Can I use the Ethernet or the built-in WiFi for live streaming to KZbin Live or for direct uploading of the videos to KZbin from the hotel room without using a laptop? And if it can live-stream to KZbin Live over Ethernet/WiFi, can I mix in other angles from any other camera (even smartphone camera) within the KZbin Live web based or app based system? Or I guess might be even cooler if Wi-Fi direct from smartphones or from any other WiFi enabled cameras, or a laptop screencast, perhaps second/third XF400 can feed in multi-camera angles that I can tap and choose on the XF400 LCD viewfinder or its realtime WiFi web based viewfinder controller perhaps on my laptop while live-streaming the output (if possible in 4K60) to KZbin Live over Ethernet.. Can I chose if both XLR channels are merged into stereo and not necessarily recording to different channels left and right if I don't want to post produce audio levels but just have a usable footage directly? I'd like to mini jack to XLR adapt my Sennheiser MKE440 stereo shotgun to one XLR input (it supports stereo?) and my Saramonic UWMIC9 dual lav receiver on the other XLR input, can I install a second cold shoe for my UWMIC9 receiver instead of that side shotgun mount?

Is there any news when will canon put out new camcorder but with iris and zoom ring like xf300? Considered buying this for travel docs, but it just has too many downsides. Canon has two replies regarding changing frequency. First one is that options are available in the menu and second one is that you need to pay/install it at service center, so which one is it? If anyone can shed some light I appreciate it.

receptxful I really don't see the problem going down to one ring. The zoom rocker has always been more convenient for me, or using a lanc controller is easier and gives less risk of "bumping" the camera going in to make an adjustment. There is a little knob below the ring you can assign to iris which works great. Focus can be adjusted via touchscreen which is quicker and more accurate in my opinion.

Finally Canon catched up on 4K60p. Still won't use HEVC codec though. And the max bitrate is 150 Mbps for 4K60p.

Hi Kutay! The system frequency that is installed in the camcorder, whether that be 59.94 Hz or 50.00 Hz, will be the one for the region/country where it is purchased. Both can be installed, but this is a pay-for as-needed service upgrade. We hope this helps!

is this Bit Depth: 8 bit @ 3840x2160. ...good enough ? how is this compared with other 4k camcorders. Is it , 10 bit @1920x1080 (full HD) better ? I temp to believe that 4k images are better but, is this difference mean Full HD images have better clarity and colour ? or 4k is all about frame size ?

Hi there. 8-bit 4K UHD is great and more than enough for most applications. Having the higher resolution gives you a lot of room to work with too. It is true that 10-bit can provide more color information, but you may often only find that useful if you are heavily processing the video in post. We hope this helps!

Good day. I bought an XF400 camera. The purchase was preceded by tests on the inserts. After starting work with the camera on a tripod shoulder rig, it turned out that the image stabilization turned off during recording. It can not be re-enabled. I presented my attention in the store with the presence of a surprised sales representative, Canon Poland. we tested the other cameras in this store and they have the same phenomenon. There is an error in the camera software in the section of the zyroskop, accelerometer and stabilization executive system. The defect is in every mode: Dynamic, Normal, Power. You can quickly notice by putting the camera with active stabilization on the table. After 3 seconds, the stabilization will turn off, and its restart requires a camera shake. In the case of filming with the shoulder string, the picture is jerked, which excludes qualitatively recorded material. In order for stabilization to work again for a few seconds, you have to make a half turn of the body. You can not film with this disadvantage. Can you update the software, the firmware code line, so that stabilization does not turn off with minimal shocks? Unfortunately, I had to return the store to the store and order a refund. greetings Sample test IS @ It results from tests with all cameras XF400, XF405, and maybe GX10 have a manufacturing defect in the stabilization sensitivity system, and its uncontrolled sleep occurs when I hold it in my hands or the shoulder stand.

Hi Aljosa! Both the XC15 and XF400 are great B-camera options. However, the XC15 will offer you more of the options to more closely match the look of the image to your EOS C100 Mark II, so it might be the better choice for you. We hope this helps!

I am sorry what is professional about it? i miss very important things right on the camera like the old ones (XHA1 and the XF300) like a Iris ring, and zoom ring! and the price of the camera of the given things is way , way to high!.. With this camera you will go 2 steps back when you have the XF300 or the XHA1.. it lacks primary functionality! I will move from my XHA1 (before that i got the XM2 and 1) to the Panasonic HC-X1 a lot more functionality and options and way more cheaper! I dont get it why you shrunk the cam, and trow out much functionality on the camera! You lost me now Canon!

