I got the idea that we could restore an old custom, that the New Testament has a preface before each writing, as Martin Luther did, this way we could tell what tradition says and what scholars say about the tradition and the origin of the writings and this way the reader would get more information about what the text in question is and why it was chosen and when it was probably written and who (for example, anonymous, pseudograph or Paul). The prefaces was once dropped out to save space and condense the New Testament.

Majority of Christians don't even know that they are relying on 4th century Greek manuscripts which were written by unknown authors. The authors of the gospels were not the ones who were walking with Jesus according to Christian scholarship, who admit all authors of the gospels are anonymous. People were just writing about Jesus what they heard about Jesus. The authors of the gospels never claimed that they were witnesses. They never claim who they are. And they never claim any divine inspiration.

That’s bit a misnomer. There’s over a billion Christians. Many know the NT is not written by eye witnesses and weren’t written till decades to centuries after Jesus death. Id say the majority. Jesus has never been portrayed in the NT nor believed to ever written the gospels or a writer or have written anything. He never claimed nor was believed to have given a long oral doctorine like Muhammad. It’s one of the reasons people like Jesus, he was a poor laborer common man that gave a simple message, preached and walked around with his friends. Most people know literacy and being able to afford books was like zero back then. People know the gospels were written as a necessity because his original followers were getting old or dying. The Quran was not standardized removing the many various different versions and parts until it was finalized until over 100 years after Muhammad died. It doesn’t take away from the scripture. The gospels are seen as historical biographies. Look at the legion story, everyone knows that it’s symbolic about the Roman troops in judea

Wrong. These are faithful copies of older original texts. I bet you don’t know that the same can be said for the entire book of Isaiah until the discovery of the entire scroll of Isaiah amount the Dead Sea Scrolls - and that they are identical despite over 1000 years older.

By the way Jesus was never a Muslim - that was invented over 600 years after Jesus by a tribal warlord false prophet.

@ Isaiah was written ~~2nd century bc. Isaiah is 600 years older. How does anyone know if the scroll rendition is faithful to the original writing? What source did the authors of the DSS use?

@bartdehrman know if this course has any actual credit units along with it that can be possibly accepted by some university and colleges for being a full semester length course taught by an accredited Instructor? I'd love to take this course with a colleague that you highly recommend , but be nice if they could be added to my college credits as a humanities too.

Hey Bart! Please debate the internet craze Wes Huff. He's been making claims about the stuff in your field of study and I think critique is required to prevent any further damage from misinformation. Thanks!

Isn't the Bible, both testaments, basically ancient Jewish folk tales? I mean, how serious should a person today take it? Not very IMHO.

Ok. Let's get started. Take out your textbooks on the Crucifixion story as imagery and prophecy. Let me know if you find one. I don't have the time to read everything ever written. Warning of the impending Day of the Lord, he was swallowed by the Beast out of the Sea (sacrifice) and spewed out upon the shore as the Beast out of the Earth (resurrection), as the sun beat down upon his head and a burning east wind began the Way of the Lord in the Desert. the one who is and who was and who is to come, the almighty (Rev 1:8 NABO) The beast that you saw existed once but now exists no longer. It will come up from the Abyss and is headed for destruction. (Rev 17:8 NABO) 'Who will go down into the abyss?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). (Rom 10:7 NABO)

@robertdargan1113 Bart became my favorite author when I studied. Blessed is the kingdom of our Father David that is to come! (Mar 11:10 NABO) David, the Morning Star, rides the donkey. The bride of David rides the foal of the donkey. Christ rides a horse - of many colors, aspects, or perspectives. White - The wine press I have trodden alone (Isa 63:3 NABO) - there was a white horse, and its rider... rode forth victorious to further his victories (Rev 6:2 NABO) Red - Do not think that I have come to bring peace (Mat 10:34 NABO) - a horse came out, a red one. Its rider was given power to take peace away from the earth (Rev 6:4) Black - I came into this world for judgment (Joh 9:39 NABO) - there was a black horse, and its rider held a scale in his hand. (Rev 6:5 NABO) Pale Green - Who will go down into the abyss?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). (Rom 10:7 NABO) - there was a pale green horse. Its rider was named Death, and Hades accompanied him. (Rev 6:8) Then I saw the heavens opened, and there was a white horse; its rider was (called) "Faithful and True." He judges and wages war in righteousness. He himself will tread out in the wine press the wine of the fury and wrath of God the Almighty (Rev 19:11-15 NABO)

@@kumarakantirava429 I certainly don't. You can easily spend a lifetime following the old testament. Apart from historically, it won't help you at all with the new testament. If you wish to study the new testament, then study it.

@ Yes, but the problem is, Christianity interprets the Hebrew Bible differently than how Jews do, and how the books are actually written. Yes, it does with help with understanding the new testament, but a lot of the new testament has influences outside the Hebrew bible. And Bart
