Are you working with a child who does not play with toys, participate in therapy activities, and who has a very short attention span? Today I want to introduce you to a treatment method I've found to successfully improve attention, participation, and task completion for many kids who are on the autism spectrum or with characteristics of ASD. Join pediatric speech-language pathologist Laura Mize, M.S., CCC-SLP of teachmetotalk.com for this one-hour audio/video podcast episode in The Autism Podcast Series as she explains how structured teaching can help young children with autism "learn how to learn."

I loved how she pinned in on how too much talking can make a kid over stimulated. I look forward to watching the rest of the Autism episodes since my son has Autism and beginning the structural teaching methods used in this video.

Thank you for reminding me us to be quiet because we sometimes forget that we can overwhelm a child who has to deal with so many stimuli already. We sometimes think we can teach by talking so much so it’s good to remember to be quiet.

Thank you so much for all this free information. The tip about not talking too much and staying quiet really struck me. I been asking myself this since my older boy was 2+ he hated hearing conversation and he didnt want me talking too much. I asked myself and many people this and i got my answer now. Although i already did this by instinct and stopped talking too much and my boy has alot more receptive language but i felt guilty that i wasnt talking to him. Now i know i did the right thing. I am saving for your courses but now the free information is way more than enough. Really thank you so much.

Great video with detailed explanation- I love your videos but would love to have bite sized versions to share with parents. I know most parents haven't got the time to listen to long videos but would really appreciate a five minute video with some of the strategies modelled👍 thanks

Also when moving from one toy to the next I suggest a treat after they complete each one. I plan on using jelly beans since he loves them and rarely eats them.
