If our Season palette is our colour recipe, the many colours are the ingredients. Others see an endless variety of colours and combinations that always look amazing, never knowing that we have a system right beside us all the time. We found a way to channel our light energy, the reason that others can see us, into a focussed, vibrant, strong, and peaceful image. Wow. Good on us! 🌻

I don't mind going full on woowoo. Colors have vibration and having worn my colors and decorated my home with them has helped me connect to who I am. Terry Wildfong quoted Katheryn Kalisz as saying something to the effect of "wearing our colors heals us". I couldn't agree more!

We were just talking about this on the podcast with Mary Steele Lawler in MS who feels colour in her surroundings the same way, grounding and healing. For me, it's closer to the saying, 'all energy is but one energy' in the way the colours I wear finds a synchronous wave pattern with mine, very woowoo, I know, I mean compared with the previous situation where the energy of what I wore neutralized or canceled mine. We were two completely different wave patterns.

It means a lot that the videos are helpful, thank you. It may be that I offer a new perspective on what you already know. I try to 'normalize' an experience that can sound abstract and unrelated to us by using familiar analogies, and also to move appearance conversations away from the distance of the celebrity-wealth realm and closer to our every day. Perhaps I also go further back into how it all works, in that the appearance staircase begins with light and how humans see and ends (if it ever ends) in how we see and others see us in the world.

These cloth swatches look beautiful! And that lipstick color looks gorgeous with your skin tone and eyes. Although I do notice that your lipstick isn’t going all the way to the vermillion border. A lot of women apply lipstick this way without realizing that if you go just a smidge over what they consider the border, it looks much better. This will not make the lips overlined. Consider trying it and wearing it on camera and see how it looks. Btw, your style transformation is one of my favorites.
@ChristineScaman

Thank you! The lip colour is a dark mulberry brown shade. It becomes pink under the lights, same as my hair turns darker and cooler. Because the camera is a wide angle lens, my face shape loses symmetry. I could spend days fixing this but I figure the video's not about me... I agree that it's distracting to people though. One day when I have a dedicated filming room and great camera, I may work harder to present myself more accurately, but till then, it is what it is :) Thank you also about the transformation. I've only kept a few pictures, they keep me honest and humble, a reminder that the question, "What in the world could I have been thinking??" is relevant all the time.

Love this video--when Michelle and I did my sci-art draping it was so fun and enlightening. I got two sets cause we were a bit torn at the end between two seasons but of course one won! but just to reminisce, I got both. Thanks so much for such a comprehensive system Christine. Love your work.

It's an amazing experience, right? We see ourselves each day and we've never seen ourselves looking all these different ways. The credit for the system goes to Kathryn Kalisz, founder of the Sci\ART system of classifying colour, and all the folks who came before who noticed that people are coloured like the world around us and set up systems for organizing the categories. I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed your time with Michelle!

Christine, I am in absolute awe of you. I have DREAMED of being a color analyst for years, I have studied every video I possibly can on KZbin, every system and its breakdowns. The ways you teach is truly incomparable. I love your approach, I love how you think and I really resonate with the ways you go about not only explaining analysis, but actually applying it. Do you offer trainings for certifications? I would be ABSOLUTELY honored!!!! 😭

Many sincere thanks for your words :) For the KZbin videos, I try to help people use their colour palettes and understand their Season, both of which have learning curves to maximize their potential. I also try to focus on the meaning of appearance, the Why of colour analysis. KZbin is about application, with just enough theory to give a foundation to the application. The training course is much more technical/theoretical. You can find information on my website (link in Description) under Colour Analysis. The course is fully booked for 2024 and 2025, but it may be of interest to know that the same colour analysis method is available year-round in the US (visit chrysaliscolour dot com under Careers/Training).

I got my neutrals swatches from you in the mail a few weeks ago. I was actually thinking of emailing you and asking if you would ever pretty please sell test drape/luxury drape swatches! I just ordered mine tonight and I'm super excited to get them. It's been almost a year since I was draped and even though I do fine with the fan, I love fabric options so much better.
@ChristineScaman

I've thought about it for some time with the Luxury Drapes and had a winter to wonder what new ways they might help. The Test Drapes will be reserved for analysts and require training to learn to use. The Luxuries would actually be more helpful to you because they're more interpretive and closest to the real world, the next level of the system in the chain, from your colours > your Season > the ink palette > the Test Drapes > the Luxury colours > your wardrobe. I agree about fabrics, it's a new way of understanding. Every application is, cosmetics, jewelry, hair, the more ways we see it, the clearer our perceptions.

