I love watching this kind of content. As someone with 1000s of hours in poe and loves teaching people new experiences, I understand a lot of what you're explaining to her, but i do feel like you go into far too many advanced details sometimes, even in other teaching videos. For example, the horizon orb explanation was far above her head, no offense meant to her. You could have simply said something to the effect of... "Horizon orbs let you change a map to different map of the same tier. it can be a bit more complicated later on, but while you're unlocking your atlas that's all you need to know" and that would have been sufficient for her, I feel.

@Zizaran or actualy anyone... just a correction, regarding the master map missions, the tier/grade (white, yellow, red) of a mission you complete as the last in the server/game day (a.k.a. prior to UK midnight) will determine what kind of a mission you will receive the next day. So even if you have red tier maps unlocked, but you run a white tier mission map as the last one prior to server "day" reset, the next day you will receive a set of white tier maps. So, that said, you do not get automaticaly always red tier map mission set, only as long you run a red tier mission as the last for the day. /cheers

I know people like to give streamers stuff, but holy hell do people need to calm down. Gifting a brand new player headhunter shows a distinct lack of critical thinking skills. You don't give a brand new driver a Ferrari because they don't know what to do with it. Same applies here. Learning the game and building gear is a core part of the experience. Imagine just logging in and having everything you needed. There would be nothing to do, just like D4

I have been absolutely hooked on "ex-Diablo player tries PoE" or just general "completely new to PoE!" playthroughs over the last month or so, I don't know why they got so popular but it seems a lot of content creators noticed how much of a viewer boost it gave them so it created an influx of videos which I've been binging. They're insanely fun to watch because it really takes you back to when you were first learning the game except cranked up to an 11 because of all the years of mechanics. I've heard NyxVellum say that he saw an uptick in these videos after his initial "first time PoE" video popped off 2-3 months ago with over half a million views whereas he normally sits in the 4 or low 5 digits in view count.

Sometimes ziz goes waaaaaaay to fast. He uses so many terms like he throws ‘regal’ or ‘scour an item’ around in his explanations but it can’t make sense if people don’t know what that is. Instead he should be replacing those terms with plain English words saying what they do.I feel he is too knowledgeable to properly explain stuff to newer players nowadays. He can’t put himself back on these shoes.
@Jiggerjaw
@Jiggerjaw Жыл бұрын
He's one of the best content creators for catering to new players. But in those videos he plans out the explanations and does multiple takes to make sure everything is digestible and clear. This being a more casual conversation, I think he is figuring she will stop him for clarifications if he's going to fast.

This is awesome that you're teaching new players. I just hate that she was spoiled with tons of good items, a new player shouldn't just be able to be OP because someone gave them a ton of items, it kind of gets rid of the progression, leads to you playing for a week with your mageblood and going "this game is complicated, but everything dies in one hit and I can't die, why should I engage with any of it?" and quitting. Hopefully that doesn't happen to her, as it's always awesome to have more people enjoying the game :)

I think it's ok in a certain amount. Now that they see how fun the game can be, they will look past over what's the hardest thing in the game and learn in as fast as possible so they can get that fun feeling again. But now, they want to do it by themselves and feel that progression. Not me tho, i want to suffer.

Always love new PoE players getting into it. Love that you're offering up so much help with this Ziz. If I may offer some feedback though. You are falling into the same trap a lot of people fall into when teaching someone about something they know a lot about and that's to info dump WAY too much. As an autistic person who does do a fair bit of info dumping and seeing people's eye's glaze over more than I care to admit, I've learned to recognize it and especially in this video you do it a lot. You go off on whole tangents that are pretty much irrelevant for Rachel's current level of understanding. You can audibly tell that stuff like the crafting tangent etc are entirely complex for her currently. In this situations it's key to really listen to their question and try to answer their question as simply as possible. In the example of the crafting tangent her question was "why are divine orbs and chaos orbs wanted in SSF?". The answer is: "Because we use it for advanced crafting." (notice the full stop at the end of that sentence). After that answer you can ask the person if they want to know more about the advanced crafting or not and based on that go into the topic. Like I said, I completely understand the desire to do this as you know so much and you're so enthusiastic and want to share, but I've found that the best way to get people to care or understand about your knowledge, it's to make sure you pace it at a speed their brains can process and absorb the info. Also, what I personally tend to do when I meet someone new and I'm about to teach them is to try and figure out where they are and what they know already. It's difficult to figure out sometimes, but maybe questions like "what do you think is the biggest AHA moment you had in this game?", etc.

