Hey, how has it been after a year? I'm 20 and about to go through with treatment after the lockdowns are lifted, I have all the symtoms of ALF so I would be a good candidate, did your maxilla change a lot?

Could the Alf bring the maxilla back down in a posteroinferior direction? Or is it just forward and upward movement? I’m asking because I used unnatural force against the roof of my mouth with my tongue and caused cranial distortion

ALF didn't work on two of my friends kids, with lower jaw underdevelopment (not growing forward enough). I think this is great non-invasive treatment for many other things but not jaw development :(

Here is what I do to help my patients with lower jaw retrusion. First, I develop the upper jaw with the basic ALF design. For the next step, I use different ALF appliances: the ALF Twin Block. I check my patients for possible tongue ties (short lingual frenum) or other tethered oral tissue (labial and buccal frenula). Orofacial myofunctional therapy is needed to help the patient to develop new habits during the process of advancing the mandible.

@@LjubaLemke I rest assured that ALF may offer jaw development for the maxilla. And you have mentioned here you will use the twin block, along with other therapy for advancing the mandible. How will you create lateral, side to side, mandible growth ? And how will it retain itself with no tongue

I fly from WA to PA every 6-8 weeks to see Dr.Gerald Smith. I've been wearing the ALF for a year and I'll start braces my next visit in 2 weeks. I'd like a second opinion about a concern I have. When I started with the ALF, I had just completed Invisalign (I had the Invisalign because I didn't know better and when I figured out I needed palatial expansion, I stopped Invisalign a month early to start ALF w/ Dr.Smith). During my ALF treatment, my upper front teeth went back to being crooked/ indented (this was expected hence I had just had Invisalign and wasn't wearing a retainer). The shifting of my 2 front teeth back to pre-Invisalign state (indented) cause the ALF wire to drop down from the base of the tooth (where tooth meets gum) to the middle of those teeth. Dr Smith said this was ok since my canines were shifting (I look like a vampire now) but I still wonder if the ALF was fitted before my teeth were straightened my Invisalign, this means that the wire would have maintained

+Miss Anthrope The way our cranium, jaws, and actually the whole body unravel during ALF treatment is quite intricate, with endless possibilities for variations. Therefore I regret that I am not able to answer your question. In general I am not able to comment on treatment modalities or progress of patients in ALF treatment elsewhere without having met them in person (which of course is rarely possible). +Bobbie Huskey The Elgiloy wire composition is shown in the video at minute 2:43. Nickel content is 15.5%. There are nickel free alternatives, for example "Noninium" and "Biosteel". None of the metal wires contain mercury.
