Intro to Note FX and the Arpeggiator

When working with MIDI, there’s so many parameters you can adjust on so many different levels to create all kinds of different sounds. It can really open a creative black hole that sucks you in to finding the perfect sound.
If you are looking to alter a simple performance of midi, you can use Note FX inside Studio One.
In this video, we’ll take a look at Presonus’ Arpeggiator to add some movement and variety to a simple chord progression.
An arpeggiator allows the player to automatically step through a sequence of notes based on the player's input.

I'm looking to switch DAWs so have been watching a ton of Studio One vids recently because I think that's what I'll go for. Right at the end you mentioned the 'third party add-on'.. Is this something extra you need to buy to run VSTs? There's not many vids about running 3rd party plugins in SO so just trying to get some info before I open the wallet..

Not anymore! With S1v5 Artist or higher, 3rd party plugins and VST's have full support.

Hey! Cool video, but is there a way to turn the Arpeggiator on and off through the song without having to render the track? I want the arpeggiator to kick in just in some parts of the song. I didnt find a way to bypass it in automation, so it looks like you either have to have it off or on through the whole song... It would be some much more creative and fun to work with if there was a way to automate it and turn it on and off in a easy way.. So I wonder if u know how to do that ?

My quick thought would be to duplicate the track you want to have the ARP on. You could then have "pad ARP" as one track and "pad" as the other. Cut out the sections you do/don't want effected and allow the other to play there. I'll look into automating the ARP though!

Good video (as always :) ), but in terms of explaining what Arp is doing it'd make more sense to first use it on Kontakt and then on Mai Tai - the former was much more "plucky", so it's easier to match the bars on Arp with what can be hears, whereas that Mai Tai patch had long attack and thus wasn't as obvious.

What version of S1 are you using? Pro? Artist? The arpeggiator may not be included in your level of S1.

That was my reaction too when I found out. :/ Tried finding some other solutions but haven't quite found anything that's simple enough for me. Considering a new midi controller with an arp built in but not sure.