Can you explain the difference between Clear and True seasons please. There is some lingo in learning about colors that confuses me.@@ChristineScaman
@ChristineScaman
@ChristineScaman 10 ай бұрын
Thank you for adding this to your question. I'm working on a Light Summer video and looked for True Summer prints, thinking they'd be a good comparison, but the selection of images is scarce. The jargon is confusing for sure. A True Season refers to one of the original four groups, True Summer, True Winter, True Spring, and True Autumn. These happen to be fully warm or cool in their colour properties (or colour dimensions). They're also the colour groups that are combined to make the Neutral Seasons. These days, with 12 Seasons of which 4 are True Seasons, the other 8 are Neutrals. They're made by combining 2 True Seasons, a warm and a cool one, giving the resulting group blended or neutral warmth, so called a Neutral Season. Clear (also called bright, high saturation, or high chroma) is a property of colour, along with warm or cool, and light or dark. These are the 3 dimensions of colour. They apply more or less in any of the 12 Seasons. The Bright Seasons (or clear in other colour analysis systems) combine True Winter and True Spring to make the two Neutral Seasons of Bright Winter and Bright Spring. True Summer is soft in its colour properties, rather than bright. I hope this is helpful. Please ask if I can explain better :)

Thank you for the explanation. So much to learn and research! I'm sure prints have alot to do with your body shape as well. Would it be possible to do a video on the transition of using your colors without getting rid of your entire wardrobe such as scarves in your colors while wearing black for instance. @@ChristineScaman

Dear Christine, I have been watching videos on coloranalyzes since months and I just couldn't understand how they "gave/choose" those colours for a palette. I am a dark autumn and in every palette I seen, I saw only colors I didn't really like. I was confused and frustrated. You changed that when you explained that every color of all the colors in existence is within us only what one has different is the shade. And all of our colors are within that shade and that is our season. Life changing for me, thank you 🙂🙂🙂 Now insted of only look for some colors, I see how I can find my colors!!! ThankYou, ThankYou, ThankYou!!!

Hello- I find color analysis so interesting. Your videos explain the concept of color so wonderfully. Thank you for breaking it down so it’s very understandable. Questions: do you do color analysis in person? I would like to get mine done! I also definitely want to buy the drapes in my color house to take shopping after I get my color analysis confirmed. I have a strong feeling I’m a bright winter. I don’t even know what state you’re in but my husband and I RV full-time and I would definitely make the trip to meet you! Thank you, Tanya

I'm glad to hear the videos are making sense of colour analysis and how it can help you. Yes, I only see clients in-person. I live on the East coast of Canada, in Anne of Green Gables country. Very RV friendly, we have many visitors from May to November. I hope you're able to make the journey (and you'd want to make your colour analysis appt about 4-6 months in advance). Thanks for another of your comprehensive videos. It provokes a question, excusez-moi: the light summer drapes seem to resemble some of the lighter colours of my true spring palette as well. Am I mistaken or is it perfectly understandable?

