Only issue I have is these are marketed mainly to kids and they’re not cheap Don’t know a lot of parents dropping $350 on a basic mono synth toy
@DWangaroo4 ай бұрын
Price point also makes me kind of hesitant, but this is an indie developer so I kind of get it. Also I believe it's a polyphonic 4-voice synth/sample-player. Seems limited sound-editing wise, but UI seems fun and easy to grasp for non-synth users. Definitely in the expensive toy market, but toys these days aren't that cheap anymore so I can see someone getting this for their kids.

I have the Dato Duo, I’m a piano teacher. My students love it. The way you can just effortlessly get cool sounds happening is worth the price point (for me as an early backer anyway). Also very pleased to support the project.

I see a sub market for adults who want to invite their non musician friends to hangout and make music together tho. Almost like a board game! It reminds me of Trouble, except it's a mono synth lol. in my personal experience, when kids get access to things like this, all they care about is how to fill up all empty spaces in the sequencer with notes and make the sound as loud as possible. So it's more of a toy for the developers of this thing than for kids
@FunnyPhisto4 ай бұрын
I would have thought so as well, but my 3 year old got the Dato Duo as a gift and she really likes exploring it. She knows (and likes) electronic music because we listen and dance together to it, so maybe that’s also a factor. I was worried about the sturdiness at first but it’s built really tough.

Both this and the older instrument look like a ton of fun, really well designed and offering great music creation opportunities, especially for kids. But the price is just crazy high, over $400 for the drum machine at launch, for something marketed as a toy. And it *is* a toy, it is not something a professional would ever find much use with compared to the competition, so I don't see how the price can be justified. Make it out of plastic and get the price under $100 somehow and you could have a hit, otherwise you're just making something for the children of synth gearheads.
