This video teaches you have to create three at home patinas with variations on each. You'll learn how to make a vinegar patina with sawdust, potato chips or pretzel rods. Additionally you'll see how to use an egg to add interest to your metal. Finally I'll teach you how to do a ammonia patina safely at home. Be careful! Please follow safety instructions carefully.

This was really helpful! Thank you so much for making this video. I'm new to metalsmithing and I'm excited to start playing with patinas. The blue tones that came out of the ammonia patina is so pretty!!

This was very helpful. I had taken a class and tried to do on my own with poor results. Watching this, I realize a few things I had done wrong. Thank you.

You should do a video using liver of sulfur for patinas on different metals. That would help me out. I love your portrait of The Girl With The Pearl Earring. 💖

Excellent demo! 👍 That was very interesting. I've just started experimenting with chemical patinas on silver using LOS (liver of sulphur) by itself, LOS with salt, and LOS with salt and ammonia. I got some beautiful, vibrant colors... colors that were reminiscent of the flame painted copper I experimented with a few years ago. There were goldens, pinks, greens, and blue hues. It was so much fun. I really LOVE the etched circle piece you were trying to mimic! ❤ I haven't tried etching yet but your video may be my inspiration. Btw, I read a how-to article about the ammonia patina a few years ago. It was interesting to learn you can draw patterns with a sharpie to mask parts of it, let it patinate, and then clean the sharpie off of the piece to leave you with a new penny shine where the sharpie acted as a mask and patina everywhere else. Maybe you could add that in with your next experiment. It would be great to see it happening in a video as opposed to seeing pictures and reading about it. Anyway, sorry for the lengthy comment but I really loved your video. Thanks for the inspiration! 😊
