Oh, and could you explain how to tell the cooler greens, blues, and purples of the soft autumn pallet from the soft summer ones that look very similar? You explain things so well! I can always see the warm greens, peachy pinks, and shades of soft Autumn browns/tans easily, but the cooler side of the color wheel is harder to decipher between the two soft groups.

Not only it is great to learn what to buy but also what to avoid😅 I think in beige slide two upper items in the right row are closer to soft summer - light rosy beige and light moss. At least on my screen. Or maybe it's just next to warm autumn colours summer influence in soft autumn becomes more visible. Brown garment in the bottom looks like it could slide into warm spring palette as a great neutral. Though it's one of my worst seasons I enjoyed this video greatly. You have an ability to make this topic interesting (and I feel less crazy because of nerding out about such things). Thank you and waiting for the next one!

Glad you found the presentation helpful :) I agree about the items on the right of the line, it was almost impossible to place them in a Season from this image. I thought of Soft Autumn for the light green but having all those TA colours alongside made them hard to see.

Glad it was helpful :) I agree about stores, I can't tell you how many times I've thought a colour was one Season in a store and brought it home to find it was another. With colour colours, the palette comparisons are very helpful in the store. With neutrals, to this day, my highest chance of success is with having the actual fabrics pieces with me to compare under the same lighting. Practice and stores with daylight help a lot too.

It is fascinating to explore the color group that is my opposite. I am a Bright Winter. Learning to embrace contrast and brightness was key for me. Though the colors look terrible on me, the harmonious, solid energy of the autumn colors is so beautiful. The magic is toning down the color contrast and turning up the texture variety. Also, something clicked for me in this video. I could see a distinct vibration of the correct autumn colors versus the ones that weren't. Thank you Christine!
@ChristineScaman

Well said as ever :) I agree that texture is to A what contrast is to W. There are different types of both and they seem to lock together with their person. So interesting how you said 'different vibration' about the off-Season colours. I found them hard to see or understand, but like you (and many people, I hope), there was a feeling of too much support or not enough, without being able to pinpoint the specifics. Solid is a good word. Terrestrial, substantial. If there were a weight scale under the images, it would read consistent and steady in Season and tip with the other colours. Hard to put into words. As you said, vibration.

I think, I can be a true autumn. (But it depends on the system.) I need the darkness, the warmth and the mutedness. One color analyst gave me a muted autumn result, but in the end said I need warm autumn colors but a bit muted. l feel hers color palette is too greyish for me. Muted orange is like a neutral for me. I can wear warm autumn colors well, just not in triadic combinations. We are all originals and need more individual approach. Thank You for Your informative video!

A colour analyst working in a 12 Season system is the person who would identify your type of Autumn. It's not something people do on their own, or if they do, they may not understand why they're that Season. It helps to see it with your own face in the mirror. Once you know your Season, there are many ways of using the palette and other information to figure out your colours in stores and online, because you're so right, they look very different depending on lighting and the colours for the Autumn types are also quite different. My eye for colour was probably exactly the same as yours when I started. I use a system that works (called Sci\ART) and I've had 12 years to practice :) Your experience so far is a great place to start, should you decide to try a 12 Season analysis. You can find links to Global Directories in the Description Box.

Adding to my previous commentary. I would love to see a whole video about light beige/greige/ivory/cream. It's a fascinating and sometimes frustrating one for me. For example, H&M has a ton of neutrals in this range, often combined with some sort of black/off-black. They have all sorts of combinations from all the seasons like ivory&charcoal, cream&black, sand&black-brown, etc. I would be happy if you consider such type of video - these neutral colour combinations from seasonal harmony point of view. How to approach such out of palette or between the palettes apparel in a practical way. Some garments are a mystery for me, I tried them with all the seasons and nothing quite fits. Also looking at autumn olive I was wondering - would you include olive in "your best green" or "your best khaki"?
@ChristineScaman