I'm a draped Light Spring and I had a similar thought. on the website, the Light Summer yellow in the set looks warmer than the LSp yellow--did the photos get switched, maybe? 5.1A is the lightest and coolest LSp yellow so maybe it's close to that, but I'm used to wearing my darker warmer yellows so I was surprised to see what looks like one of mine in the LSu photo
@ChristineScaman
@ChristineScaman 2 жыл бұрын
It's very normal to find similar colours in many palettes, near and further away. If you saw them side by side, you'd see that they're different. Many examples, a peachy orange in Dark Winter colours and True Spring neutrals. The TSp version is softer. Bright Spring and Dark Winter blue. But if we moved those colours into the other Season, they wouldn't fit as well, your eyes might spot an imbalance in the colour strip. If we moved one of those light Light Summer colours into the fabric lineup for True Spring, it would be different from the others, maybe faded, further back, greyish, not equal with the rest. More important than colours between Seasons differing by a few degrees, it's that every colour in a Season belongs because of the other colours. In real life, would a switch matter? Depends on the person, the piece of clothing, the size of the area, and what it's worn with. It's good to think less about single ink swatches and more about how the colour gets along with all the others. When you think about colours, talk about 3 aspects. True Spring has many light colours, as does Light Summer. But TSp is warmer and brighter as well. Some of the Tsp neutrals might work in small areas in a LSu palette but for the most part, they wouldn't fit easily with the other colours, the seagull blue-grey, the soft raspberry, and many others. Light Summer has a warm and cool side, but it is also softer than the Springs so its warmer yellow is softer too. The colour in fabric looks like a Soft Autumn colour more than any kind of Spring, it doesn't have the bounce and would be overtaken in an outfit. It's all about those other colours. Could a Light Spring or Soft Autumn wear that warmer Light Summer yellow? Sure they could, it has enough in common with the other colours. Could a Light Summer wear the rest of Light Spring or Soft Autumn? No, outfits wouldn't succeed nearly as well as Light Summer compositions. That point about having enough common, super important because shopping will require some borrowing from other 'technical' groups. Often, it works out fine because a particular colour shares enough common ground even if the whole Season looks really different. Being able to take actual fabrics shopping will show you whether combinations are working or not, and on this, trust yourself. If it would be perfectly fine on a woman in a restaurant, it will be fine for you. Worth mentioning maybe, there are no duplicate colours or fabrics. Second, this we know, cameras never show anything as it is, from single colours to the 3 versions of me, none of which is quite right. Final thought, humans eyes can only tell so many colours apart, which is why I'm not a believer in more Seasons. There would be even more colour similarity. You're so much stronger by learning the Season you are and how to think in terms of the 3 colour settings and how a colour gets along with the others. This is a great question, please ask if I could explain more.

Years ago (70’s or 80’s) I was told I was a winter when I had my colors done. They had a terrible time determining winter as I had my hair frosted. And the winter colors they gave me are certainly what I naturally gravitate to. With the expansion to 12 palettes, should I have my colors done again?
@ChristineScaman
@ChristineScaman 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I encourage you to have your colours analyzed once again. The analysis process is more refined and we now have 12 Seasons, understanding that most people are neither fully warm or cool and instead, they're somewhere in between or neutral. Coloured hair is always covered in a neutral-grey scarf. You may be a Winter but you'll understand which one and why, and how to apply it to your clothes, hair, and makeup choices. You can find links to the analyst directory on my site in the Description box above. Good luck!

My Color Me Beautiful analysis 40 years ago has been very useful over the decades. At that time, they only had the basic Four Season types, so I’m not sure of my subtype, but I think it’s Soft Summer. I’m closer to neutral than other Summers, I have some golden flecks in my hazel eyes and can wear some Autumn colors like the cooler, lighter khaki greens without looking awful in them. Not the golden colors, though, golden yellows, oranges, warm reds and, especially, yellow-greens look bad, as does black. How can I determine if I’m a Soft or True Summer? Light, muted, cool blues, greens, pinks and soft white (grayish, not creamy or yellowish) look best on me and taupe and cooler browns look a lot better than yellowish beiges or camel. Grays and purples are in my recommended palette, but I feel too drab in them and I find purple quite difficult to style. I stopped shopping for them after struggling too much. Thanks for your help!
@ChristineScaman

I agree that if we just wear our nearest True Season, we already look and present better. As our eye sensitizes, we see it's not quite right. I wish I had an easy way for people to fine tune this, but it's a job for a controlled setting, calibrated colours, and a person trained in what to look for. Possibly the video, Nextdoor Season Colours might be helpful, but for neighbour Seasons, even an analyst has to be on their toes.

Hi Christine, I remember that in one of your videos you said you do not recommend harmonising/shopping with the Corporate fan only. Could you please tell us more about it and how to use this fan in general? I haven’t found any relevant info on how to use it and I do feel that it can lead me astray sometimes when used by it’s own. I’m a Bright Spring and the Corporate fan is a bit darker than the Classic. Sometimes it makes Dark Winter (probably) clothes look really harmonious with it… I’m sorry that I’m writing here but I don’t remember in which video you spoke about it.
@ChristineScaman
@ChristineScaman 2 жыл бұрын
It's a good question, thank you for asking, although I can't recall where I said it either. It's possible that my reasoning was exactly the situation you've encountered yourself. The variety of colours is less and they're easier to harmonize, whereas the neutrals are more and they're harder to harmonize. Dark colours are also harder to understand, just like anything in the dark, and the tendency is to place a lot of emphasis on darkness since the other dimensions are less available. The Corporate fans are wonderful for palette expansion and business looks, as the name suggests. I've understood colours and Seasons better with them, but the Classic palettes might be a better starting place to get used to working with it.

