In munich the main station serves as the hub for long distance trains and commuter trains, the bus station is separate from it but connected by train, and the subway has 3 separate, decentralized hubs to prevent any station from getting overcrowded. So its absolutely normal for the subway to either dont have any single main hub or to have that hub separate from other traffic knots

Same in Copenhagen. The metro has 2 “hubs” and neither of Them are the central stration

In Frankfurt it's the same thing. We have several subway hubs where lines meet and changes to, local trains, bus, or tram are possible.
@brandongregory954210 ай бұрын
Love the subway, the network is a bit of a mess, branch lines usually meet up into a trunk line, also downtown should be a hub since that’s where most people will be traveling. Ring lines should come later on to eliminate the need to go downtown to transfer. Love the series!!! 😊

I think you can run a tram lane from a subway station to the research institute, with the rail on ground or even elevated, in this way you can control the slope! It would be really cool to have something like that for the working researchers
@SanctumGamer10 ай бұрын
The elevation rise to the institute is quite a lot. But thanks for the tip, will explore the feasibility of it to see how it could be done realistically.

30:58 you should untick the boxes under map legend on top left. Untick all unwanted routes. 2. The subway train take time to gain speed, many stops that are near each other dont allow them to reach full speed
@SanctumGamer10 ай бұрын
Ohhh, yeah, thanks for that!
@stummelschwanzzwergtyrann10 ай бұрын
The speed thing is correct. But still there are many real life examples for very short distances between subway stops. In Frankfurt (germany) where I live we have stops that are not more than 5 walking minutes away from each other.

Just found this channel and I’m loving it! Just a thought on above-ground subways. There are generally two reasons why subways go above ground. First, because they are built in very low density areas where there is an anticipation for demand, but land prices are relatively cheap. So, less developed suburbs. Second, in places where the land slopes down to the elevation of the underground tracks, meaning that they have to go above ground to have a gentile slope. Just that, if your worried about bulldozing a main street like at 26:19 , then you can easily justify putting the trains underground. Make a new neighborhood with a subway as the centerpiece if youd like.

Subway in my city (Buenos Aires) consists of several lines that run spreading out from the city center in different directions below the main avenues. None of them is a loop and they serve different areas. Some lines intersect perpendicularly, and only some of the stations offer transfer to train network, whichs means they don't always share the same route with trains. I think, given the shape of Scattered Island, that a loop line around downtown and lines spreading out of it to the different surrounding districts would be more efficient.

Considerations... trains can be 200m+ long. It is helpful to have bypass points, holding points etc between stations, as well as all the signalling, therefore you probably don't want your stations to be closer than 500m apart, but beyond that and given that we don't have real world signalling capacity limitations, your distance is demand driven - and it will generate its own demand. Build as many stops as your economy can sustain.

Thanks for these insights. Much appreciated!

In the real cities, the distance of stations in the center and all dense zones in the city are about 700-800 meters (500m If you have many other lines with which you can transfer). But in less dense zones or suburbs, the distance between them is about 1,5 km. But we also try to ensure that the lines have many stations so that the maximum number of people are covered and they are used as much as possible, which is why we try to extend them as much as possible. A line, from 10 stops is correct, if you can have 15 better, 20 better,... Therefore, my recommendation is to add stops between the actual stops (cause are sections that have been very long without any stops, spetialy in downtown). I have to tell you that I really like the initial metro network, it's very clean, smooth curves, well balanced... I like it, I really like it.

Subway lines should branch out in multiple direction from your CBD/ Downtown area…rarely do they loop instead just goes out one direction and comes back on the same route…also the subway at every train station is a bit redundant. Your subway should compliment your train service and only be serving areas that the train does not cover. Great video as always BTW

I think having a subway system in a city that has a lots of islands is impractical and inefficient. I'd rather increase the number of buses that can transport people across different areas. But if you prefer the subway, that’s fine too. Just keep in mind that the stations will be far apart and the subway lines shouldn't branch out. They should be drawn in a single line that encircles the ‘Scattered’ map of the city. I suggest you build the stations on the vacant land that has not been developed yet. Downtown area needs to have one station only, pls listen to me that stations must be far apart to be optimal, 'bcs that's what was built in my country. That way, you can easily create new settlements in the future without destroying the existing ones. Btw, nice video :))

Hey mate, your city is very nice. There is no much sense in running a subway line parallel to a train line. The subway is an opportunity to take train lines to place where there isn't any mass transport. You must eventually connect to a few train stations to expand the system. This way you will have an expanded network of trains mixing subway and above ground train lines.

I was so sure that the game mechanics is that high rent complains appear when the land value is "too high" referred to the type of home? That you have to have some landside villages with lesser coverage of city services, in which rent/loans will be lower and therewise will be more affordable for low income citizens...? ..just as in our reality?

I really enjoy your channel, but I must admit, a lot of the subway does not make a whole lot of sense as duplicate your train connection in many parts. You certainly want a central hub for transfer between trains and subway, but no city would spend the resources to build a more expensive duplicate underground train to follow one running above it! The whole thing of underground rail is the ability to bring true mass transit to places where the surface is built full of expensive buildings. And then pop above ground in suburbs with lesser land value - if not already serviced by a train. So the city center lines make sense, the ones following the train do not.
