I got it upside down so I recap here: You used 1707kJ to cut bonds. Cutting bonds is less stable with higher potential, requires energy to maintain. And got 1998kJ from making bonds. Making bonds is more stable, releases energy.

Thank you nice explanation. I may add a few things. bond breaking requires energy because in bound state,total mass of bound atoms are actually lower than total of mass when they are free. so we need to give energy and they take this energy and convert to their mass. Einstein's formula.. I think there are very deep relations down there but everything is nice

btw why aren't the C-H bonds in reactants taken into account?
@garimaagarwal985
@garimaagarwal985 3 жыл бұрын
The C-H bonds in the reactant are not broken and retained in the product. So even if you consider the bond dissociation enthalpy in reactant, you will have to consider bond formation enthalpy in product and being opposite in nature these would just cancel out.

Why is the bond enthalpy for triple C-C bond lower than 3 C-C bonds? Shouldn't it be even easier to sever the last bond than the 1st and second of the 3, since the Cs would be closer together when triple bonded?

Thank you, although I have to say this video has a lot of mistakes in the narration, several times the voice says something that is not correct (like in time 8:20 is not the bonds that are broken but the ones that are formed...) maybe you don't care but if this comment has any help for you to get better videos in the future it would achieved its purpose.

why is energy released when a bond is formed? I can't conceptualize it.
@multimeme5935

because the bonded molecules are now in lower energy state, molecules are bonded to do that (to minimize their energy and become stable).

Incorrect: I kept getting the wrong answers and its because you are suppose to add the bonds formed then subtract it from the bonds broken instead of subtracting the bonds made.
