Been playing guitar for 20 years and had no idea that these were so versatile. Thanks for the info!

This was a great video on tunings. Didn’t realize you could play lap steel with a telephone pole 😝

Hi nice video and playing . Can you please tell me the brand of the stand the lap steel are resting on at the beginning of the video . I would like mine to be able to stand straight up like that . Thank you and have a nice day .

Konig Meyer A-frame stand, still a little tricky to get them to stand upright though

I just bought the Vintage White off you guys at a great price. I have two questions. 1. Mine appears to have come tuned to Open G - G B D G B D (Dobro). Any chance I could tune to C6 - C E G A C E with the strings on it. 012, 016, 025, 034, 042, 052 (my measurements). I didn't realise there were so many tunings. It's a minefield. 2. I like to have spare strings on hand but can't find any on your web site listed under Lap Steel. Bearing in mind 4 of mine are wound. Any recommendations for tuning in C6, Open D, Open E?

hey Robert, congrats on the new lap steel! Ideal string tension is pretty subjective, so we'd recommend trying the tunings with the existing strings, you might find it to be fine. If the tension's not working for you, you're going to need to experiment to find your ideal strings to suit this wide range of tunings. There is a set of GHS strings designed for C6 lap steel tunings, we don't usually carry them, but can order them in specially for you if you want to try them. Give us a call or pop into your local store and ask to order in some GHS GLSC6 strings. 😃

I'm hearing all this and just wondering. Could you tune this to something like an open minor chord, distort it to hell and back, and make some mean doom metal? Might get one just to try that

Hello, I'm a beginner on the lap Steel....I've already purchased a Rogue but it has an annoying hum on the pick up.....will this Gretsch have a better Pick Up without the hum???
@MannysMusic_Online2 жыл бұрын
all instruments with single coil pickups will pickup interference from other electronic devices creating a hum, it's possible the Gretsch has better shielding, but we don't stock Rogue lap steels, so cannot say for certain if it will be an improvement. You could also try turning off any unnecessary lights and electronics to reduce interference.

@@MannysMusic_Online Thanks so much for your reply..it was very helpful....maybe I will consider a lap steel with a humbucker....can you steer me to a good choice....noise from the pickup is important to me.
@stevedulong Жыл бұрын
@@withoutpaper70656 Hi you can use a noise gate pedal that will cut the hum and it is cheaper than changing your lap steel

Good video - Fuzz don't work ... need a throaty tube amp distortion like a Mesa Boogie. Overall, though lots of good info - appreciated. Especially the tunings bit.

I just got the Gretsch 5715. I’m a noob. I’ve played guitar for years, but never this. Can anyone tell me, what would be the best Gauge strings to handle D and C6 tunings? I can say one thing. The first Lap Steel maker to strike a deal and make their benders standard on their steels will own the market. Same with Fender. Could you imagine if the tele came with the B-Bender the same way the Strat comes with the whammy?

hi ! question... can you tune the lapsteel in A6 and B11 both with the same set of strings ? (or do you need another set of strings for each tunings?)
@MannysMusic_Online Жыл бұрын
yeah Tom managed it without issue in this video, should be fine! In general with a shorter scale instrument and open tunings you definitely want to look at heavier guage strings for better string tension
@09Come Жыл бұрын
@@MannysMusic_Online thanks for your answer ! glad to know A6 and B11 are both possible with the same set of strings. Could you tell me which set of strings i need for that ? does the standard strings on the Gretsch G5700 work for that ? i think i'll buy one ! Thanks again

are you available for session work, I have a tune that is about going to Memphis to meet Elvis and try to get a gig in his show band playing steel guitar, and the guy has a plan to take his girlfriend with him as eye candy to get elvises attention, and then an audition.Its called, A long way to Memphis. Its in the key of Bb7, its bluesy and real Texas finger picking feel to it, with a 1 5 1 5 b7 1 train feel bass line. would love to hear you noodle to this tune all through this song, reminds a bit of a Junior Brown type song.
