I've watched Steve and the gang build Arabella from the beginning and actually found your channel through watching Acorn to Arabella. Your two channels are both on my "most anticipated" list! When I saw the announcement of you building Victoria, I was very excited for a few reasons. The partnership of you and Steve could not be more appropriate, it's just simply perfect! This is going to be awesome and I can't wait to watch as the tender Victoria comes together! She's going to be beautiful for sure!

Dear Bob, nice work bringing back bronze lettering to a beautiful shine. One thing I do with my polished brass work is to dip into a bath of topcoat lacquer {for automotive finish}. That gives a lasting clear finish. Just dip it in with a wire hook and put on a rail to dry. No brushing required.

Watching with great interest! When I kept my plastic sailboat in the Channel Islands (California) harbor I had the pleasure of drooling over some gorgeous traditional wooden sailboats. Love the classics and know you'll be creating another one here. An EASY way to clean verdigris off of brass and bronze is to put it in a solution of warm water and a little citric acid as is used for canning fruit. Two to four tablespoons of citric acid in a gallon of water at 140°F to 160°F will remove the corrosion in short order and will not harm the base metal. People that reload ammunition use citric acid to clean oxidized cartridges all the time. I've seen deep brown colored brass turn bright in a matter of seconds, effortlessly.

Super great collaboration! I have been a subscriber of both channels for years and look forward to the future episodes. A little trick I picked up as a Navy guy trying to get the green off brass un a hurry… get some toilet bowl cleaner, brush it on with a paint brush. Let it sit for around 20 minutes, rinse with fresh water. It gets into all the cracks and corners then you just polish with Brasso or any other chosen polish… works great. I believe the toilet bowl cleaner we used was sulphuric acid based muriatic acid for concrete work may have a similar effect.

Here from Acorn to Arabella. Love this channel. Little on the late side but maybe a help in the future, but a brass tumbler used in reloading would have worked wonders on those letters. I use walnut shell medium with a little polish in it. Just throw your cases or in your case letters, and let the tumbler do all the work.

Instead of sanding bronze, I've always used a vinegar soak and/or brass polish. For me it's less work and keeps mold details, etc. I do buff on occasion and then Soak in linseed oil or Seafin .
