FYI, You're NOT getting tape compression. This plug-in is the sound of the AD/DA converters. Digital tape was storage ONLY, and did not provide a useable 'sound'. The different models of recorders offered all had different converter 'flavors' due to the early nature of the technology. Bit depths, etc...

I’m still using version 4. And I still haven’t learned all of the features. For someone who just does this as a hobby is there any reason to upgrade? I feel like version 4 is already more capable than I am as a user.
@TimTalksAudio11 күн бұрын
That's up to you! If you find that v4 isn't able to do something as easy as you'd like, and a newer update DOES add this feature, then it might be worth it. Eventually though, thehardware/software differences will make things harder too unless you "put a machine in a time capsule", and what i mean is stop OS updates, no more plugin updates, etc etc.

Sounds like the maker of your interface has it's own software for adjusting this (like focusrite sometimes has/does) or windows has exclusivity on something.

Have you ever noticed when you use event effects on a sliced up clip and render it, the other tracks stop playing? Happens to me all the time! Super annoying! I have to close out of ST1 and restart it to work. Any ideas why this is happening? i have tried adjusting just about everything to stop this from happening. Nothing works.
@TimTalksAudio11 күн бұрын
That's new to me. First i'd check if there's any updates available for your DAW/machine. Then try to recreate the effect (event effect) with a different plugin to see if there's a possible problem with the plugin (or compatability of the plugin and event fx)

There are other amp sims out there to use, but for a beginner, having a stock amp sim is a great feature to have! Also the amount of sounds it can make certainly is a plus for new users! I understand it may not "be the best", but something is often better than nothing. Happy Music making!

How do you set the scale its playing in? Like if I want E minor, how does the arpeggiator know?
@TimTalksAudio24 күн бұрын
You don’t set the scale. An arpeggiator takes the incoming notes and repeats them in the direction set by you, in the order the keys are pressed! So as long as you play in your key, the notes will work.

@EstebanOnGuitarАй бұрын
Thanks for the video. I have a Keys group and editing enabled for the group, but it doesn't do EQ changes on all channels at the same time. Why is that?
@TimTalksAudioАй бұрын
Unfortunately, that's not how groups and plugins work in studio one. For a quick example, if you have two "piano" tracks, group them together, and have eq plugins on both channels in the mixer, the plugins are NOT linked. This is on purpose because it gives you have the power to creatively have them set differently to achieve different sounds, but also how plugins can be stacked differently on the channels. Let's say channel 1 needs some compression before your eq needs, but channel 2 doesn't. Your plugin stack will be different, so we can't group plugin in "position 1" and plugin in "position 2". If you only need to eq once for both channels, consider using a bus. With a bus, you can route multiple channels to a single channel, then throw your plugins on the one bus. Any channel routed to the bus will have the plugin process applied to it, so keep track of your routing and destinations! Happy mixing! If you have anymore questions, reach out to me on Discord! discord.gg/S84G4ejBcj

Your videos are fab, thanks! I have a scenario going on right now in which I'm doing the sound design for a radio play. I have a gazillion tracks, with a shedload of voice actors and a bazillion sound effects. I had to leave space for a missing bit of dialogue, but the space I left is a smidge too big. I want to shift every damn thing on every track to the right of that space forward a smidge. The only way I can think of doing this is dragging across all the events/clips on all the tracks to highlight them and then nudge the whole lot along. I find the notion of this to be clumsy and also terrifying. In Studio One, is there any way, like in Adobe or Affinity design software that, once highlighted, I can group the aforementioned clips (command G) so I don't leave anything behind by accident, messing up my edit, and then shift command G to ungroup them once I'm done?
@TimTalksAudioАй бұрын
Yes, you can easily group by selecting what you want and hitting command or control G. As for ungrouping, You'll have to check if there is a predetermined shortcut for it or if you have to assign that yourself. Also, what S1 call a temporary group may be what you need? Basically after selecting everything you want shifted, just make the shift, and once you're done, you can click away the group by just selecting something else! I tried to hook up my old TC konnekt 48 to the 1824c but no luck. If I use the K48 as the clocksource I get adat - no link on the 1824. If I set the 1824c as clocksource the K48 syncs but I get no incoming audio on the 1824c. Guess I have to buy an 8200 :)
@TimTalksAudioАй бұрын
Sounds like possibly two things. When you have the TC as clock, you'll need to set your 1824 to look to external clock. That should be accessible via universal control. For your other setup, are you using the correct ports on the TC? looking at the unit, the bottom two TOSLink Connectors are paired and the top two are a different pair (used when running at higher sample rates). Follow your cable paths and ensure out of one goes into the other, and then doubled back again to ensure send and recieve on both sides. Hopefully this makes sense, but do you happen to know if there's a way to automatically have Studio 0ne (7) add and open a new layer when in loop recording without having to go in and clicking "add a new layer"? essentially opening a new track after each recording attempt so you can see then all stacked... Similar to how logic pro works?
@TimTalksAudioАй бұрын
Check and make sure you have these options available; 1) in your preferences, under advanced, and editing.. make sure you have Expand layers after recording takes is on; 2) on the transport bar on the bottom, to the left of the metronome section is a small gear icon, click on that and make sure that in the additional menu that expands, on the left side, activate "Takes to Layers" in the record mode section. These should get you what you're looking for. If not, feel free to reach out on discord and we'll get you set up. discord.gg/S84G4ejBcj

Everything works fine when I play back. It’s just mute to delay to turn it off and then when I make a mix, bring it down to listen to it, there’s no delay on the soul wonder tracker but everything is working in my studio one and I want to turn on and off and do what it supposed to do but when I miss it down, there’s no delay on the solo. What frequency did you high pass at? For each instrument?
@TimTalksAudioАй бұрын
I hate to say, but I used my ears. I'm not going to "cop out" and leave it at that... when "using your ears" what i was listening to, was for when the source got too thin, or didn't have enough body, that's when I stopped. You can roll it back a little if you'd like. For example, on guitars, you COULD go up to 200hz, but you'll be cutting into the fundamentals of the note. Another thing I listen for is, when I'm rolling off low end on guitar, I am not listening to the guitars. More so, I'm listening to everything else that WANTS to be in the low end, listening for when the "problem" gets out of the way and the low end elements can "breathe" easier. Something to remember is that you're working on a full mix with all of the frequencies, so another element may be the leader of that frequency area, and we should let it lead and have the other elements be out of the way. I hope this helps and happy mixing!
