This is the hero's journey of Bing. It was laughed at for years while the incumbent market leader grew fat, complacent, and started reaching far beyond where people wanted it too. It didn't matter because there was no competitor so any misbehaviour had to be accepted. Now because of the pride and complacency of being unchallenged for so many years Google slept on Bing just a little bit too long, and it just might loose them their dominance. I cheer for Bing to be a contender so that we have real competition in search.

Nah lol google have already been working on putting AI into their search engine for a couple years already, there's been some software and a search engine called Perplexity AI that's been around since last year, it will still be an even playing field no doubt and honestly looking at how people compare it to google bings chat we may want to use them together to compare results to see which may have the better result over the other because one may do better at searching something than the other.

Nope, because the internet is composed of millions of separate domains, and if Bing tinks it can excl;ude them all and replace it with their measlly porftolio of advertisements from advertisers, and keep you contained within their commercial bubble, and lock you out from the freedom of internet surfing around other domains, then they are mistaken. People will be bored on day 3 of using it due to lack of variation, and the same AI talking to you all the time. How lonely sat searching with an AI and never discovering any external content!

ONLY till you build the database of common queries. then you'll update it periodically (techs, food, restaurants etc). they already have web scraping bots and spiders tools to collect this information. so, it won't be as heavy as you'd expect down the road. Also, since Microsoft owns the OS industry and they have their own mobilephones OS. they may make you pass some of the processing power in your computer or mobile to support the model interaction/optimization. even if using 0.5% multiply that by millions of devices, that will offset the new processing demands. (more like the cryptocurrency and blockchain approach, but much simpler)

All you have to do is copy the link of the premium article, then send it to ChatGPT and ask for a detailed summary. ChatGPT will tell you everything about the article, even if it's behind a paywall. This is not fair to people who put time and effort into writing articles.

Hi there! I agree that the new Bing has a lot of potential, but I also find the design to be a bit overwhelming. There are too many texts, advertisements, and extra features that distract from the main search function. In my opinion, a simpler and more minimalist design would greatly improve the user experience. By streamlining the interface and removing unnecessary elements, users could focus more on finding the information they need. Overall, I think it's important for Bing to strike a balance between functionality and aesthetics. While it's great to have lots of features, it's equally important to present them in a way that is easy to navigate and visually appealing. With a few tweaks, I'm sure the new Bing could be a fantastic search engine that users will love.

As a machinist / blue collar worker who works in manufacturing, I’ve been hearing how robots were going to take my job for decades. But I’m more in demand than ever. Basically because I work making one or two prototypes of things or repair and modify existing parts. It’s hard to make a robot that can do that. Also a ton of people saw machining as a dead end job and went on to get college degrees. I think the average age of my type of machinist is 57. So there is a real shortage in my career field. This step forward in AI seems different than the robotic automation of manufacturing, which was just a continuation of the industrial revolution. Factories making a billion widgets had already been largely automated. Computers and robots just incrementally advanced that. This new AI is like going from a Ford Model T factory to a Tesla Gigafactory overnight. Anything that is done digitally on a computer is up for grabs. I don’t think we’re ready for this. I worked at a startup that was going to be Uber for machine shops and the staff was almost entirely working on code. Like 25 people. Coming from manufacturing where you clock in, work at a pretty fast pace, have a production target, clock out for breaks, etc, it was crazy how much time people spent just kind of goofing around. The CEO of Microsoft said in an interview that AI was "going to lower the knowledge barrier for work" which I take to mean it will let lower skilled workers do high skill tasks. Imagine all the people in developing countries that are smart, hard working, but don’t speak English. With AI that’s not a barrier anymore. I specifically have the job I have now because even though it was cheaper to have parts made in China, the delays in shipping, revisions, modifications, etc of parts was just too great. I figured it out and you could hire 6 Chinese machinist for what I make. But that’s not an issue with code. Those 25 guys I worked at the startup with can now be 1 guy supervising 100 people in the developing world using AI to brute force problems. I’d be very worried.

People at your age don't need to worry to much. But I would be worried if I was just starting out as a machinist. Robotics and ai won't stop in one industry. It's a full takeover.
@rexmundi8154

