AWESOME. Thanks to Nikola Tesla for the patents that were used in this plant. This plant was the second major plant to open in the Niagara Region. the First was the Decew I Power Generating Station in St Catharines. These early station defined Canada as an advance innovative nation.

I am absolutely stunned and flabbergasted by what I saw in this video. I was aware that this hydropower station was being refurbished to become a tourist attraction, but I had no idea how impressive and spectacular it would be. As a Niagara Falls, NY native I have a great awareness of the importance of Niagara Falls to the development of hydropower and electrification to the world. As a former employee of Westinghouse Electric and a fan of Nikola Tesla, I am genuinely excited about the prospect of seeing your facility. Many a time, while walking the path along the river on the US side I would see your power plant and wonder what it was like inside. Architecturally, it mirrors the old Adams Power Plant on our side that is mostly gone today (with the exception of the transformer building). I believe the Adams Station was built just prior to your Power Station in Ontario and I assume the technology is similar, if not identical. I applaud my friends to the north for keeping this structure intact and making it now available for all to see in this century. I look forward to the pandemic to soon end for many reasons, and one of them is to be able to come across the bridge and see your world class attraction!

I was there many years ago before it was retired and stood at the screen doors at the South end, the heat coming off the generators and out the doors was incredible!

Fascinating. I will be one of the first in line to experience this attraction. But I would be even more intrigued to be able to tour the mysterious Ontario Power Company Generating Station at the base of the Falls. as well as the magnificent Toronto Power Generating Station by the scow, which is quite simply one of the noblest and most impressive buildings in Ontario.

Unfortunately I can confirm that the TPGS has been stripped out inside of most everything above grade. The turbine pit is much larger but in quite a terrible state and likely well beyond restoration. I fear that the only option may be to backfill it and save the surface building as a facade. The tailrace tunnel is an amazing structure that does in fact empty behind horseshoe falls however I am not sure how that could really be utilized in any way by the general public.

@@scottarmstrong5607 Ever since you posted this reply -- thank you, by the way -- I have sourced and reviewed many of the photo essays of the urban explorers who rediscovered, entered, and photographed the incredible TPGS tailrace back in the late 2000s. It sounds and looks, by all accounts, to be the most astounding structure in Niagara Falls, short of the falls themselves. Nothing even comes close to it in wonder. It would be a crime if that edifice weren't made accessible, somehow. If they can make the Rankine tailrace accessible (an intriguing but FAR less compelling structure), then surely they can do something similar for the incomparable TPGS tailrace. I only wish that one of those urban explorers had captured the opening to the falls on film. Again, from what I've read and the images I've seen, it puts *everything else* in Niagara to shame, and that's saying something.

@@jetuber none of my shots of the backside turned out. So much spray and mist. Like trying to take a photo from inside a fog bank.

@@scottarmstrong5607 they are planning to have an elevator that takes you to the tailrace tunnel with the view of the falls but that's in phase 2, completion expected around July 2022

I peeked in through the windows 3 years ago when on vacation. I’ll definitely be returning when this is opened up, as the industrial hydro history is fascinating.

Cool video and I can't wait to tour the plant, but just a bit of constructive criticism, I find the particular background music used in this video to be a bit annoying and distracting. I don't know if it's just me as things like this could be subjective, but curious if anyone else finds the same thing.

So if green energy is so important why did they shut it down when it seems to work perfectly fine?
@billalexander8011

It was 104 years old when they shut it down. The more modern structures down the river are using the flow.

Its Canada. Only during a supposed "energy crisis" would we turn a perfectly good, working, green energy source into a paid museum. That is why the entire thing is made up BS.