you are usually strong enough at acts end to do level 1-2 maps so i usually just run through them gathering yellows of my type. If youre slow you can usually buy cluster jewels off people who have been farming for days at that point and that usually adds 50%-200% damage depending on how many you add. My 1 set of a large and 2 medium clusters is 35% of my total damage only because POB cant figure out how to made distance add damage. My mid ranged scepters add less each and the clusters cost me 15c total and like 1800 alts to craft

the whole thing about start a new character if you get stuck makes little sense to me. You get about 20 respec points from the campaign alone, other gems can be levelled in the weapon swap set and the spell gems bought in act 1 as an example come with experience points/levels already on them. So, to go from borked to working should not be an issue, despite having a cost.

It was a disservice to give a new player those items. I am happy she is trying to learn the game mechanics now. Most people would enjoy the items for a day and then quit.

There is another much smaller youtuber NyxVellum that started playing poe recently and i know he would love to do a similar video where he could get a few questions answered and some tips. If you could spare some time for him it would be awesome!

This is great content! But Ziz sidetracks a lot during basics like going from travel nodes to annoints was really unneccesary information at that time. Well, people with great knowladge are not always the best educators but its still great help for the new people.

@Zizaran Whakawairua Tuahu is pronounced fah-kah-why-roo-ah too-ah-who. WH is pronounced F. All vowel sounds are the same A-E-I-O-U is ah-eh-ee-aw-oo. Pronouncing Maori words is simply a case of sounding out the syllables.

I’ll put it this way… I’m a recent Poe convert who travels for work… I’m now considering buying a gaming laptop so I can play on the road 😂. Can I get by with a 4050 graphics card ? Was considering the Asus ROG strix G16 … would that be able to handle Poe 1 and 2 well ? It’s a G on Newegg… trying to stay under $1500 if anyone has any recommendations… I’m a PS5 guy so out of my element.

That will be more than good enough for PoE 1, should be fine for PoE 2.

poe community is very two faced with new players, but it's simple, if you ask "how do I do X" you'll have a ton of people helping, if you ask "can you do X for me" you'll get mocked.

see, thats the problem, when Ziz showed craft of exile part with ring i, as a new player, understood it, like, 78% of it, but its not because he did great job of explaining. its just because i have a friend of mine, who helped me craft my +2 minion helmet through delve craft and such. step by step with discord screen sharing and explanations. in other cases i wouldnt understand anything :) thats the problem, even with "more beginner friendly" guides with pobs with crafting notes, like big duck srs, which i started league with (first time playing minions, 2nd time ever played poe)

Also, there's no rush to "get good fast". A friend of mine started PoE in Kalandra League and I tried to be helpful wit giving little tips, helping with gearing and concepts like layering defences scaling damage. The problem was he started with a necromancer and I am not a minion player. So I did what I could but ended up linking a few Ghazzy guides to him. He watched a few videos, got absolutely inspired by some helmet craft video and asked me "how do you get rich in this game, I wanna do that". I thought that's quite alot for anew player. So I taught him some strats, instructed him to like focus on one thing at a time to be efficient. Like if you want to run maps and farm, roll maps in advance, don't trade while mapping, don't idle in the hideout, just blast and have a separate trading session afterwards or maybe the next day or something. But then he blasted maps and got quite a lot to sell so he wanted to know how to trade more efficiently. So we went through tools and TFT and a lot of things. And he fucking did it, crafted all his rares, killed most of the bosses, was absolutely burned out in the end and decided he will not do another league. So the combination of him wanting to do everything optimally from the start and I enabling him kinda too much overwhelmed him and made it so he felt like there's no point in going through all of that again. Like, I don't even do most of the stuff I taught him because I have over 10K hours in and I can't be arsed to try very hard anymore. So I didn't understand how absolutely atrocious of a learning curve you need to go through if you want all the knowledge at once. I've spent 10 years and there's still stuff I haven't done and he basically brute forced through 90% of PoE content with his first character which is quite a lot to do while working 8h a day :D I know it's a wall-of-text with a lot of unrelated stuff but just take it slow and steady and remember to play other games too. PoE is so massive it can consume a life pretty much the same way MMORPGS like WoW and FFXIV can. There's no hurry, there will always be next league :)

I feel like every time a PoE content creator starts to teach other people PoE they get bogged down in random things like vendor recipies or niche things instead of explaining the basics of items, characters, offense and defence. Saw the exact same thing with Ghazzy trying to teach DarthMicro
