true. I just installed old Kenwood cassette deck and couple old consumer open reel 1/4" machines just to use as effects, and oh boy, do they sound more organic than any of the plugins, specially the Kenwood is super thick sounding. I have and amplifier for the same set and I'm thinking of turning it into color box, slow slewrete but thick sounding power amp and have bass, treble and the venerable Loudness as tone controls :)

Yup. I worked at Paramount Recording Studios in the 70s. Tape was the only medium, and it didn’t sound like this. I suppose you could use just a touch of digital saturation to add warmth. But this demo was over the top.

Ha! And here I was thinking it was actually the thing effecting those vocals and drums in the opening demo. At :43, when they disable it, you hear how insanely processed everything already is. All that crazy distortion and low fi effect? Already in there 😂 Curious to hear this on something clean to do a real comparison.

LOL this is the same snakeoil stuff that has existed for decades. You can't buy into marketing like this. Everything is a tool, either you find a use for it or you don't. A 1986 Casio might have JUST the sound you're looking for on ONE track and that may be all you ever use it for.

You're being ignorant. Have you really taken the time to test these out before making such judgements? I spent a solid 14 days testing these against many other saturator/tape/distortion plugins and I can honestly say (based on experience, not just throwing my mouth around), that this plugin is incredibly good sounding. Don't be fooled by what might look like an amateur demo video.

These kinds of things are often fun to have lazy in the plug list but seldom do they ever bring anything new. It’s like when you go in to the supermarket to the chip section and see an iteration of a cheese chip, something like Tuscan cheddar with lake placid region garlic lol man they all taste like cheese and onion, it’s all marketing. I was told at the beginning of my journey in this, stock plugins will do it all more than well enough but i got sold on all the marketing BS that THIS is the greatest new thing only to realise that it does what the other past great new one does and the ones before it. It’s all subjective but yeah, we can search and search and search and never find what was staring us in the face the whole time.

Why you guys didn't update VST2 versions of UAD plug-ins to have scalable GUI and new preset browser? Also why only VST2 versions have both mono and stereo versions of plug-ins, VST3 and AU2 have only stereo. Mono versions help to save a lot of DSP.

This is basically an Ampex ATR. Presets of various different settings. Looks like they haven't resolved the licensing issue with ampex.

Saturation can add a nice lift and fatten instruments, but can also destroy a song when overused. I’m not a fan of synthetic instruments. Musicians should be able to play at least one instrument well.

UA seem to be targeting a new customer base here. The extreme simplicity, the bubblegum/ fast food like visual presentation (of the video and the product) and the vocabulary and style of verbal delivery (*) all make it seem geared towards young, mostly inexperienced folks who are looking to jump on the "producing Lofi videos as an easy side hustle" train. Nothing wrong with that per se. But to these people, please understand that no, this is not "the sound of analog" or your parents' Walkman or whatever, that "glue" is an extremely overused buzzword in the plugin world nowadays, and that it's not very credible of the presenter to claim she has no idea what these plugins do technically.
