Thanks for the Quad Face tutorial - nice to see how these tools and concepts work together!

Thanks for the videos Justin. Also wanted to mention that a quad with a diagonal line through the middle must have the diagonal line properties set to "Soft", "Smooth" and have the "Cast Shadows" turned off. Otherwise it is only two triangles.

Even then I don't believe it really acts as a quad if you subdivide it - will have to test
@mischritch4 жыл бұрын
@@ThesketchupessentialsUsually the best test I have found is checking it with the Quadface tools "Flip Triangulation" tool or the "Live Mesh Analysis"

With Quadface tools and SUbD you can do almost anything. Only sky (and RAM) is the limit ;)

Lol - something like that :)

As a prop developer, I work the other way around. I take a realistic, high poly shape and reduce its complexity so that it takes a fraction of memory and rendering time but such that the prop is still satisfactory for most projects. Blender uses quads all the time, seemingly unaffected by geometry complexity.
@jeffharmed16164 жыл бұрын
In theory, it is possible to model to the final shape using quads and then finish with transmutr by bringing down the poly count.
@Thesketchupessentials4 жыл бұрын
Is it a shape modeled by someone else that you're trying to reduce? The whole point of this workflow and subdivision in general is to model something at a low level of detail and add more using the subdivision extension. That's how you get the high poly shapes... Also, having done a bit with Blender lately, it still takes a performance hit at high levels of geometry depending on what's in your model - it just handles a lot more than SketchUp before finally bogging down

TheSketchUpEssentials i think you’re right to work from simple to complex when modelling a project. But to provide thousands of props, you cannot start from scratch. For example, when creating 3D people. It’s better to look for a DAE file and simplify it.

Hey Justin can you do a tutorial on how to model and render a dilapidated wall? Thank you

Hi Justin ! Take my regards. You've really been a very helpful person for me. I have a problem I am facing. I used 1001 bit tool for creating a facade full of louvers. But the dilemma is that the facade contains many voids composed on them. 1001 bit tools is not identifying the voids creating louvers on the voids too, each of the louvers are in group. So is there any easy way to create void on the louver surface ? Hoping for a reply from you. Thanks.

Hello sir, thank u so much for ur effort, i was wondering is there any free extensions that can take part instead of SUB D and Vertex tool?
@Thesketchupessentials4 жыл бұрын
Not for subdivision - sandbox tools can do a bit of this, but not the same

which two free tools I can use alternative to SubD & vertex?

Is there any plugin that can turn triangular shapes to quad shapes? When you import a sketchup model to a program as 3Dsmax or blender it's difficult to put the uv maps on triangular faces of the sketchup model

hey, Justin, I am trying to use quadface tools on SketchUp 8pro, for some reason when I install it I keep getting an error reading --Error Loading File TT_QuadFaceTools.rb C:/Program Files (x86)/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins/TT_QuadFaceTools.rb:37: syntax error, unexpected ':', expecting ')' ...tension_json, symbolize_names: true).freeze-- I have uninstalled and reinstalled, I have the TTlib 2.7.0 (i also tried the current version but when that didn't work I went found the specific version it called for "or newer"). I have hit a wall as far as my problem-solving skills go, perhaps you can help? please and thank you

You can't really expect the newest versions of extensions to work with a 10 year old version of a software...