I've been thinking about how to show neutrals lately. They're challenging to show on screens. I found them more meaningful mixed in with their colours as we saw in the Jewel Tones for Light Summer video. The effect of looking better together came across, I thought. A video with only the light neutrals, I'm not sure I could tell them apart myself, like the non-TA neutrals in this video. In the Whites image, I could vaguely guess at the off-Season items but honestly, I could barely see them. How would you feel about a "Your Best Black and White" topic? Black is another challenge with screens but at least it's visible. As for those cream and black combinations we see in stores, I have an impression that they don't take into account the person who will wear them. The person who will have a beautiful silhouette and overall proportions with black in the lower half won't do themselves any favours by wearing cream near the face. Greige possibly if they're a DA. Clear ivory if they're a BSp. On everyone else who wears ivory or soft white well, black looks heavy and wide. I figure it comes back to following our own palette and disregarding how retail combines colours. For SA olive, if you mean the colours in the neutrals strips, that might be khaki?

@@ChristineScamanSorry for the late reply, life got too busy. I've seen you've already done b&w videos so my answer would be irrelevant at this point. I wish I answered in time so you would know about +1 person anticipating your take on b&w topic and gladly waiting for another great video. One of the reasons I suggested garments with prints is because they would be more visible against background and in relation to each other as I've seen your explanations about challenges of doing "your best black/white" before and thought this idea might be helpful. "Black looks heavy and wide" - wow, I knew about "heavy" part and noticed it but "wide" is something new to grasp especially when black is considered universally slimming. About olive and khaki - I was thinking about any colour that might be considered olive or khaki regardless of the category (neutral or not). For me olive and khaki are almost interchangeable and I have difficulties to distinguish them. Also it might be related to linguistic and cultural differences.

Would love to see one of these neutral videos on Bright Spring, as I feel like this is one of the hardest seasons to find neutrals for that aren't too cool, warm, or muted. I've been searching for my neutrals in eyeshadows and makeup and am having a tough time.

A great suggestion, thank you, I've added it to the video requests. Neutral tones for BSp can be fairly easy to find in stores if we knew what to look for. Eyeshadows are challenging, I agree entirely. I often blend two colours to make a perfect neutral, and that's another step of challenge because the colours are outnumbered in retail by all the Autumn-influenced colours. It doesn't help that the eyeshadow palette for BSp is out of stock with the cosmetic manufacturer for my website, but you can purchase kits of 12 neutral colours, which may bring you closer to knowing what to look for.

Really informative video, thank you for sharing! The rust colors of the three seasons are very interesting. It would be great to read a similar article about Bright Spring and Dark Autumn comparison, especially their reds, greens and turquises - their ligthest and darkest colors, and their overall brightness. I cannot decide between this two season. My problem is basic autumn colors seem dull on me, but spring colors way too light next to my features. I prefer warm, medium-dark, but bright colors on myself, which could be Bright Spring or Dark Autumn either, so I really interested in the core differences of these subgroups.

Glad you enjoyed it, thank you. DA to BSp can be a challenging decision. When we see the palettes separately, they look hugely different, but certain colours can have similarities. In a video, I wonder if the colours would look so different that the reasons for the confusion, and how to solve it, would be less understandable. You may know already that you can find many images of palettes and apparel examples in the Pinterest boards. Also since last week, readers worldwide can purchase the e-books (30 page PDF) for each Season in the 12 BLUEPRINTS learning site. Both links in Description box, or please ask if I can help find them.

I wonder if there are online knitting groups that could help. I've often encountered knitters who look for wool in different Seasons and the challenge of colours seems to exist here as much as in clothing retail. It may help that Autumn has so many choices for light neutrals (I think of Fisherman's Knit sweaters) but you sound as though you're looking for a specific colour. Best of luck in the search, I wish I could of more help :)