Christine, what are your thoughts regarding the addition of a “Soft Winter” in color analysis? (I’ve seen a couple videos referring to it).
@ChristineScaman
@ChristineScaman Жыл бұрын
I've heard it mentioned but I'm not familiar with the idea behind it or how it would be identified in the analysis process. I'd have a lot of questions before I could form any thoughts. In general, I prefer the idea of having fewer Seasons and understanding our own well. From your words, it sounds as though it would be a separate Season rather than a way to adapt our own type of Winter. I'd wonder how or by whom the colours would be selected. Would it apply to every colour family at all value levels? Just the cools in the Neutral Seasons? And going back a step to where Season begins, how would these colours be made? By adding gray, white, yellow...We can't change one dimension, brightness in this case, without changing the other two, kind of like a recipe using pigment. Double the baking soda, more than one thing will change or need to be adapted for the outcome you wanted. I understand why some Winters might feel better in softer colours but there are many ways of softening the impression without creating a new Season. Textile, line and shape, neutral colours (especially in Winter).... The pendulum can swing too far and folks may over-soften when they'd have been better off in their appearance staying in the original Season. I'm making assumptions though, emphasis only on needing more answers and context before deciding how to think about it. Applies to everything really :)

Hi, I'm glad you're finding useful information here :) About beige, the warmer variations, like camel, will not be the best choices BW can make. Whether in clothing or any other item, camel beige doesn't find a home since colours all become part of the same appearance. You're right that purses and shoes are better places for those less belonging colours because they're small in area, worn away from the face, and beige (like denim) can be a fashion neutral that we can see as no-colour or nude. BW is also a neutral-warmth Season that does well with neutral cool, very light colours. Beige, like any colour, has hundreds of versions and a cool light sand colour might give you the same effect and look better with you and your clothing. BW's best light colours are silvery grays, and they also have a few surprisingly beautiful browns. I have found one colour that might belong to the beiges, but I think most people might call it light green-gold. It's important to honour what our own preferences tell us is beautiful. If you know people with similar colouring to yours who wear beige trench coats and you love the look, why not wear it? Since I don't feel good wearing colours that I know are not flattering, I find a good compromise by wearing the style in one of my better colours. It's a good way to wear the trend, be an individual, and feel a lot more confident in my appearance!

I find color analysis confusing. I have been “professionally” draped twice, about 30 years ago and pronounced a Winter by one and a Spring by another. In the video, I see Christine in different color palettes and she looks great in all of them. I wish I could see the subtle differences that could help me with this.

Colour analysis systems have come a long way, as have so many other fields. Today, the analysis process is more refined, colour calibrations for drapes are more accurate, and the customer experience may be better supported after the analysis. I actually wear the same palette all the time (I'm a Dark Winter). The makeup is identical in each video, although I can look different depending on lighting conditions and software settings. It's the analyst's job to see the differences and explain how to interpret them, I wouldn't expect that of any client, although during the analysis, you would be able to see changes in your face if what to look for were explained. Maybe the previous results were both right, or you're a Winter-Spring blend, but it would be nice for you to know why and how to apply the results :)

Great question! Every person I have seen has been one Season in every feature and I don't believe what you describe would happen, speaking from experience and how our colouring makes sense to me. I think our features are coloured by the same genetics, like we have the same hemoglobin in our face and hands, and I'm pretty sure the same applies to our other pigments of melanin and carotene. I keep an open mind but I have never seen a person coloured out of harmony or in more than one Season. Often, it's just a matter of learning to see the right way (which isn't something people should expect of themselves, why would we be born with that knowledge or expertise?) Many times when you see apparently warm and cool colours in your appearance, it's because you're a Neutral Season, with some warmth and some coolness, like most people, a blend of two True Seasons.

I would like to buy one, but my colors were analyzed by Carol Brailey, (International Image Institute) and they have 16 seasons in their system. I am advised to wear only True Autumn in that system, I wonder which one I buy here? This True Autumn the same as in that system?

