Introducing the "Agile Friction Hitch", a novel Friction Hitch, also referred to as the "Agile Hitch". Similar to the Prussik, Klemheist, Autoblock, Hedden and Bachman friction hitches, all of which are tied with a loop (Prusik Loop), the Agile Hitch is also tied with a loop, but is easier to break under load and easier to advance in climbing. When used in rope climbing applications (similar to the JRB Ascender Hitch), it can be used as a substitute for a mechanical ascender or primary friction device. The hitch incorporates the optional (but recommended) use of a carabiner as a handle. The carabiner receives no load except that which can be exerted by the force of one hand, and as such, the type and size of the carabiner can be less substantial than one used in life support.
