Your premise sounds wonderful, I wish you the best of luck in the endeavor. This hobby has needed a set of best practices which are proven effective, evidence based, and in line with scientific principles for a considerable amount of time now. I'd guess it will take some effort to establish a consensus, but I'm glad someone is making the effort. And while you're certain to hit differing opinion from experienced hobbiest's, I very much hope its a benefit to new and intermediate hobbiest's.

ya. its from aggressive churning activated carbon. stray voltage or poor nutrition. ! im sure water quality too ! Sometimes can be reversed but many times scars too far gone. Carbon should be either run for short periods of time and be run very slowly not tumbling in a reactor or passively in sump !! Vitamins and good food and good levels of trace elements will help. Krill oil. omega 369. , nori. Selcon or even sugar free children’s vitamins should be used to soak food