I wish I could advise you, but various brands may differ, as they can in all industries. I'm not sure how Carol might advise, but it may be worth asking.

I love this video, as well as your book. I was draped by Lisa Kelly in Ottawa, and it was such an absolutely incredible experience. I cannot possibly say enough wonderful things about Lisa or about the Sci/ART system. It is enthralling and life-changing! 🙂❤️ I do have a question…I have multiple chemical sensitivities. Shopping in thrift stores makes great sense economically, environmentally, as well as for a wide selection of colours and styles. Unfortunately, most of the clothes have been washed in scented products, and have often come into contact with perfume worn by the original owner. I have tried putting the clothes outside in a windstorm, running the clothing through on a steam cycle, and adding vinegar to the washing machine. Nothing worked. The only thing that worked was hanging the clothes for months in a well-ventilated area (plus, of course, repeated washings). Do you know if there a faster and easier way to remove scents from clothes?

I'm so glad that you enjoyed the analysis and your time with Lisa, who truly is lovely. Enthralling is a great word, like a 3 hour movie that feels like 1.. As I read your ideas for removing scent, nothing new went through my mind. Staying with natural fibres, which seem to hold scent less than synthetic fabrics, would not be practical in my life. This may seem odd but as a former veterinarian, there are many enzymatic odor removers for pet owners and animal hospitals to use. Some are very good but they might be hard on clothing fibres. I imagine you've Googled it, where any question you have, many others have asked. Some of those answers are ingenious! Besides that, I'm sorry to say I am of little help.

I’ve had to deal with these problems, too. I think a lot of dryer sheets have a fatty ingredient that coats fabric and holds smells. I bought an ozone generator off Amazon for $50, first to zap out car smells, but some scented bath bombs I forgot in the car were totally descented by the process! It’s essentially concentrating the oxygenation process you found worked when you hung clothes out in ventilation. Be careful-no living thing can survive ozonation, so it needs to be sealed in its own chamber, but it is a natural means of sanitation, and has been effective for any stinky thing I throw at it.

Q re flow colours between bright winter and bright spring…which palette is brighter?
@ChristineScaman
@ChristineScaman 2 жыл бұрын
Bright Winter is brighter, meaning more saturated. I'm not a colour theorist but this is how I see it. Adding yellow for warmth can soften colour, as can white and grey in pastels.

Hi Christine. I'm a new subscriber and notice that you usually wear black in your videos. As your hair appears to have some auburn tones, I was wondering what your season is .
@ChristineScaman
@ChristineScaman 2 жыл бұрын
Hi and welcome :) I rarely wear black around my face in my own life and black became the video colour for a few reasons. One, it was least distracting in the thumbnail. Even black in a print was too much, you can see it in some of the older videos. Second, black changed the least with the various software steps. The colours in the video change a lot from how I really look, hair, clothes, and lip colour more intense, eye makeup less (I'm wearing thick black liquid eyeliner and a silly amount of mascara, for example). To be honest, I also found that if I wore black, folks got used to it and comments were about the content rather than my appearance. I'm happy to talk about it but it's confusing when the colour viewers see in the video isn't the actual colour of the clothing and the comments are about an on-screen persona that doesn't actually exist. I think of black now as my video uniform. My hair does have some auburn and a lot of silver actually. Maybe the best image of my colouring is in the olive sweater in this video, that was maybe 6 years ago? I am a Dark Winter. I've been told that I actually look very Autumn but in a testing situation, I'm better in True Winter than True Autumn. That bit of Autumn in DW is important for me though.

Great question, thanks for bringing it up. I forgot to clarify that. Sci\ART is the colour system that I follow, founded by the late Kathryn Kalisz. We never met but I believe Kathryn created the system in the late 90s and early 2000's. She was a brilliant artist and Munsell Master Colorist, highly skilled in colour classification with a great instinct for visual harmony and colour energy in humans. Like me, not a fashion person so much. Kathryn passed in 2010.

@@ChristineScaman I just looked it up and find it really fascinating. I’ve been interested in color analysis since I was first analyzed by a Color Me Beautiful trained consultant. An autumn I was and analyzed again in 2009 as an Autumn again. I love your approach because it emphasizes bringing out the true colors we were born with. We are taking a Tauck trip in August to Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Islands, etc and hope I get to meet you. Thanks for your brilliance!
