This machine can fit great for few specific 70s and 80s styles that implemented similar compact drum machines: Synthpop, Space Lounge, New Wave, Acid House, Chicago House, New Beat, IDM, downtempo. In post 1990 dance genres not so much, it sounds too soft and you can't do much effect processing due to mono output. Once you get it, think about doing snare mod, a minor modification that requires soldering one capacitor to board - it improves snare sound quite a lot.

Or a spring reverb pedal
@B1SCOOP2 жыл бұрын
@@t55a2 it's good, same thing with plate rev, tape echo and phasers. However I would process them more heavily on synth audio than drum machines (unless we're talking about Dub genre). It's also worth noting, analog mixed music wasn't as heavily soaked in eq's and effects as it is today with DAWs.

Had my KVB for a couple weeks now. Was making beats fresh out the box and I love it! There are a few downsides: 1) KVB ships with a manufacturing flaw that leads to a weak/distorted snare 2) There's no swing/shuffle (though you can input a swung pulse via the sync-n). 3) There's no stereo nor expressive controls (ability to pan/vary volume of hits would be a welcome addition to a MKii). 4) the absence of internal swing and the limitation of 1 bar/16 steps means the KVB is more Techno/House-oriented than hiphop. 5) Not enough save-slots for beats. 6) There's 16 steps so why only 10 sounds? (Hopefully a MKii will have 8 analog and 8 PCM sounds and 16 save slots).

I am not that euphoric, since, from what I heard, all devices are limited to loops of 1 bar lenght. So if you want to use them to stand alone without any additional hardware, they cannot replace an electribe. Surely, you may program beats in double time and half the loops bpm, but this will limit you to 8th notes, and two bars arent that great either. So I really hope they will at least add some kind of pattern chaining function, so that you can loop more than one pattern.

Jade Wii There's a useful mod for the Volca Beats that separates the audio streams for each part, which would really help for mixing the output. And a mod for the Volca Bass that gives you individual control of the oscillators' level (the default maxed out levels are too chunky for my taste.) I plan on modding the heck out of my volcas eventually. They have easy soldering points and guide text. I think they can be expanded to be even more useful than they already are. :)
@ronnieperez76509 жыл бұрын
Jade Wii Same here. The Lowpass filter bypass and snare/hat mods for the Volca Beats sound amazing. I sort of like the crappy sound of the snare/hat as it is. It's really peculiar, but, I do prefer the tone of the modded version. I think the guy in the video was right about the snare/hat noise.. he said it looks like they made a mistake with the resistance (it may have been a mistake that they only realized when it was already in production and decided to commit to it.) A+ lol
