No shit, I just finished my own VST to sort notes by pitch in different midi channels. And just a day later, bitwig comes around with Note Grid and renders my VST obsolete. :D Well, at least the experience programming this was awesome. I'm stoked to play around with 4.2 in a few hours.

YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Thank you bitwig! Will it be possible to handle note durations? I didn't notice anything about how note off is handled. This will be very relevant when using note grid output to trigger devices with a release envelope. Would the down edge on a pulse signal connected to the note out gate input trigger a note off? Also, can we get a tidal module in the next update that will trigger notes based on tidalcycles pattern expressions? j/k but this would be pretty cool IMO

@gravity00x2 жыл бұрын
because this daw is dogsgeet and lacks the most basic fundamentals. the devs rather add nonsense experimental garbage that serves the rando hobbyist rather than adding basic functionality so that people can actually make music and use the peogramm in a professional environment. dont get me wrong, polygrid etc are amazing but thats beyond the point. polygrid is not a daw. and the daw has not seen any reasonably good updates in a decade almost. just let me ask you, where is the collab over the internet feature that they advertised bitwig with in the first place? anyone seen it? there are so so many simple features that people need and if you go to the feature requesty forums you will find tonedeaf developers and a very upset and rather sad community.
@McGyver0082 жыл бұрын
Funny. A bunch of information is missing completely. Where's a hint, that - in case I set Note Grid to 12 voices (the default setting) - each voice is using a separate pitch signal and ... how can I access the signals (because... if the orange pitch cords work with voice-individual values, the Grid devices perhaps make it similar with other values, too....?!? I could imagine, that there are multiple yellow (logical) signals available (one per voice), or perhaps all native equal colored cords (the original "native" colors: Yellow - Logical signals, Orange - Pitch signals, (Red - bipolar multi-purpose signals - unlikely, but... who knows....?), Light Blue - control signals like untyped Envelope Out or untyped LFO Signal out, or even purple for Phase Signals.... ?!?!? Interestingly orange cords necessarily are not only one cord, if the Grid is set to multiple voices, because orange cords can only contain positive float numbers in a fixed range (corresponding to the fixed pitch range inside the Grid), so how is it possible, that in the initial 12-voice-patch up to 12 notes can pass simultaneously one orange cord from Note In to Note Out - except there are 11 "hidden" cords ) one cord - (or variable) per voice, where each cord "transports" one pitch-value from In to Out ?!?!?!? Another question: Why the heck is there no concept to access such signals (which would be essential to build for instance an arpeggiator for arbitrary note sequences or even selections of notes from a "playing" chord? This is a question in general: Several times I guess, that some concepts inside Bitwig Studio are not really thoroughly thought, or in other words: Some existing concepts make a user think, someone wanted to solve a task, but halfway to the target he gave up searching.... Why? I don't know your attitudes, but ... in my job (technically based) I found, that one perhaps should go a way to its end instead of leaving partly realized concepts. Often this leads to complications in the future, sometimes even inconsistencies which overcomplicate future concepts. And.... sorry for that: I guess, several "solutions" in the Grid are such "dead ends", some of them even very basic concepts. Although this is criticism I hope you read it as "suggestion" for your work. All in all Bitwig Studio is very versatile and of course nothing will ever be perfect, but... as said: At least the seemingly partly solutions would really be m u c h more fun if realized much more thoroughly as they are at the moment. Good luck and keep up the good work.... To the "fans": This is not directed to you! It is NOT your task to judge my statements. You can work like you want - everyone does this anyway. And ... it is not new to me, that mainstream drilled people hate criticism, as they tend to imagine, that comments always must be a smooth talking without any improvement suggestion. Your mainstream dressage is extremely strong, I must admit... Realize, that any improvement suggested by users accelerates development often significantly and leads to solutions, which otherwise would need much longer to be realized (if at all). So instead of praising something to the skies it would help a developer much more to get concrete hints how and where to change things for better solutions in practice.
