I love all your further embossing folder, but this 3 D`s are the Hit No. 1. Thank you for them. I hope to get them soon !! A hint: I moist the paper always when I want to use it in embossingfolders. It always gives a more beautiful result. Kind regards from Germany

Yes, we definitely recommend spritzing the paper lightly as to better hold the embossed design. :)

I have found with the 3-D embossing folders that the less design you have, the more the 3-D stands out. This is 2020 and I recently bought the rose 3-D folder. Again, all the open space allows the rose to stand out much more prominently than the ones that have a lot of heavy background cut work. Thank you Tim for 3-D!

My 3D Fades lumber/wood grain embossing folder CUTS thru my paper. I’ve tried everything to fix it, INCLUDING placing a layer of acetate on it to protect the paper I’m trying to emboss. I’m only running it thru once, I only use one plate…still it slices thu my paper. If it has any design on it, it rips and cuts it. (The metallic side would slice and the white side would be beautifully embossed. It was just in one area of the folder that was really sharp that damaged my paper. I’m so happy I found this vid. I was scared to purchase another 3D folder. I guess I need to spray water on it. I will def try.

Firstly, thank you so much for all your amazing tutorials. XO. I have most of your 3D embossing folders and always follow your advice with misting etc when using them. They all turn out amazingly… all except the ‘Intertwine’ folder - no matter what I do, and no matter how thick the paper, it still rips in one little area. Is there anything else I can try or do to maybe prevent this from happening? Much appreciated for any advice. 😃 (Lizzie, from Australia)

Have you tried reducing the pressure, either by using thinner cardstock, or by replacing the acrylic plate in your sandwich with a stack of shims that's thinner? (I'm assunimg there's an acrylic plate in your sandwich, but you didn't say what machine you're using so I might be wrong about that. If so, hopefully there's something else uou'd be able to remove and replace wirh a stack of shims.) In your shoes, I'd probably start by testing what happens with a piece of copier/printer paper - if that doesn't tear, perhaps there's cardstock in your stash that's thin enough to be embossed without tearing. Alrernatively, you could build a stack of cardstock and/or chipboard shims (use thin cardboard, such as from cereal boxes, if you don't have chipboard). You'd want to start with a stack that's significantly thinner than the acrylic plate, and then add more shims until you're satisfied with the result. I don't know whether either of these approaches will work, but they're what I would try if my cardstock was tearing. Your other option would be to contact the company that makes the machine you're using, and the one that makes the embossing folder you're having trouble with, to see if they can offer any suggestions. Hope this helps!

@@bunnylands916 Yes, I do use an acrylic plate, so I’ll take your advice and build up a bit thinner sandwich. Thank you so much for the awesome advice!
@bunnylands9162 жыл бұрын
I hope it works! I know that in the video, Tim says when you have tearing, it indicates your cardstock is too thin, so I might be totally wrong about pressure being the problem. I just know that when I've used 3D folders they seem to work OK without a lot of pressure, so I'm hoping that a thinner sandwich will be the answer for you. I'm sure it's really frustrating to keep having your embossing turn out fine except in one small area!
@bunnylands9162 жыл бұрын
I just had another idea about a possible way to decrease the pressure where your cardstock keeps tearing, and this would be something you could test quickly. You know how if you have an intricate die that's not cutting through in one spot, and you add a small shim in that spot to increase pressure there? Well, what if with the embossing folder you did essentially the opposite, by adding a shim to your acrylic plate, but with a small section cut out of the shim where it would contact the part of the embossing folder that's tearing your cardstock? That would increase the pressure on the rest of the embossing folder, which might have the effect of reducing the pressure in the problem area.(That's only a guess on my part, as I've never tried this.) Of course, you'd need to make sure you're not forcing your machine, and if it's really tight you might not be able to add a shim, or your shim would be too thin to have any effect. It's also possible that a shim would end up causing even more of your cardstock to tear. However, this approach would be easier than building a stack of shims to use in place of your acrylic plate, so you might want to give it a try first.☺

@@bunnylands916 thank you so much! This is a great idea. On the tutorials people say they run their 3D Embossing folders through 3 times… with my Big Shot, I really only need to run it through the once and it’s usually brilliant!

So far the 3D looks like a marketing ploy to me. Also, come up with new designs --- Update 10/12 I purchased the Mechanics folder to see what these folders are like and it is very detailed and different, so not a marketing ploy. BUT, please come up with some new designs -- not flowers and butterflies and stuff we already have or seen, but some new designs. -- Thanks