I have a question unrelated to this video. I have seen another analyst on YT say that if someone compliments a color you are wearing, whether it is eye shadow, lipstick, or a piece of clothing, that color isn’t your color. That they should be saying that YOU look good and not the item or cosmetic. What is your opinion? I was draped BW by the system you use and it was also confirmed. Prior to my new colors I never really had compliments on my attire expect in black a few times. After my draping there were more than a few times I had been complimented on either lipstick and certain bright pink shades they thought it really brought me out. What do you think of those type of compliments? Also I have noticed that sometimes a person won’t want to tell you you look good but rather describe something you are wearing, maybe it feels safer? Thanks

I understand that type of comment, I've said the same thing myself, that if someone singled out my eyeliner or a blouse, it has stepped apart or in front of the rest of me. A makeup artist might look at eyeliner but nobody else does, they see a whole picture. If we look at ourselves like a painting rather than a collection of individual areas of colour, our presentation is more cohesive and meaningful. But compliments and feedback can be inspired by so many different reactions or emotions in the viewer, as you mention, that deciding those comments are entirely positive or negative is too general. The answer for me is to ask one or two more questions that allow them to give neutral, honest answers to help me understand where they're coming from. Questions like, "Thanks! What do you like about it ....?" I've tried on necklaces and asked the staff, "Are you looking at me or the necklace?" The same could be asked of lipstick. There's no right or wrong answer so they just say what they think. Simple honest feedback is priceless really but it asks more of the viewer or they might feel they're being unsupportive. The difference between kind and nice, right? About the cosmetics on the site, I doubt that I will expand into the products you mention. I try to bring in categories with colours for all 12 Seasons, barely available now with the standard categories. Colours are also d/c frequently and without advance warning, the most challenging aspect of working with this company, although the product they do offer is superb. Unless availability became more consistent and reliable, I wouldn't take on more inventory.

@@ChristineScaman well just got another compliment on my lipstick I really hope I was draped correctly lol
@ChristineScaman
@ChristineScaman 8 ай бұрын
You probably were correctly draped. There's no advice that applies equally to every person and situation, meaning people don't react or comment equally with eyeliner vs. lipstick vs. apparel. If eyeliner or blush were singled out, I might take another look at my choices because those are usually supposed to be under the viewer's radar (my opinion), but lipstick is normally noticed more. It's interesting to think about perceptions. Hair is another situation again. I group it with 'under the radar' unless the colour was obviously intended to be noticed. Sometimes, people offer positive comments because the colour or the cost or the effort is evident and it seems supportive to acknowledge that rather than say nothing. Quite easy to get off track. Next lipstick compliment, ask them what they liked or if they think it might be better toned down a touch, or anything that asks them to say one more thing safely.

As a side note, I have natural orange auburn hair and find that when I wear an orange or a copper, I look like just one boring solid piece of colour, almost like a background and my hair looks duller. My skin is peachy pink as well with that almost metallic quality you speak of for autumns. Its almost too neutral on me. I wear the whites, beiges, greys and browns shown above, extremely well. However, if I wear just these colours for the neutral look, it looks very lackluster as you mentioned. As seen, you 'autumn things up' by adding coppery golds and oranges in different textures on the neutral outfits slide. Is there another colour that I could accomplish this effect with instead? Should I go to reds and yellows as analogous warm colours to orange instead? What about orange yellows? My hair throws some orange yellow highlights naturally, so its there, but not as obvious as orange or orange reds in my hair. Also, do I then just avoid the orange and coppers all together you've shown above if its so close to my hair colour and gives me this effect? Thank you.
@ChristineScaman
@ChristineScaman 8 ай бұрын
Great questions! I understand how orange or copper can be 'almost too neutral' :) For adding other colours than gold and orange, once we have our palette, there's no wrong way to use it. I prefer diversity in appearance, because every colours adds it own kind of beauty. I showed neutral-ish accessories with the light outfits to stay with the request of all neutrals. If I were a TA though, I'd own items in every colour in my palette and wear them together. Warm landscapes have a multitude of colours and it looks gorgeous. These are not colour-minimalistic presentations. So yes, I'd be doing beige and brown with burnt rose, teal, dark olive, all of them really. I wouldn't avoid any colour in your palette. If your hair colour is your own, it will interact with what you wear in its own amazing way.
