When a system fails, what are the dynamic outcomes? My take is that a sociotechnical system will split to create new systems, but I wonder if that's what plays out. Also, should I expect breakdown to order (or breakdown to disorder and a restructuring duration)?

@@apophenomenon it depends what you mean by failure. Social-technical systems are large systems that usually provide a range of services. When one service ‘fails’, others may be able to continue as normal. So, failure depends on the observer. Of course, there can be catastrophic whole system failure, such as a large-scale cyberattack, but a well-designed system should have (but sadly often don’t) recovery mechanisms to get at least some services operational fairly quickly.
