I love the idea of a simple, short game that's so small you can carry it around with you with no problem whatsoever. Thinking about getting the digital version, so thanks for introducing me to it! I've been meaning to get Don't Look Back by BlackSite for some time, so I think I'll have to take a look at all their other games as well. The only thing I'm not too sure about Demon Ship is the single player aspect of it, but I guess I'll have to try it out. I've honestly never played a single player board game... though I do prefer single player videogames to multiplayer ones 😅

@@wittlegoblin I've been pondering the same thing, as there's a _lot_ of discussion on the topic when it comes to solo RPGs. We're fine with other types of entertainment being enjoyed alone (TV, movies, reading, listening to music), we're OK with other forms of creative expression solo (painting, writing, composing music etc.) and even if role-playing is "performance" we see nothing wrong with, say, playing an instrument for one's own enjoyment even if there is no audience. So why is solo gaming looked upon as something strange, sad, or lonely?

I love board games, but none of my friends are into it so I had been looking up some solo games online and came across your video. What a treat this was! The game looks great, the video was concise yet in-depth enough that I understood the game, and you did it all with a great sense of humour (same for your Token Terrors video). And you love Alien, which is my favourite franchise, so... subscribed! PS: I'd love to see you cover more solo board games in the future, if at all possible :)

I've always been somewhat intimidated by tabletop wargaming (complex rules tend to scare me away and most people I know aren't interested in trying it out), but this solo microgame looks right up my alley! I like the idea of the player having to keep track of their pulse instead of hitpoints. It reminds me of an old dungeon crawling computer game called Dungeons of Daggorath, where moving and taking "hits" by monsters would increase the player's heartbeat and waiting in one place would slow it down. It was anxiety-inducing in a good way as you'd be forced to regulate your heartbeat and make split-second decisions on whether to keep pushing forward or flee from danger, hopefully without your heart giving out in the process.

I’m with you as far as rules go, I can only really learn by actually playing, because just reading the rules tend to get jumbled. I’m glad demonship resonates with you! This is the kind of game you can pack up with you when you go on vacation, or when you have to travel for work, etc. but still want to maybe get a game in here and there. I love it's compact, self contained nature, but also that it allows for personal customization. It's just a cool little game with really nice components. I've gotten more into indie games and small press games, both for RPGs and miniature games, in the last few years. Recently picked up Mothership and a few supplements for it. Looking forward to running a good old sci-fi horror game ala Alien/Event Horizon.

This reminds me of Space Hulk in the best ways. DEMONSHIP seems more "Aliens" than DOOM and you're Ridley, smart and trying to survive, while Space Hulk is more DOOM than "Aliens" and your space marines are prepared(almost). Also, that's a lot of cool accessories, even the pre-painted terrain for the painting averse gamers!

Hi! I'll chime in here, but I hope Witty does too. Blacksite Studios and I brought out Demon Ship at Adepticon 2023, on a limited pre-order. We just fufilled that limited pre order on the terrain kits and now we're going to full launch the game on the 24th! We sent Witty a kit with the preorder waves to talk about the game on the channel. But otherwise, she's been integral to the game! I have more information on my patreon (free posts) where you can learn more BTS stuff about Demon Ship. 🙌

I can imagine using this as a sort of prequel to a character for 24xx: Breach (or my version, which uses Event Horizon as the lore background). You're a crew or passenger of a Helljumper that exited the Hellscape (what WH40k peeps call... The Warp) with an infestation and now you have to find a way to get off. And now you have a deeper lore to build your 24xx: Breach character!

It leans into a DIY aspect, and the core book comes with components to let you play, or craft your own components without needing to purchase the MDF kit. You will need both if you want to jump right into playing full 3d terrain though.

Also, the terrain and the box are the same. The game fits inside the base! So the little yellow slide that says 'demon ship' on it is on the bottom when it's set up to play.
