The band said in their making of the video video that it incorporates their various interpretations of childhood nightmares. Kruspe said he often thought of the night monsters as stealing the tears of children and injecting them into their veins (demons) to get more power. It actually took two different directors to get the video done. The first set of recordings didn’t capture the music in true Rammstein heart so they got together in the summer of the following year with a different director and recorded a lot of the darker images like them playing cello, the older woman, the band looking like unkempt crazy men. It’s supposed to tell a story of them as young children and as they grew up the nightmares still haunted and followed them.

Well.. as a German metalhead I gotta love Rammstein. The last time I saw them live was in 2019. They always are amazing. Nothing beats their pyro. The singer has a solo project now that's worth checking out, e.g. Lindemann - Ich hasse Kinder.

This song is about child abuse. "Now, little kids be aware, I am the voice from the pillow ... I come to you during the night. I am around till daylight breaks ... " - that's referring to child abuse happening during nighttime mostly. The young lady is the old lady that tries to protect the kids from him. Like when she did underneath her wide skirt. But she was too weak, couldn't stop him. Cause no-one can when those "creatures" are after kids. Eventually, they will always get what they want. That is what's the video and the song is all about. - Greetings from Germany

Listen to the piano version with Till. his voice is awesome. The song becomes even more intense when you know the story behind it. It's about a children's home where the children were abused and had nightmares. The piano does not play Flake, but Sven Helbig, a German composer and pianist.

The song and video is a metaphor about nightmares and fears. The text deals with the essence of fear, personified as a creature that injects the tears of children into its veins. Actually it is a dead body, but the fear of the people makes his "heart burn" so it brings it to life. The video goes in a similar direction. The orphanage with the imprisoned children is a metaphor for the people's fears. Everbody is in some way trapped by his own fears. The children grow up, but these are the same fears that haunt them as adults. Only in the end when the prisoners face their fears, do they succeed in escaping their prison. In the end, they can defeat Till and rob him of his power, who embodies the essence of fear in the video.

I think this should be the bad version of the sandman. In Germany there is "Der Sandmann" for kids. The sandman brings each evening a short fairy tale to the kids. In the earlier versions of the sandman, a lector was telling at the beginning "Nun liebe kinder, gebt fine Acht. Ich habe euch was mitgebracht." - "Now dear children, take fine care. I have brought you something. ". Rammstein took the first sentence from this show.