@@KManAbout It’s gonna be brutal for everyone. But yes, I’m old and pretty well established. Right now I make unique parts for science experiments on the International Space Station, so barring a Star Trek replicator type technology, I’m probably good til retirement. I’d be more worried if I was an engineer designing the parts in CAD. I can imagine a future where AI sends me designs to make instead of a team of humans. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. I think people who don’t work with their hands don’t appreciate the incredible skill, adaptability, and precision of the human body. Making a robotic system that mimics biology is very difficult. I think there will be cyborgs before there are full on robots. Think AI hijacking neuralink. Humans are easy to power, self replicating, and to some extent self repairing. No one will have a job if AI takes even 20% of the current jobs away. We’ll plunge into a society collapsing economic depression. Hard to run an economy when displaced workers destroy the power grid. Look at the Luddite rebellion but on steroids. Maybe we’ll get universal basic income, but I doubt it. Anyone young who can should be looking for 40 acres and a mule.
@KManAbout
@KManAbout Жыл бұрын
@Rex Mundi I don't think robotics has to mimic human biology. I mean as a machinist you most have seen the crazy emergence of three d printing and have you seen what darpa is doing? Robots already have the precision to do all sorts of work we just haven't combined the two quite yet
@rexmundi8154
@rexmundi8154 Жыл бұрын
@@KManAbout People also want to lump all manufacturing into "production" but that’s just not how it works. I use 3d printers in the shop, go to the trade shows, etc so I’m pretty up to date on the state of the technology. And I’m not arguing that robotics won’t play a role in making my job significantly different in the future, but just like very high level programmers , it will just add to the skills I already use. There has to be a physical interface with the digital world if something is being actually produced. Humans are great at that. While to cost of replacing programmers and other digital content creators is very low, there is almost no infrastructure required, building out a vast, complicated, energy and resource hungry fleet of Atlas style humanoid robots just doesn’t make economic sense. A 3d printed widget doesn’t just magically appear where it’s needed, perfectly formed, and install itself. Even the very best prints still need some level of human detailing and inspection. If anything, the pool of human labor for these tasks will be larger than ever as more digital / office workers are forced out of their desks. Marx said that basically Star Trek replicator level of production would be the end of capitalism. I’m saying we’re all in that turbulent period. I don’t think we’re ready.

look, this is really useful for us end users, there is no denying this. the problem is that if you have all the answers right there, there is no reason to go to the websites. meaning no revenue for those websites, meaning no reason to continue doing the websites, which means less up to date info for the search engines to use. Google has realised this, and why they have been slow walking the progress, slowly making the changes that they have been over the years. the reason that edge/bing can make this big leap is because they are far behind on the usages. for them there is little risk. The next few years are going to be interesting in terms of content, when the content being created is not being rewards. who knows, maybe it ends up being that the ai search engines pay sites when using their data. will be interesting to see how this plays out

I wonder if websites / indexing would change as the majority uses this interface to gain information. In that, websites function more as a raw repository that is easier to parse by AI and are not necessarily meant to be accessed as a resource directly by a human. This optimization might gain them an advantage to get priority by Bing.

@@MarkCastle Your concerns aren't misguided. Indeed, it looks like that the gatekeeping might get even stronger. SEO is already a thing and I can only imagine this new factor making the source content even farther away from the end user. Not that I am against it, just that centralization in itself necessitates proportional investment in responsibility, not to mention the inherent risk of having too much decision making power in the hands of a select few, which now have very real power to influence the views of entire world in a single sweep. I don't think that people won't bother to create content anymore because that'd negatively impact web usage but yes, redundancy might just take a hit. So the ones who do survive better have some content which is worth the server overhead; a good thing imho. But yes, I agree that it might just work against empowering those providers. This landscape is fast changing, a proper framework needs to be developed before things go south

So that shopping list question that Yusuf does around 32:30 is an example of a place where I hope this goes further than it does now. It's cool to get a list of ideas of stuff that I can make, but it's NOT helpful to get a shopping list that doesn't include amounts, prices, and where I can buy them. It may be a little useful as an intermediary step so I can weed out ingredients I don't like or ask for substitutes, but it's an extra step. And ultimately, I still have to find actual recipes myself and then do the actual planning (though, perhaps I can feed the problem in steps to the AI for help.. maybe.) What I really would want there is a meal plan with specific recipes with high ratings that COME FROM the internet not something that the language model puts together based on stuff online [this is hybrid search where I'm looking for links within a larger AI answer]. Then, based on THOSE recipes, I would need a specific amount of each ingredient (and probably it should know that I might want a little extra. This would be the AI being able to understand the recipes and parse the ingredients list and also able to know that multiple recipes call for onions, that the total requirement is 5 cups of finely diced onions throughout the week, which translates to needing *THIS* many medium sized onions, which I can get for the best value from this warehouse store in that volume or I can get at a slightly higher price along with all my other ingredients from the nearby supermarket in my area. So now we're looking at language processing, recognition, syntax analysis, and cross-referencing between multiple different databases and sources. THAT'S what I really want, right? That's the promise of AI and search coming together - being able to ask not just complex questions, but pose complex problems that require complicated processing and maybe a little bit of creativity. I don't expect that from New Bing 1.0, but I hope that we're working towards it (and far beyond).
