have a look on the op-1 forum before you buy one. Many folk have experienced a major issue with the unit actually not fitting into their op-z.

The thing I’m struggling with is using oplab to control both two gears(in my case it is erebus and werkstadt-02 via cv and midi at te same track. Seems to be not possible, can you check it too please? It comes out with an interferences on the midi side, where midi device is taking cv input as well as a chosen track(f.e. Bass)…😢
@soundtechnology Жыл бұрын
You should be able to control both at the same time. The module track on OP-Z is used for CV by default. The CV & Gate output only respond to MIDI channel 14 from OP-Z. If you want to control both at the same time, you need to have at least 1 track set to channel 14 (for cv) and the other set to the same channel as your MIDI device. As an example - you could use the module track (set to MIDI channel 14) to send control voltage to one device, and the bass track with the channel set to that of your MIDI gear - lets say channel 5. MIDI settings can be edited using the OP-Z app, or by editing the .json config file while connected to your computer. This is explained further in the manual for both oplab and OP-Z: teenage.engineering/guides/op-z/midi teenage.engineering/guides/op-z/modules/oplab Hope this helps!

In example #1, do you have to use trig out or can you use midi out and patch Cv/gate to other inputs?
@soundtechnology Жыл бұрын
Yep - you could use the out jack as MIDI instead of Trig. With 0-Coast specifically that could then cover CV, Gate (and clock I think), therefore freeing up the CV & Gate connections.

Ok, how does it compare to the line module? Is one better than the other? Or are they both useful for different purposes?
@soundtechnology8 ай бұрын
They have different uses. The oplab has CV & Gate connections for controlling modular synths etc, whereas the line gives you audio i/o instead. Both have MIDI, Trigger or PO Sync options. It's a case of whether you need audio i/o or control voltage.
@Caldoric8 ай бұрын
@@soundtechnology why can't they make a model that does all those things? Like, add a switch or two for the ports on the right side in addition to the one on the left, so you can choose without having to completely swap modules. Also, it'd be neat if they included a backplate that let you have access to the switches without having to completely remove said plate first.

How does the midi line in work with a Yamaha p-90
@soundtechnology2 жыл бұрын
I don't know much about the Yamaha P-90, but I assume you can take MIDI out (5pin connector) from the P-90 and connect to MIDI in on oplab. In this configuration, you can use the P-90 to play the sounds on the OP-Z. If you take the oplab MIDI out and plug it to the P-90 MIDI in, you can use OP-Z to sequence notes on the P-90. Hope this helps!

Is it possible to do the Nord midi stuff with the USB-C port, using a USB-C to MIDI cable?
@soundtechnology4 жыл бұрын
You can definitely use the MIDI out from USB C to control the Nord, but you might need MIDI / USB interface. You could also use a DAW to bridge the two. It could be possible to get a USB-C to USB-B cable, but I've only tried connecting them with oplab and DAW

i'm trying to send gate out from my op-z into a dfam, going into the advance clock cv in on dfam, i can't get it working though, is there something i'm missing..?
@soundtechnology3 жыл бұрын
Hi Duncan, I just looked at both manuals and in theory that should work. You can check that the gate is firing from oplab by looking at the LED above the gate output - it should flash every time you trigger a note on the module track.

Check out the OP-Z manual here: teenage.engineering/guides/op-z/midi This tells you how to configure all MIDI settings on Z, which then links with oplab

My Squarp Pyramid sends DIN SYNC out over 3.5mm which I am able to sync as many Pocket Operators as I wish (with a standard splitter cable). My question is, what will happen if I send this DIN SYNC into the TRIG input on the oplab module? My wish is that the OPZ accepts the clock pulse and syncs the BPM just like the Operators do.
@soundtechnology5 жыл бұрын
The oplab module has a selectable trig in which accepts 0 - 10V. According to the manual if you set the multiplier on a track to 0 (track + shift + 0) it will run a step per trigger. So it should work!
@StevenSclafani5 жыл бұрын
@@soundtechnology Thanks for the reply. I was so close to purchasing the OP-Z but the deal breaker was the requirement to have to purchase the module for MIDI in and out. I wound up getting the ZOIA which does everything I was hoping and more. OP-Z still seems really cool and perhaps I'll eventually try one.
@robertbuckly762 жыл бұрын
they didn't explain the trigger in function. I can't figure, any help?
@soundtechnology2 жыл бұрын
Hi there - that's true, our CV example doesn't cover this! OP-Z's tracks can be driven by an external trigger input connected to oplab. Set oplab in to 'trig' > Select the track you want to run from the trig input > Set track length multiplier (hold shift + I) to 0. This instructs the track to follow the trigger input. Hope this helps! It's also set out in the instructions here (5.4): teenage.engineering/guides/op-z/track

As a composer of over 10 years, I think it's fun to look at how the synth community is progressing very, very slowly compared to everyone else. It's essentially the same technology as 40 years ago, with minor improvements.
@WinterDJ402 жыл бұрын
Compared to what, exactly? The technology is certainly being changed and improved quite drastically, but the fundamentals stay the same because they already work. Comparable to an acoustic guitar or a violin which hasn't really changed at all the last 40 years.
