familiar with New Jeans or ILLIT ... but I will say this much: Even if Belift Lab did copy ADOR, legally it would be within their rights to do so since HYBE, the parent company of both, would technically be the owner of the intellectual property of New Jeans. MHJ may call it her "brainchild" and she may want to take credit for everything New Jeans related because she put a lot of work into it -- but, ultimately, HYBE still owns everything about them.

I don't understand how someone can support a company over the actual employees. Yes, Hybe's story is inspirational. However, we all know that NewJeans is Min HeeJin's brain child. Everything from the long hair, the fresh faces, the retro concept, to the multi-national background actors/dancers in the MVs - She thought of that. It's why they hired her and funded her company. Whether or not you like MHJ, you can't deny any of that.

To a degree you are right, but she is still just the CEO of the company and her company, ADOR, is still owned by HYBE. Which means that her "brainchild" is still technically, and officially, owned by ADOR and by default HYBE. She can not claim intellectual property in this case. So, even if she feels protective over what she created, she does not personally own it. Even the company, ADOR, that she is CEO of does not own the intellectual property for New Jeans -- ultimately, HYBE, the company who has given ADOR and New Jeans the money and funding to operate, promote and exist owns the intellectual property of New Jeans. So, while I would *personally* find it a bit distasteful to share or directly copy New Jeans with another group, legally, it would still be within their rights.