I was waiting to for a Canon 4k successor from my XHA1's .. My XHA1's are mainly used for fireworks filming ( I looovvee the color settings you can make). Also the XHA1\XF300 got a 3 chip system, (also good for brilliant colors). So when i heard about a 4K in the XF series I was hoping they would build (what sound kind a logic) further on the XHA1\XF300 (run and gun)models.. but no.. This new camera XF400 is a (enhanced) consumer camera..and by far no serious professional ENG camera. There is much demand for a good replacement of the XHA1\XF300 camcorder..But it seems they dont listen to us.. the (pro)(con)sumer or professional

This isn't an upgrade for the XF300/305 but the XF100 / 105. I feel that style of ENG has gone to the more pro style of the XC / C Range However they Could bring out an XF500/505. As a side note does anyone feel the SDI port a bit pointless? Surely 6G SDI would have been more Current.

Pyroworld - avoid the HC-X1 - it has awful colors and it is very bad in low light, very grainy. Yes, Chris is right, it's more of an upgrade of the XF100 :( Also remember the Canon C series is also a single chip Super35 but the colors still look beautiful.

Well it looks like they bring it as an upgrade to the XF300, but that isnt. Thank you for the tip regarding the HC-X1. I am still researching for a new 4K cam and this HC-X1 (also the UX180) from Panasonic seems it got what I want. But here in Holland i can hire them.. so i will first hire them to see if it fits my needs. I need a so called run and gun camera (like the XH-A1 and XF300) for my videos and colors and low light is a very important point for me

I don't think triple chip CCD is gonna happen again. I doubt the fine grain and colours are enough to keep it going the world went CMOS for cheaper mass production and better lowlight performance. I reckon they'll make a XF500 soon when they announce the c100/300 my III

This is a great camcorder however please be aware that there are 2 serious issues. 1. Zoom Ring is unusable for small adjustments. Canon's XA Camcorders have the best zoom ring, but on this model they ruined the camera with a stepped zoom (although the ring rotates smoothly) 2. IRIS transitions are smooth but they are still in steps. Although better than having hard changes in F-Stops, this camcorder has more of a "sliding" fades into F-Stops and they are visible. Other than those issues, I am quite amazed with this camera. Canon if you are following these comments, please fix the zoom ring and IRIS. That will make this camera above all the competition.

Dear Canon please respond. You say in this video that ‘sometime in the future’ you will release XF-AVC support on a firmware release? If this is possible, why was it not added in this production run? How long into the future are we going have to wait for this; weeks, months, years? I have actually purchased this camera now and I am very disappointed that it only has 3 look options, one of this being just black & white. Can we not have C-log and a few others that will help some of us that DO want more creative control in post editing? The other big slap in the face is having to pay like £350 to have it region switched ntsc /pal at a service Center when it is a switchable option for free in all other recorders. It’s a scary thought also that if you do let us have other codecs like XF-AVC and other needed ones, that you may charge the earth for them and burn our pockets!

Sorry.There's an external recording priority mode. HDMI gives you UHD 422 8-bit to 30p, 420 8-bit @ 60p.HDMI in HD is 422 10-bit.

Finally they made a 4K camcorder with a 1 inch sensor, something they should have done a long time ago. I am looking forward to seeing footage from this camera in 4K as I eventually would like to get a 4K camcorder to add to my kit and after using previous Canon camcorders and liking their size and weight and ergonomics, I have liked them, but not so much the image quality and with the bigger sensor and 4K recording, should produce better image quality over the previous HF/XF/XA camcorders. Why only a x15 optical zoom in 4K though? Is it the bigger sensor size? The previous versions including the XF200, XA20, G30, G40 etc... all had x20 optical zooms, which I liked when using a HF G30 to get videos of birds and other wildlife, when I had one. I know they were not 4K and had a smaller sensor, but it would have been better to have the full x20 zoom in 4K, rather than just a x30 advanced zoom in 1080p, which I assume is just a crop of the sensor? Also, digital zoom isn't good to use, especially the more you zoom in which degrades the image. Its good that it has dual pixel focus though and has telephoto attachment for the extra reach.

Dave's Nature Productions Panasonic's AG-UX180 has a 1" 4K sensor and manages a 20x optical zoom. Of course, it doesn't look like a toy, either. Canon is just playing games with all of us.

Looks like a great ENG camera. I've been shooting news events for 23 years, and see lots of great new features in this camera. The most important features are Auto focusing and low-light capabilities. When I arrive at a breaking news event, I need a camera that works well in full auto mode, seconds count to capture fast moving scenes. I sure would like the opportunity to test the camera and review it in the field, as a ENG cameraman.

