You can put a piece of tin foil into the sustain jack and it will sustain all the notes but it can get a little muddy as all the chords tend to blend but it does work

if you have a daw (digital audio worstaition) like logic pro or magix then you should be able to plug it in and use it as a midi input and use the sounds you have on those programs or any others with midi input support

Thank you for your interest in our NP-32 Home Keyboard. If you wish to play cable-free, the NP-32 can be powered using 6x 'AA' batteries rather than by using the mains power adapter. The duration the batteries will last for will depend on various factors (including how loud you play and the type of battery used); we've found alkaline batteries can last up to 7 hours. Hi Indranil, between the NP-12 and the PSR-E353, the PSR-E353 is more feature-rich; it has a greater variety of sounds and an excellent selection of backing accompaniments. It also features the Yamaha Education Suite (learning aids for practicing between lessons). Both models have touch-response keyboards.

We're sorry to hear you're not getting on with the NP-V80. The NP-V80 offers a wide range of keyboard features. The NP-32 offers a far smaller range of options with just a handful of buttons. We're wondering if you're actually after something more piano like? There's a big difference in 'piano-realism' between the NP models and P Series models; we think that the NP Series models sound better than anything else in their class (in terms of the piano sound) but that the P Series models are a big step up from that (the graded hammer weighting of the P Series is also a big part of the piano experience). But, for a high quality, easy-to-use compact keyboard, the NP-32 is superb and is ideal for transporting to and from university or college.

'Weighted' is a general term for something resembling a piano's action. At the most basic level, the keys are literally heavy. The P Series uses a far more advanced weighting system which mimics the way an acoustic piano's keys move as well as how much effort is required to play them. We 'grade' the action - making the low notes seem heaviest with the notes gradually getting lighter to play as you move towards the treble end. This replicates the way an acoustic piano action works, where larger (heavier) hammers are needed to hit the strings in the bass end. (Our flagship hybrid pianos take this a step further by using the same action we make for our acoustic grand pianos - check out the AvantGrand Series: www.yamahamusiclondon.com/Pianos-and-Keyboards/Digital-Pianos/AvantGrand-and-NU-Hybrid-Pianos/ ) Generally, we only offer piano weighting in pianos and keyboards with a full 88-note length. The one exception to this is the Yamaha S70XS synthesizer (but based on the messages above, we don't think this is what you're looking for). If you're able to stretch to the Yamaha P-45 Piano, we think that this will suit you far better if you're a pianist (or having piano lessons).

Hi Leigh, the NP-32 is designed to work either on its own or with a Mac, iPad or Windows PC - a USB MIDI connection is the easiest option for this and avoids the need for a dedicated MIDI interface. To connect the NP-32 directly to instruments with conventional MIDI sockets, you'd need a USB to MIDI adapter, such as Kenton's MIDI USB Host. Alternatively, our higher-end PSR-S, MOXF and Montage Series keyboard and synthesizers all feature conventional MIDI ports.

I am glad about this key action. Yesterday I played a more expensive Yamaha digital piano from the CP series, key action is pretty heavy, too heavy. Yesterday I received my NP-32 and noticed, that the key action is a good compromise. The instrument isn't heavy, small, easy to transport, the internal speakers aren't the best ones, but makes the piano audible. Compared with a 76 keys compact piano I had years before, what I almost used with its internal speakers, I wouldn't do this here very often.
