Introduction to Bipolar Disorder & Lithium Treatment

Im taking Lithium and quiatepine for more than 5 years now, and very satisfied with the result. It happened twice that I was in a premanic phase, but then I augmented the dose of quiatepine, and of course kept myself away fro excitement, and well I didnt have neither mania, nor hypomania, nor depression. Fingers crossed. Health is good.

lithium is like a warm summers day. It's a peaceful yet not seroquil antipsychotic type of numbness. I wouldn't associate sedation in any way to it. The other draw backs not mentioned are that there are blood tests that you have to get done frequently to have your lithium levels checked. Since it is a salt, you will need to make sure to force yourself to keep drinking throughout the day. If you dont keep the fluids up then you are at risk for lithium neurotoxcity.

Thank you for the concise and useful info that helps solidify my understanding of pharmacology. We attempt to learn all this before going into the clinical setting, but now that I've had the opportunity to interact with these patients, it's important to be able to go back and review this information because I now have experiences to connect it to.

In Kenya here,psychiatrists are daft, they cant titrate lithium, maybe as part of helpAID program , someone from overseas can show them.

Is diet the first, or any remedy? High fat low carb diet is very good for mental health care, in cases where its tried it replaces drug therapy very often, drugs are very hard on the body and in mental health usually just low dose anesthetics. Dr Georgia Eade.

I think I'm bipolar. At first I was denial, but now I have accepted it, especially since I had to leave work early today due to a severe anxiety attack. I was diagnosed 2 years ago when I was 35. I think I have bipolar I. I use to be depressed & suicidal but I solved that by taking Magnesium & Vitamin D3. But now I'm trying to conquer this mania & anxiety issue, I'm at my wits end! I tried HTP & L Tyrosine but it made it 10x worse. So I'm going try Lithium Orate, if that doesn't help I'm going end up losing my job & become homeless. Prescription medication makes me feel worse

JayoJay yes I just started doing Intermittent Fasting as of 2 weeks. Starting next week I'll be doing the Keto diet. I believe that majority of my problems stem from an unhealthy diet, but that's about change. I will start eating organic foods, healthy fats, & low carbs from now on. No more processed foods for me!

In India we get Brooke bond red label tea. It has five herbs. One of them is Ashwagandha. Try to drink this tea two times a day. Add Jaggery. Not sugar. It has helped me.

Hi I have a problem I suspended my period for 4 days and already now that me under again. I have a lot dizziness throw up Wednesday and today also I really have a headache and I'm very anxious Thursday 30mg take lithium and flunked on Saturday (a week later) it was then when I was down, I was under until Tuesday. but I feel very bad that I also take prozac and olanzapine what do i do?

Google “Pineal Gland and fluoride”. Also, apparently Prozac has fluoride in it. I drink filtered clean water and I do not use fluoridated toothpaste.

He is yawning, and sniffling. Think he is overdoing himself? Not enough rest? Usually it shows that people need more Oxygen. There is much to cover and he must rush through it. This is sad that such young people must have things like this when they should be at t he happiest time of their lives. So many things to do, and maybe trying to bring up a family, and just not ready , as of not being able to always being more predictable and balanced in their lives. People often do not understand them and how to relate to bipolar people. Never know when you may upset them and have them turn on you.

Wondered if, as it shows that males are more apt to be suicidal, would a gay person ( woman thinking she is male) have the same statistics in such bipolar/depressive feelings , causing them to be suicidal too?

Can I add L-Tyrosine with my 1,200 mg of Lithium Carbonate? And maybe get an Amino Acid Complex and/or Tryptophan so well. I would also like to add to my diet, Brewer's Yeast. Any comments??

I was on Lithium.back in 4/1986 (I was 18 @ the time; my DOB: 7/20/1967). I developed Psoriasis (induced by Lithium & not genetically despite having 2 distant relatives--both from my mom's side of the family--having Psoriasis) along w/constant loss of energy (also Lithium-induced). Sorry but "treatment" does NOT have 2 b in the form of medication RE: mental health conditions (including Bipolar Disorder). Furthermore l; psych meds (not Bipolar Disorder itself) increase fatalities.

"Bipolar 1 may have depression". My understanding is that people with Bipolar 1 will suffer from mania/ hypomania and depression.

technically a depressive episode isnt REQUIRED for a bipolar 1 diagnosis, but around 99% of bipolar 1 patients will experience depression. for a bipolar 1 diagnosis, all you need is a single episode of full-blown mania. with bipolar 2, you NEED a depressive episode AND a hypomanic episode for dagnosis.

Li itself is not a salt dude. It's a metal lol. Lithium orotate: no side effects. It' also not a drug, it's a nutrient. It's in food & water. Anything in high enough doses is toxic, duh. People who write these things call themselves intelligent and professional. SMH.
