It's kinda cute how you pronounce "Rammstein" and "Du hast" ^^ The trick about this song is, that literal translation looses too much... "Du hast mich" = "you have me", but a German would understand "Du hasst mich" = "You hate me" which has the same pronunciation :) Greetings from Germany, keep listening to Rammstein 🤘🤘

That's one meaning. The so-called homophone strikes again. Homophone is a word with a different spelling and meaning but sounding identical to another. German allows the grammatical structure of a sentence to add on objects at the end, instead of English requiring a restructuring of the sentence. In German the verb "haben" = "to have", whereas "hassen" = "to hate". In the second person singular declination they are "du hast"= "you have", whereas "du hasst" = "you hate". They sound identical, so the rest of the sentence is required for context to clearly define the meaning. "Du hast mich" = "you have me"; "Du hasst mich"="you hate me". The meaning only gets clearly defined when the actual final verb "fragen" = "to ask" gets added in its second person singular, past perfect, of "du hast mich gefragt". Unfortunately that doesn't work in the English grammatical structure. It would be "You have asked me", whereas the English words in the German grammatical structure would be "you have me asked". Yes, yes, I know that's not how it works. It was only a demonstration of how it works in German. Until that point the meaning of the whole phrase was ambiguous. It was answered with "und ich hab nichts gesagt!" = "And I didn't say anything!" As you may have guessed if you checked the English translation of the lyrics that this is a spoof on the traditional wedding vows asked by a priest which are normally answered by a clear yes, whereas Rammstein answer each such vow with a resounding NO! in the chorus.
