Just love what Ferdinand Berthoud are doing. Dream watches. Simply stunning. More from them if you can. Some great interviews with some of the team really adds to the understanding of the passion and skills of the watchmakers.

Thank you so much for this in-depth video! I just saw this watch at Cellini and met Vincent Lapaire and while the watch was stunning in person and Vincent such a friendly and knowledgeable host, it was very busy so having this video to explain the technical details is so helpful in putting context around such a beautiful piece. Really great new release, congrats to the FB team!

Amazing timepiece and extremely beautiful. The only thing that bothers me a little is that if I understand well, the cylindrical hairspring “complication” advantage is merely visual, it doesn’t solve any issues, it is very hard to regulate and required serious development. Still very interesting and refreshing. Thanks for sharing.
@watchestv-com2 жыл бұрын
Cylindrical hairspring were mainly used in marine chronometers and offer a significant chronometrical advantage in such timepieces. So here it translates a bit into that but very true that on an aesthetics point of view, they are just beautiful to look at, there is some magic in how they deploy. The best to you

@@watchestv-com thanks for the insight on the marine chronometers. Always a pleasure to learn from you. Regards

Technically, the cylindrical hairspring is coiled vertically along the axis of the balance wheel, compared to a flat hairspring. It reduces the friction on pivots. The challenge was to adapt is on a wristwatch and make it COSC-certified, therefore the watchmakers need to create perfect manual curves on the hairspring. Everything relies on those adjustments and we spent two years to find the perfect curves for this purpose.

As much as people love MB&F I love Ferdinand Berthoud. They really do make some of the best watches in the world. This and the Hand Made 1 are really about as high as high horology gets. Of course there are insane one-offs and everyone has their favorite brands but let me have mine.
@hoffmancapote2 жыл бұрын
Really beautiful watch. One of the most attractive watches I have seen. It is all harmonised in a unique way. A little off topic you have changed your slender rimmed glasses(spectacles)to a broader rim. A temporary move or a transition?

So if I understand correctly, this piece is COSC certified, which gives it a range of +6 to -4 sec/day. Does the cylindrical hairspring allow it to perform better than a $1000 off-the-shelf watch? I have an ordinary production automatic that keeps time to within 1 second a month. It is guaranteed to within +/- 2 sec/day. Where's the beef?
@u.d.75432 жыл бұрын
It is obvious they have been looking at watches of Greubel Fersey, especially the hand made 1. I really really like these kinds of watches. Architecture is amazing. Sadly, thes watches are to expensive to buy.

A masterpiece. However, personally I would have preferred it if they didn’t go with that sandblasted effect, not that I can afford one either way anyway !! 🤣😅😁 And even if I could afford one, I’m not one who’s into all these long waiting list nonsense.
