I have not left a comment on a KZbin video in well over two years, and thought I would never again- but I am using this as an opportunity to say that this is safely my favorite video on here now. The tranquility of the boat and the water and the guitar are all so wonderful.

Thank you Santiago Moriarty. I feel privileged to provide you with something which has broken your hiatus from commenting. Indeed, the boats, houseboats, spring water, run off water, all influenced my decision to have this as my location to record, and I am incredibly grateful to have connected with you through all the manor in which this became possible with a Nick Drake instrumental. Your words help me to feel that I did the right thing and my desire to change people emotionally for the better, has succeeded. All the best to you.

@@sam-lynch This comment made me nearly as happy as the video itself. I grew up just a few blocks from a marina, and saw boats and houseboats on the daily. In addition to that, I grew up listening to Nick Drake, so this whole video hit me with a wave of nostalgia I didn't expect. All best to you as well, and thanks for the kindness.

Quite excellent. Great backgound, too. Also, finishes the debate about whether Nick's stuff sounds better on a small body guitar. It doesn't matter, and Nick played a D28 on many occasions.

Thank you Izzyanez. I understand Nick Drake was adapting to life in London when this was written, however, the industrial sort of rust and bones of it all that Nick was experiencing did not eradicate the ‘pastoral’ feelings his music evokes, especially with his instrumental work. Everything still flowed and was cyclical. Thank you for listening.

I appreciate the support, thank you. You must listen to Nick Drake a lot to hear the strings play along, which is a wonderful thing. CGCFCE -Capo 2nd... I highly recommend you head over to this site; nickdraketabs.co.uk/ It is run by Chris Healy, a nice humble fellow, who has made his life’s work of transcription freely available.

One of my favorite Nick Drake pieces. Listened to many, many times so the strings were added in my head, excellent stuff. Would love to know where you filmed this if you're OK sharing that info.

Pleased you are well versed with Introduction. The arrangements beautifully compliment the guitar piece and it is hard to separate them. I keep locations private as a general rule, sorry about that.

Nice, i wish you would show how to do it.
@sam-lynch3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. This one is OK for me to show you and others how to play. If I were to do so, it may be a little while into the coming months, for I must decide where my channel is going. I'm supposed to be playing this with a violinist in the spring but it is uncertain. It requires only thumb and index finger to pick this piece, thus they must be quite long. In my opinion, this is how Nick played all of his songs except cluster chords. All the best.
@e21steverino9 ай бұрын
Sounds great, Sam! I just learned this piece but am finger picking each note individually. Do you happen to know if your technique is how Nick played it vs the individual finger picking? Again, great performance and backdrop 👍
@sam-lynch9 ай бұрын
That is a good question, Steve. I think Nick was picking most strings individually as you are, although he misses the 6th string 27 seconds into Introduction, as his thumb may have overshot its rightful position, indicative of playing two or more strings. The texture of the picking pattern must be from utilizing most fingers. In most photographs of Nick playing guitar he appears to be wrist bracing / anchoring on or around the bridge for accuracy.
@e21steverino9 ай бұрын
@@sam-lynch thank you Sam for the most excellent and thorough response. I didn't know about some of those things but I did know about the missed/absent note at the beginning. Appreciate your reply!

With just a work on the bass and that's will be perfect. A little more softly.

Your ear for this is something I certainly agree with. I was using a 60w 6th string which did not suit my picking style. Sadly, this was a struggle for me to be gentle with. Since then, I have managed to reach a better balance of custom strings with my 6th string is now a 56w nickle bronze to level out my attack on the bass. Thanks for your comment and listening. All the best. P. S I am hoping to record this again in the spring with a violinist...
