I think one of the critical shifts we need to make is to stop talking in terms of right v. Left. I think a lot of people are increasingly not described usefully by that spectrum.

This video just made me realise that there is no political organisation pushing for the aggressive automation of all jobs, at least not to my knowledge.

They all put themselves into a corner by always focusing on promising to create jobs. If they run on getting rid of jobs, at least in America, I don't think they stand a chance. We are too programmed, at least in America, to base our self worth and the worth of others on what we do for a living. When the jobs start disappearing, we in America are going to be in trouble if no one is willing to have these important conversations.

Enjoyed stumbling on this video. I feel aligned broadly with your 3 principles, and so feel inclined to join the debate! I want to make a few points that relate to different aspects of diversity of thought structures, and how thoughts ripple out (or not). There's a mathematician (Nowak I think) that has studied the question of why collaboration even exists, if evolution is so driven by natural selection (ie competition). Collaboration is found everywhere in nature, from bees to apes to mycelium. Modelling it, he concluded that collaboration always beats competition when the two come head to head, because collaborators are stronger (they have help behind them) one on one. But colloboration doesn't last in the thrust of competition's sheer numbers (collaborators seem to reach an equilibrium of about 30% of system behaviour), and tends to phase in and out over time. For me, this suggests there's a fundamental problem here: much of the greed and profiteering that has caused inequality requires better colloboration to protect the weak, vulnerable, disadvantaged in society - but collaborative setups seem to always have a limited life span, and need frequent renewal. I think we see this playing out now in lots of ways big and small; eg the anti-trust suit against Google might be seen as a late collaborative reaction to this pattern playing out in Silicon Valley? On the evolutionary theme, societal cultures evolve slowly and they're notoriously complex and unpredictable to "engineer". Left-right-centre political identities are a good example. But somehow trying to forge a fourth pragmatic progressive path might be equally problematic, if mindsets are operating from the 'old' mental frameworks. David Bohm put it well when he described all humanity's most difficult and stubborn problems - war, famine, poverty etc - as caused by behaviour driven from "thought reflexes" - ie habitual thoughts that just play out without reflection, and are hard to shift. The challenge I'd make to a fourth way, is that it's hard to change thought systems from the outside: how would people even begin to engage? My experience is that you have to work from inside the system you want to change.

I am also a neurodivergent individual with ADHD and Asperger's. Over the past year, I have undergone a significant transformation in my political and socioeconomic beliefs, transitioning from a libertarian perspective to a more pragmatic progressive ideology. It appears to be the most rational ideology to embrace, in line with common sense and is compatible with our ever-changing society.

Einstein said something like “We can not solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them.” I don't know if you are conscious of this, but I think you are coming at this from a different level of thinking, which is great! As a much older person, I have a different context for the political issues you are addressing. With that in mind, I can see that my thoughts on how to move forward are at the same level of thinking at which the problems were created. I am grateful that you have opened up a different way of thinking about them for me.

I just sub'd to all your channels after watching on your main channel for a while. I think this is a helpful conversation to have and I like your approach. I've always leaned conservative, but I've found that the political discourse and the left/right paradigm don't work for me anymore. Your point about talking past each other is spot on. Being Gen X, I've witnessed this rise of hyper-partisanship that we have today and it's not sustainable.

I think neo-liberalism taught us that government are necessary for regulatory purposes, and at the same time democracy taught us that ANY centralized government will eventually get corrupted, in the most organic way. So no matter "what", the "how" needs to be a decentralized structure, and blockchain is this one technology specifically designed to scale up confidence mechanisms, without referring to a centralized power. Mixing that with low-bias AI arbitration and administration, we can assume that all the ingredients are here to put something very solid on the table. Then there's human attachment to what they know, to what they grew up expecting and even attachment to their sufferings.. Anyways, count me in ✊

This is very interesting and something that resonates well with me. May I suggest a repository where you (and others?) can build a knowledge base for a manifesto and/or an organisation/party program? A few months ago I started thinking about something similar after a string of local news about nepotism/buddyism/corruption at my local government. And I've been thinking how automation and AI could make running a council more effective and most of all transparency. So yes, I'd like to hear more about pragmatic progressive and how we can create a roadmap to get there.

Creating a dedicated channel would allow for deeper exploration and learning. It's an opportunity for both you and your audience to grasp the essence of Pragmatic Progressivism and engage more effectively in modern world issues. Seeing thoughts transformed into actions would be particularly beneficial. Considering a DAO as an open forum might foster global dialogue and a sense of communal growth, aspiring to create a voice ultimately supported by a diverse community. I understand that you want to compartmentalize different line of thoughts and topics with different YT Channels, but at the end of the day is not a bad idea to expose your wider audience to this part of you. I've seen many youtubers trying to split YT channels just to organize their content, but I think you might be losing an opportunity to reach more people with (in my opinion) your thoughts that are very aligned to the rest of your videos. I've seen good YT channels separating content just with playlists and different icons. Food for thought and #DavidShapiroForPresident

