i have a question that have been around my head for a long time why do we use V tails instead of normal tail
@whatsthematter87677 ай бұрын
@@taham6757 V-Tails use less material and therefore can be made lighter than conventional tails, they also generally have a lower frontal surface area and create less drag. They also can get the control surfaces out of turbulent engine thrust, just look at the cirrus vision jet! It uses a V-Tail so that the turbulence from the thrust of the engine which is mounted right in front of the tail and on top of the plane doesn't mess up the control surfaces.

Contrats on the project. Info requests for the kickstarter project... Can you further spec out the wing? Motor size (recommended, or what's in the kit), servos, FS, battery, prop, etc. Also airspeed, flight duration, range etc. Interior layout of plane, CG, weight table, etc. Surely you are working on finalizing this, but you've flown it, so you must have a pretty good idea what these are now. The kickstarter feels under-spec'ed, but also thank you for not having it scroll on forever with stock photo nonsense. Good luck!

@@jimmy8445 I'm not that cynical. I've watched both of these guys for years, and they seem to be straight shooters. I highly doubt it's a money grab. I do think there is excessive enthusiasm in the comments here, considering the lack of product information. TF and RCTF need to step up with more specs. ( That's assuming they have not already. I'm not checking up on the kickstarter.) Working out the details, getting it right, and mass producing takes a lot of effort, and money. If they deliver a good product, they'll deserve whatever they make.

@@glenmiller1437 nope I've also watched them both for years. The maker/rc community has always been open source. @@jimmy8445 Hey Jimmy. I guess that's your prerogative. If they hit their schedule and deliver a good design, I have no issues. They far surpassed their kickstarter goal, so I think we're in the minority with our concerns, lol. Well, we'll see what happens.

cool stuff! a few ideas on aerodynamics: - option to smooth out the winglets corners with foam, maybe could be glued next to carbon (i like carbon as strong) - it's hard to see from the video/pics, though, I heard that if placed at certain angles winglets can still produce some thrust (converting vortices into thrust) - did you do CFD or real life L/D (lift/drag) measurements? most foamies just stink because they don't provide any info about efficiency (L/D graphs, wh/km @ weight, etc), which became a very nice norm in 3d print market (titan dynamics, eclipson), just no option from molded foamy there! That would be really cool so people which know exactly what to expect from the wing performance wise. this in real life can be measured by measuring glide ratio (i guess you knew). - interestingly depending if you want to optimize wing efficiency for minimum wing span vs minimum weight, the NASA Prantdl and BSLD concept might be very relevant: * if wingspan is most important (and not weight) is important you probably stick with old-style Elliptic which is optimum for fixed wingspan * however if you consider optimizing for structural weight and to also minimise the induced drag at 250g limit - thus wing could be a bit smaller at same lift (this is very interesting because say in ZOHD Dart I couldn't fit normal 18650 batteries with proper electronics within 250g, not to even dream about 21700), NASA Prantdl and Bell Shaped Lift Distribution (BSLD) in general, like birds, cuts induced drag by converting part vortices into thrust, in addition to other cool things like PROVERSE yaw! And unlike Eliptic, Prantdl/BSLD gives optimum solution given a fixed wing structural weight! see ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citations/20160003578/downloads/20160003578.pdf and ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citations/20210014683/downloads/H3284FINAL.pdf I would certainly buy one if you'd have a foamy with BSLD / Prandtl! For small plane, this one might be quite good starting point (instead of original opensource Nasa Prantdl's models which have larger aspect ratio) and flies amazingly stable even in manual (I got 3d printed version of it): www.angelwingdesigns.co.uk/products/fvt3-pre-order the developers of this wing are very cool guys and maybe they might cooperate on injection mold?

@vidmasze7 ай бұрын
@@ZZ430T56 :D be sure, space shuttle glides worse... it had one of the worst aerodynamics ever as a glider ;) if it glides badly as you say (not so sure, looked kinda ok to me in the video for the dimensions), that's just another reason why some of the above might make sense (e.g. BLSD/Prandtl allows reducing induced drag by up to 11+% at same lift, not sure about winglets performance, but I'm sure there were reports square winglets on real airplanes was eating like maybe ~5% more fuel) - if these worked out, each of them would improve the gliding!
