Hello, I would like to enamel an oil tin barrel. Do you have any ideas on how I can do this and do you think it will be helpful for my use of this barrel? I char wood into charcoal to make tierra preta. Usually the used barrel oxidizes very quickly. So this is supposed to protect the surface of the barrel - I don't know if that's practical and it won't be too heavy.

I have only seen large cast iron pieces (sinks and bathtubs) enameled in a large facility so I'm not sure if that is a good solution for your problem. Maybe try switching to large stainless steel container that won't oxidize as much? Let me know if that helps and if there is anything else I could help with!

So is this only for copper? I was trying to find information about enamel for cast iron.. Amazon keeps trying to give me acrylic paint and “klyr-fire” which I’m assuming is also not what I am looking for

These particular enamels will also work on fine silver. Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with enameling cast iron. Amazon is definitely wrong. I would suggest you reach out to a foundry that also enamels (like Kohler) and see what information they can share. If you find out anything useful or interesting, definitely let me know! Good luck!

Can this be done on other materials other than copper?

This enamel works on non-alloy metals like copper and fine silver.

Do you wash your transparent enamels before using ?
@JamesThurman2 ай бұрын
Typically yes but we made this video for complete beginners so we didn't want to confuse them. We will be making more enameling videos that go into more detail. Thanks for asking!

trying to get back into enameling after a long break...needed a refresher at the basic. Silly and annoying at first but really easy to follow ad answered my question of where to start. I use to do cloissonne but because its been so long i;m going back to the beggining...

Glad that we could be of help! Definitely share what you create once you get working again. We took this approach since the video is used by our beginning undergraduate students and we wanted to get them interested in it all...
