You don't need to multiply the O=O bond by two because for 5 moles of oxygen, you are breaking 5 moles of O=O bonds. With CO2, breaking 1 mole of bonds in CO2 requires breaking two moles of C=O bonds (as there are two C=O bonds per CO2 molecule). The same holds for water, with 1 mole of water containing 2 moles of H-O bonds.

Why is it that 5 was not multiplied to get 10 But you multiplied 3 times 2 to get 6 and 4 times 2 to get 8? I am confused on that part. Phillip Cook

In calculating bond enthalpy, a double bond will be considered the same value as a single bond.This is seen as he counts the C-O bond for 3CO2 as not 3*4 but 3*2.
