Not really, the market cap is currently 10 billion, the most it will probably ever go to is 1 trillion and that would take at least 20 years, if you really wanted to make big money this isn't the way.

Awesome video! It's really well done and I like that it points out that paying these kinds of smart micro-transactions (like "smart charging" in the video) with traditional bank accounts is not really appropiate.
@fromtovine6 жыл бұрын
I am still a bit skeptic. there is way too big of a gap between now and the environment shown in the video. related the microtransactions, PayPal could send 0.01 of your currency, could apply PayPal on top of a clever management system to achieve the "automation". Also, with this environment, you still need to make sure you have currency in your car wallet to charge and vice versa, not so different with PayPal. And not to mention the infrastructure needed to power the concert from my car. Or what do you think?

There are a few smart charging projects going on around the world right now. Most that I know of are aggregating content (load and kWh) and trading it onto the wholesale grid markets. This is the current BAU for managed EV load traded onto the electric grids. I would like to see a head to head comparison using IOTA's tech or another to see if there really is an economic efficiency gain. I have been driving electric for five years. One problem the cost of electricity is so low and going lower that does it really make sense to spend a lot of money accounting for these nano transactions? My EV already gets info on when renewable energy is abundant. This videos scenario of the EV giving energy to the house is a decade old. Willet Kempton established that a decade ago. Does Iota add anything to the party? Doubtful, not in the scenario described in the video. The round trip efficiency loss going from windmill to battery storage in the EV to the house and the re cycling wear and tear on the batteries doesn't make the V2G scenario financially attractive. V2G As an emergency or resiliency measure yes, as BAU for a smart grid no. As an added level of UPS to a critical facility, maybe. The tangle folks need to hook up with grid folks to learn the appropriate applications that do make grid sense. Granted this is a 'Pop' or 'hype' video not intended for critical analysis. As such it is just that. I see that they are looking for co developers in different sectors including smart grid partners so that is good.

I've invested in IOTA. But I don't understand what's wrong with settling energy bills at the end of the month rather than on real time. Even if you have to do it real time, can't it be done through Fiat currency/banks? I don't clearly understand the vision they're trying to sell!

I'm invested in this too but I see so many people on different forums and videos talking about how there's no transaction fees when really they have not done their homework! Iota transactions use more energy to complete than normal so what you don't pay in fees will just cost you extra on your energy bill. But I do still love this project!
@iotafud70165 жыл бұрын
This is complete bull, it takes about 1 million transactions to equal 1 cent worth of energy, IOTA is one of the lowest energy costing cryptos out there.

Stop pretending there are no costs at all doing PoW to validate your own transactions. Just because it's much cheaper and efficient, doesn't mean it has no costs at all, that's just dumb. This kind of misleading advocating doesn't help.
@wlgrd70527 жыл бұрын
Celso Martinho then you need to tell me the actual cost, because apparently I'm misinformed. I agree with electricity, but what digital thing doesn't cost computing power?

(5 years later) aaaand the Iota-magic is gone. No adoption, no product, price/chart/volume dead. So many announcements, blogposts, buzzwords, partnerships, "soon!"s which all was mainly empty hype-hot air. Now you can buy one after another batch of weird NFT's and "stake" valueless tokens of the non-existing "Assembly"- and "Shimmer"-protocols. Awesome, that´s surely what "IoT" and "Industry 4.0" have been waited for. :p

most bitcoins lost a lot of their value after the Silk Road founder got arrested and site shut down. I remember clearly, it was around 300-400 a bitcoin then. I thought the value was essentially only because of Silk Road, and not that valuable anymore. Plus I was young and didn't have 300 to even think about while donating plasma. Now where do we see it.... not saying it's going to BTC values, but it hasn't even had a chance to fully be implemented. I mean, we are just now adding smart chargers to certain parts in major cities. Also, Internet of Things hasn't taken off for non tech crowd. As data from providers like facebook, google, become harder to get, IOT or IOTA data will be valued. If you have 1,000 or so bucks in this, leave it be. You'll make 1,000 elsewhere and some other time. Further, would encourage to diversify some between different IOT tokens/currency to lessen risk of just having one crypto in that sector.

@@gunthernakomotter4559 to help you deal with it mentally, I started using Waze in 2010 on my phone. Uber/Lyft in 2013/2014. There are certain people still today, that this year JUST FOUND OUT about Waze. If you bought one share of Apple stock in 2010, say at $245, held it through the split, got 7 shares and still held it, you'd have about 3,000. I know cryptos are much different, but tech people often forget how much they are ahead of the crowd. I mean, Chromecasting since 2014, streaming since 2010, and look at what Roku stock did last year once moms and dads found out about it.

You do realise that the problem was network congestion right? Too many people running through the same default nodes. Automatic peer detection resolves this (rolling out already) so as more users and nodes come online the speed will increase dramatically