For all those looking at a Canon Video Camera to save memories, I'd like to share my experience. I don’t think I am alone in this endeavor. I bought a prosumer grade Canon GL1 mini DV camcorder when it first came out (~2000). We took videos as our kids grew up, hoping to organize and transfer them to computer format when we get time, probably retirement. For many of us that time has come, the grandkids would love to see video of their parents growing up. Now we have to figure out how to get the old video camcorders to run well enough to read the tapes. Many of us purchased the camcorder → computer hardware/software along the way and do NOT want to pay hundreds to have some other company mangle/lose the tapes. Currently the Canon GL1 seems to work fine, but it sounds like it could use some lubrication. I called Canon to obtain the service/repair manual. I was told such was reserved for Canon certified repair facilities. I talked to Canon’s repair, and then a 3rd party shop they recommended, and both no longer repair the GL1. Thus I feel Canon has left my generation with hours of family video high and dry with no way to view them. I understand Canon (or any manufacturer) wanting to have a monopoly on repairing their equipment to assure repairs are made correctly to keep customers satisfied and respecting the Canon name, especially while under the warranty period. However I don’t understand why, if a company such as Canon no longer wishes to repair older equipment, that they won't make the service/repair manual available, either by selling it, let other distributers sell it, or better yet put it in the public domain. I’d like to add several notes: 1) I feel I am quite capable of doing this service myself, though the service manual would probably make it easier. 2) I have also contacted several groups that advocate for the 'right to repair' about requiring companies that no longer repair older models to release the respective service manuals, preferably into the public domain. 3) I own several prosumer/pro pieces of Canon equipment and I think I will now have to think harder as to my next purchase. I wrote Canon the above and their response was I could upgrade my GL1 by participating in Canon Upgrade Program. I don't need a new technology video camera, I need something that can read mini DV tapes, preferably with a firewire output (like the GL1).

lol, there are tons of mini dv cameras on ebay that will play your tapes. That's the easy part. The hard part is finding a computer with firewire to get the movies off the tape and onto a file...I did this a few years ago. Good luck.

The XF-305 came out in 2010. Seven years later we get a camera with a reduced zoom range, the loss of genlock and timecode, and a decimated onboard color space limited to 4:2:0. They must think we're complete fools.

That could be... but you can just buy a 205 if you want to shoot in HD. Even if your output is 1080p, a 4K oversample provides a much superior image (and you can go 1080p out the SDI while shooting in this mode at the same time). There's zero reason to shoot in 1080p with this camera.

Hi! The LCD screen on the XF405 and XF400 camcorders can rotate a total of 270°. From its starting position facing the back of the unit, you can rotate it as much as 180° to face the front of the unit or you can rotate it as much 90° to point downwards. Hope that helps!

I am waiting for the day when you guys start innovating and offering products with a price tag that matches their feature set. An additional $500 for an SDI connection!?!? Pfft! Another example: the XA30 and XA35 are EXACTLY identical to their predecessors with the exception of the sensor. This is old technology with a new designation at the same price point. That's ridiculous! Back to the XF405. 16bit audio in a "pro" camcorder?!? 24bit is the new industry standard! 16bit is 1980's technology. Technology is supposed to get cheaper as it ages not remain they same. Look at the iPhone. It records 4k and does 240fps slow motion. The GH5 records 4:2:2 10bit internally and generally speaking crushes the specs on the XF405 and it's under $2000. (yes I know, no integrated lens or ND filter but that's not the point)... I would love to buy into your products (especially the Cinema line) but the premium prices need to go.

I'd pay $1,500 for the XF400 without hesitation. However, as is, it's very over priced and the features (low light, quality, etc.) are lagging behind competitors by a long shot. A simple perusal of reviews on B&H and KZbin will show that. I like Canon products, but lately their pricing and lagging behind the competition has been pushing me towards Sony and Panasonic.

1.0-inch 4K UHD CMOS Image Sensor is ok but... is it back-illuminated ? Nowadays standard is: back-illuminated sensors. Back illuminated sensor means correctly illuminated without obstacles. It seems, inside these Canon's new camcorders there is old, crappy technology sensors. I'm glad to hear that Canon and Sony continue producing compact (very portable, lightweight) professional camcorders but for estimated launch expensive prices, Canon could put inside new technology sensors. Old crap for so high price is a fraud. I hope these camcorders have back-illuminated sensors, if not, this is crap.

Optical and Dynamic IS introduce sharp jerking moves to the footage, and when using IS handheld, pans and tilts exhibit extensive image blur and ghosting rendering the XF400 and XF405 useless! Being that the XF705, XA40/45, XA50/55 all use the same exact IS, all Canon camcorders should be avoided at all costs.
