Good topic Nathan. We like to ensure the new song is in our pre-service walk-in music loop. It allows people to hear it for several weeks prior to us singing it as a team. We’ll also ensure that it’s playing as people are leaving. Finally, on the day we sing it, we start with a “teaching moment”. The lead vocalist teaches the chorus of the song, we sing it several times with a piano and pad, lyrics on screen, and simple instrumentation. We sing the chorus several times and then we take off with the verses. Hope this helps!

Great tips! We also add the new songs to the pre service music.

I did the same with a few songs that I assumed the congregation knew since they were common hymns but they didn't know how to sing. (What Wonderous Love is This) Played it a few times on preservice videos and then we sang it. It worked.

Wow, great, the "communion" way. As for me and my church assembly, we introduce new songs mostly during weddings, Easter, Christmas & NYE services and our churches family conference, as these are a kind of celebration moments, more than weekly services

First up, these days, we introduce the video clip during midweek zoom homegroup (& get feedback). Then down the line at church, we sing the first verse then ask ppl to listen and join in gradually as they feel comfortable.

Were you at the Sing conference? They kinda went over this topic briefly yesterday. Anyway, at what point in the gathering do you take communion? For us, it's near the end, and since people are ready to respond to the sermon and the supper, it's not the best time to confuse people with a brand new song. In that immediately pre-communion time slot, I like to play through the melody of a song about the cross/atonement that we sang earlier that day to help people focus on the ordinance at hand. But if there's a new song to teach, I'll usually take advantage of the pass-the-offering minute right before we sing together and play through the melody so that it's the last thing people hear before they try to sing it. Truth be told, I'm kind of stingy about new songs because I like to give a song plenty of time to prove itself before I ask everyone to sing it. So, by the time I "introduce" everyone to a "new" song, half the people already know it and they're usually thinking something along the lines of, "Finally! I've been requesting this one for years..."

We do communion near the end too. I think the offering idea is great, kind of a song primer right before you sing it. When it comes to new songs, I think stingy is ok. I was not at the sing conference

I'll introduce new songs by posting the lyrics and video of the song on our church's private social media platform the week prior. This way they can familiarize themselves with a melody and read the lyrics to be sung.

I keep trying to introduce the metal version of How Great Thou Art by Becoming the Archetype in our traditional style worship. I think I am the only one enjoying it. ha

I don't find heavy metal "Christian" music to promote peace, joy, love, kindness, meekness... so I couldn't handle it either. That would be hard for me to get people in church with and keep them if they truly want to learn and serve Christ. If you can do it please share the secret on how it's done.