If one is looking to model a system that is in harmony with its environment, then perhaps we can start looking at the qualities that make living systems able to function in their environments well. There are certain empirical measures we can take. Every action we perform as individuals will have effect on the greatest system, each of our internal thoughts and emotions, our ways of relation will externalize themselves through the systems that we create to mitigate or obtain the objects of value in our minds. Those thoughts and emotions then drive the health of the larger organism that we comprise. That larger organism is the cultural social public square we create, whether online or in real life. It has a life of its own, generates its own low entropy attractor points that keep us individually locked in Nash equilibrium states which in themselves don't trend to generally favorable outcomes,. Part of the solution I think is too better understand ourselves, so as to understand the behaviors that drive larger externalities and create circumstances that are less than ideal for everyone, then to strive to strike a balance that affords maximum individual freedom while also respecting the coherence of the larger organism which one always lives in. If we can start understanding the universe as a living organism, then we can better understand our place within it.

Very good analysis. Replacing the 2B+ slaves that our general society is based on with technology has the potential to truly change our paradigm, and vastly improve the human condition. And it’s way more likely to change than our ingrained, for profit systems. As it actually has the potential to be more profitable and streamlined for the ones on top. Having experienced all this suffering around this planet firsthand, this brings me much joy and optimism. But at the same time… in my background, we generally used technology for oppression… so I’m not 100% on the belief of the former.

In my mind, a capitalist is a wealthy person who has so much wealth that they don’t need to labor, so instead of laboring to secure their position in society they invest their excess wealth towards a new venture in the hopes that it will yield more wealth than they initially invested. Most folks are not capitalists in this sense, but to survive within this system they must sell their labor to a capitalist for a wage or salary which they will live on while they work to generate the profits for the capitalist. If capitalists no longer require human labor as an input to create more wealth I can only see 1 of 3 things happening. Either the population dramatically decreases because of mass evictions/starvation/murder of former laborers, or the abolishment of capitalism as a system and most of the laws that underwrite it, or more likely, a bloody fight between the factions who prefer either of the first two options. I have subscribed as I am keen on learning of other paths to explore which may provide additional options like you mentioned such as decentralization and stakeholder capitalism. Good luck with your new channel!

It will be good to look how new forms of democracy could look like. Parliamentary representative democracy dose not work in the best way anymore. Specially in two party system like in the US or the UK. Referenda works well if they are just for few mountain villages in Switzerland but I'm not sure if they are always good (see Brexit). Citizens Assembly? Something else? I'm personally sceptical about Enlightened Absolutism of ASI.

Part of the benefit of a world in which less and less people have to work is we can all spend more time on having discussions about the systems around us and how to keep/stop/improve them. Will there always be a sizeable chunk of the population complaining even after we achieve something equivalent to utopia? Probably. But as long as people still have that right to complain I'm all for it. So i'm glad to see you getting comfortable with trying to have specific conversations about how things will go in the context of the changes that are happening.

What a great initiative, David. Certainly this times ask for updated approaches to politics. There is a lot of confusion among citizens about how the world really works in economic and political terms. So a honest discussion about those topics could shed a light over dark points of view and help citizens to move towards a decentralized and more fair society, increasing the overall happiness and well being. I suppose that, in order to make this practical and as much scientific as possible, one of the main topics should be the public data analysis process. I work with and for governments, directly or indirectly as a consultant, and also drive my work with lots of data analysis, and I think, based on my experience, that this is crucial for moving politics from ideological and theoretical discourses to practical and real actions. But the access to reliable data is cumbersome at least. Public data is fragmented, unstructured, split, buried, outdated and unaccessible. So the works on this issue should be in place for this initiative to work and be able to be replicated by your followers in other places too. Cheers for you and for the community here, and also my best wishes for this holidays to everyone!

whats your foreign policy? how would your proposed form of government handle economic competition in the world economy while your government is no longer mainly focused on economics? Or maybe your proposed government is more like a proposed framework for global cooperation ? I remember you mentioned in a live that you would you like more global cooperation over a one world government, decentralization is key in whichever tbh, gotta maintain diversity on all levels or else we would stagnate. Your emphasis on evidence-based politics is commendable. In a world often swayed by rhetoric and emotion, anchoring political discourse in data and proven outcomes is crucial. Would you use governmental AI or mediate more adult discourse throughout politics? Interested to see how you would integrate governmental ai. Especially how, depending on the way it's used, can create a 100x more adaptive system than the way we currently operate. How would government employees handle fast change like that? Also interested to hear about your thoughts on AI mediated social media platforms or even mainstream news; we could potentially create cyberculture that gives the user a deeper sense of community by matching people up with others with the same interest, like a discord or something haha. And the news can be analyzed by ai and rank it by the most important news that everyone should hear, also better filter for news that you are particularly wanting to hear about. I mean that's just the ai powered internet I guess, where all search bars are ai powered and you have your own ai internet interface while everything is ai-powered experience. Your foundational beliefs in the general goodness of democracy, free-market capitalism, and Western ideology, despite their flaws, set a clear ideological framework for your platform. It would be beneficial to explore how these beliefs interact with and adapt to the evolving global context, especially in relation to non-Western perspectives and global inequalities.
