I can’t tell you how grateful I am to have you back on You Tube! I hope you and your family enjoyed the holidays and are staying healthy.💜 My daughter is in the process of scheduling the first Speech Therapy eval for my granddaughter. My husband and I are following your videos and implementing everything we possibly can to help our precious little one. We are fortunate to live 5 min away and to be providing daycare for her. She is loved beyond measure, 20 mo old with no expressive language. We are seeing progress every day and many signs of receptive language, which gives us hope! I’ve been using the extra large ziplock bags for many of her toys since I began watching your videos. It forces her to engage with us, as we must open them and remove the pieces. She now loves to take one alphabet card out at a time, we talk about each one! Before using the bags she didn’t like reciprocal play, she now loves to involve us in each activity! Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for our family! God Bless!🥰

We are finally getting our 3 year old tested for asd and spd. We tried doing speech therapy in our area but the one our doctor sent us to was still wearing mask and the area for teaching was horrific and not inviting for kids to want to play or do any type of therapy. I am so thankful for your videos, and some others and brainworx where I’ve been able to really meet my child where he is at and seeing some great developmental leaps within the past couple of months.

My daughter turns 3 on Sunday. She started tele-therapy for speech and OT after she turned 2. OT was to help build her focus and attention span, she would never sit for more than a few seconds. She finished OT after 6 months. Her speech has come very far too. She had approx 5 functional words when she was 2 and now has more than I can count. Currently we are working on her expressive speech. Also I am now aware she is a sensory seeker - loves to swing, jump, bounce, skip, etc. Anyway her play has always been on point, pretend play, and properly playing with toys. Sorry, this was a long winded way to get to this question- what’s your opinion on the social piece in these times that we are living in? She always loved being around kids but the last few months she seems very shy around others. She was around her cousins who are about her age and she just played with her cousins toys and not with them. Usually she would like playing with any kids if they were a stranger or not, but in these times where kids aren’t around others as much because of covid, when should we worry? She does play with people she’s familiar with- me, my husband, my mother in law.

Are there any of these video/podcasts you'd consider the go to must watches for a family whose 3 year old daughter hits nearly all of the red flags (still doesn't react to her name, can say complex sounds and sentences through echoing what we say to her but doesn't seem to understand all but a handful of basic words, etc.) but who live in an area where the assessment wait times are so bad that the soonest assessment we can get currently won't be until she's 5 unless a spot opens up? Everything I'm hearing is early intervention is so important, but every intervention place tells me they can't accept her till she has an assessment, but don't think they can get her in for an assessment for years because of their waiting list being so backed up which might be the most stress inducing I've ever experienced in my life, being constantly told my daughter is being poisoned and needs the antidote immediately or the damage will be irreversible... but even though I'm willing to go into debt and pay whatever costs it takes to get her said antidote, being told it'll be years before they can get around to giving her said antidote... Anyway, what I'm loving so far about these videos is it seems like sprinkled through out are some tips for how a parent can apply some essential intervention techniques while they wait for their assessment date, but I'd love if there were a couple videos which just specifically outlined "here's a list some things you can do to help your child if they are autistic". I'm sure we won't be as effective as a professional, but since the professionals won't see us I'll take whatever I can get to try to help my daughter before its too late...

I purchased your Autism Workbook for my 3 year old son a couple of months ago and it has been a great help! I have been focusing on step 1 and 2. I think we are ready to move on but I want to be sure we have mastered these areas first.

Hi Afrika! You are doing the right thing by working on those first 2 focus areas. If he's regularly interacting with you during social games (focus 2) then you're totally ready to move to Focus 3 with Joint Attention and Turn Taking. If he's not playing with a variety of toys correctly, then look at Focus Area 4 for ideas for helping him move his play skills along. Thanks so much for watching and buying the book! I am glad it's been helpful for you! Laura

Do these kids ever catch up? I understand it's different for every kid but do they generally have some improvement? It's just the hardest thing to see your kid so behind.. and so heartbreaking to worry about them ever being safe sufficient and safe without the parents..

Can you touch on some of the effects mask wearing could be having on autistic children or those on the spectrum. It seems they are having a hard time not only wearing mask but also interacting with family and friends who are wearing them.

Or speech therapists wearing cloth masked instead clear ones so kids can see their mouth when talking.

My son is 27 months and has more receptive language than words although those are getting better but sometimes hard to understand. He is in speech and they seem to think he does not have autism and it’s a true language delay. All he wants to do is pretend play and make us play pretend with him. He is not interested in playing by himself for more than ten mins. He does have an issue with hitting when excited or bored is this an indicator for autism?
