I actually enjoyed this episode of brazing with SiB not to many people think of SiB I've been having it in stock for about 3 yrs now it has came in handy for alot of repairs. It's good for cast iron repairs and like they were showing art with dissimilar material. Great video everyone keep up the amazing work ❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Very instructive. I've been welding off and on for 40 + years of my life. I've done stainless to carbon steel frequently enough, but I've never tried brass, copper, or aluminum to steel. As a matter of fact I use brass backing plates on steel with really big gaps sometimes. Sometimes carbon sticks, or aluminum. I had no idea they'd fuse lol

Note sure if we fused them, rather used the bronze at a medium to do so

Need a video for tig setting up the gas for a pedaless tig setup and how to sharpen the tip and the best techniques for 3g and 2g for dummies

The brass is fuming because its burning off the zinc, just like galvanized pipe

Exactly. I was just going to post that. Brass is dangerous to weld, so make sure you don’t inhale the fumes. You can get zinc fever from that. It’s not fun.

If you are using a Silicon Bronze filler rod, you are not welding, you are brazing. The technique is different. Basically, you want to heat up the base metal until the filler rod will melt if you touch the filler rod to the metal. You should then build up a puddle of braze and then move forward while keeping the arc on the braze metal puddle. Copper is weldable when using a copper filler rod. While you can use copper electrical wire in a pinch, it is best to use a deoxidized copper tig rod. Copper is a bit tricky to weld as it goes very quickly from a solid to a liquid. I recommend using a chill bar when welding copper, especially on the thinner sheets.

you can weld or braze with silicon bronze. in this video we do both.

@@Welddotcom I will respectfully disagree. Yes you can weld with silicon bronze on copper alloys. On other alloys, you may achieve some degree of fusion, but there will likely be adverse effects with respect to strength and toughness. Brazing works by adhesion to the parent metal. This is how dissimilar metals are joined.

I work for Choice Metals in New Hampshire and I have a few sculpture guys that come in to rummage for a variety of different metal pieces (we are one of the only places that will sell any size and type of metal with no minimum) it’s a pretty cool way to make a living.

Why didn’t you use the AC when welding the aluminum? I’ve found it works very well with steel and even stainless.

Good video, I've been interested in joining dissimilar metals with tig for a while. In addition to SilBrz, I've also used ALBrz & PhosBrz.....but I prefer AC for the cleaning action and improved wetting. Arc shots were a bit difficult on the carbon to aluminum..... which material was the base?

Nomenclature, when joining dissimilar materials you are not welding but rather Brazing using a third compound to join them. The good part this can also be accomplished by using oxyacetylene torch too.
